Ok I respect the technical acumen of everyone here, so here's my problem.

I upgraded my laptop to Vista Ultimate from XP. I purchased 7 and will install that when it's released.

I'm having the Blizzard Downloader problem that is mentioned in many places on the WoW Forums and the Internet in general. The difference is I'm doing everything mentioned (I think) and still can't get the downloader to work.

I've forwarded my ports. I've opened up Windows Firewall and Windows Defender. Yesterday I was home, but today I'm traveling for work and using hotel internet, and I still can't get anything to work.

Did anyone find anywhere on the Net a comprehensive guide to fix this type of problem?

Thank you.

What's the problem your having? You mentioned it's documented elsewhere, but there are tons of issues documented. So what, specifically are you having problems with? Make sure you disable UAC, or run everything as Admin.

For Vista, I'd highly recommend having wow installed to:
C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft

I'd run wow on an adminstrator account, which just lets you run programs of your choice as an administrator.
Right click on wow.exe, go into properties, choose the Compatibility tab, at the bottom under Priviledge level tick Run this program as an administrator.

Nova and Ualaa,

Thanks for the replies.

My User Account was created as Administrator. It's the only Account on the computer.

Yes I turned User Account Control as soon as I installed Vista and before loading WoW.

I've tried the right-click on wow.exe and I can't check the box for Privilege, probably cause I'm already logged in as Administrator.

I haven't moved wow to the Users\Public\Games folder you mentioned.

I found this discussion of the problem and implemented the suggested solutions, but it hasn't worked so far. it talks about Port Forwarding on your router. I use an Apple Airport Extreme and while that seems to have it's own WoW issues, I didn't have any problems running WoW using that router and my same laptop when I was using Windows XP.

Thank you to anyone with any suggestions.
