My first just showcase of what 4 rangers at low level are like (they are 11-16 or so in the video) and what fun and how smooth it can be.

You will notice that I mark every target, and I do that on my main with the tilde key and then my alts target the skull target with the tilde as well.

IN effect, Aion has the capability of using any main you like by just using 4 different spammable keys to do marking on one and picking targets with the other.

Also, when you use an ability on a mob, if you are out of range, your toon will automatically run into range and shoot / melee. This is extremely important for melee classes as they will be much easier to box than in WoW for the most part. You will see my 3 alts never following me really, always just running independently to the next mob with or without myself, which can be extremely handy in PvP, if you are stunned, or blinded your alts never stop they just destroy =)

it's not as smooth as WoW yet, as there are no [target=XXXX] commands for macros, and the macro system is still in it's infancy, but so far, I am having a blast in Aion and I recommend it to anyone who has lost the taste for WoW, or just wants to try something different.

I would recommend a healer class, I find it very difficult staying alive a lot of the time, and my gear isn't great, but for PvE it is not like WoW where you can destroy mobs 5 lvls higher than you in one shot, a level in Aion really is a big gap and sometimes one add can spell a storm of cool-downs and possible death without any heals available.

Anyway, not much to "enjoy" about the video, nothing special but still kind of fun to see more about it =)

Been wondering what its like in relation to WoW. What is there as far as PvE? Questing like wow? Is there instance/raids? And what is the party size?

4 rangers? isn't all that ammo going to cost an arm and a leg at high levels?

Party size is 6

There is a lot of questing - There are lots of raids to capture fortresses and do the bosses but I can't really answer from experience about that as it starts around level 25 and I'm 22x2 (+11x2 on alt team)

This looks interresting.

What kind of setup do you use? (program, how many computers, and such)

It didn't seem like gold was as easy to farm in Aion as in WoW.

gameguard is gone (though it may come back) - you should keep with the other aion threads ;-) (see Aion sub forum) - the melee animation is a lot more fun (you can check my videos for instance)

I am just on 2 computers, Aion isn't really the resource hog I thought it was, and I am having no problems running 2x AIon and watching a movie, in fact I was watching a 720p movie and 2 Aions on my old computer and 2 Aions + Movie Maker while rendering and editing with no problems.

yeah and animation at lvl 3 in WoW is amazing too :P

remember, level 11 is like level 3, its not impressive yet, there are no chain skills until lvl 16 for a ranger and nothing really cool looking for a while, please don't make snap judgments based on a video not intended to showcase the games cool looking moves, because that was not it, and Aion has the coolest animations at higher levels.

Abyss raids slow my AION performance pretty dramatically. But then I keep everything at high.

Defintion of Abyss Raid:
MANY RED DOTS ON MINIMAP
MANY BLUE DOTS ON MINIMAP
LOTS OF NAMETAGS!

...seriously, those raid groups get HUGE.

yeah, this may require some figuring out, but since I am in Korea my playtime is fairly odd and as in WoW I am likely to encounter less of the mania than if I were playing at a regular time.

same as Winterlag, which cleared up for me when I got here, 4am not nearly as many are playing, while still offering good PvP. We'll see =)

I like the way the characters are not all stacked on top of each other as they move around; I find that spoils the atmosphere a little.

Looking good :)

ok fair enough i dont want to be too fast to judge, but i will know right away soon as i pick up the game if i like it or not, nearly every game i cant stand playing is becuase i dont like the characters mass within the enviorment, its hard to explain, but like war online it was far to clunky when moveing arround.

will prob pick this game up later in the week and ill give it ago

I totally agree, I judge a book by its cover and stoppe dplaying Guild Wars, LOTRO and SWG I didn't even try after watching movies of the game.

So far, I get none of that from Aion, this is truly one of the most specatular games I have seen.

I don't want to build it up here, as your expectations rise, so does your wonder fall when you see it. I want you to form your own opinions. Try it out, go watch some of the videos of people that are lvl 50 or lvl 25 even, the skills look really fantastic, and everytime you turn a corner in certain spots there is something amazing on the horizon. There is a lvling spot in Asmodea side that looks a BIT liek zangarmarsh, but instead of every mushroom looking the same, all straight and tree like, they are falling over, in dissaray, cut down, built into houses etc, it's really quite fascinating.

I like Aion. I really do. It has it's flaws, but I think it can live past those, and I hope the developers work on them. I don't really like boxing it, but that may have more to do with my personal tastes than any flaw of the game. It just didn't feel smooth to me. I'll keep the second account because I'm a boxer and I can't play a game if I only have one account.

I got my ranger up to 20, but got a little frustrated with the class. It has some really fun abilities, but it just felt like I was putting in twice the work to get half the output of other classes. Last night I switched to two different mages, one going Sorcerer, the other Spiritmaster (Mage and Lock) and am really enjoying the change. I've got the SM up to 14 already and even though it is the bastard class of the mages, it didn't feel as disjointed as the Ranger did.

When I say bastard class, the thing that Aion does is start you out with 4 archtype classes: Warrior, Priest, Scout, Mage. When you hit level 9.99 you had to decide which of the two possible real classes you want to become. Warrios can be Templars or Gladiators; Priest can be Clerics or Chanters; Scouts -> Assasins/Ranger; Mage -> Sorcerer/Spirit Master.

The trick is that one of the two classes will be a significantly different playing style from the first 10 levels you have played. Rangers are melee for the first 10 levels and then suddenly get a bow and slowly getting ranged skills, but assasins stay melee and just add more skills to the ones they've been using since they created the character.

When you make the decision, you really don't have a feel for what your new class will play like, so it's rather daunting. Aside from issues I have with the Ranger class, the playstyle change was significant enough to make the next few levels after 10 feel very gimped. It's noticeable in Spirit Master, but the class is just much more powerful so it doesn't make the transition a deal breaker. I haven't played my Templar or Cleric much past 10, so I can't comment on any changes there.

Any way, enough babbling. It's a good game. I enjoy it and hope it sticks around long enough to see how end game raiding plays out. I'll pimp Moorea's video as well since he has done a good job with it and it's another way for people to see how the game plays.

One last thing. It succeeded where Age of Conan failed. It makes combat dynamic. While you will have rotations of spells, there is a more reactive nature to things and you can't just mindlessly press 1, 2, 3, 4 and expect everything to melt. They get into chained moves before you even leave the baby land with most starting at level 5. Combat really is more fun in this game.

I need sleep.
