I have been leveling my 5 shaman team and now that i am in the outlands I want to solidify the pve team and bring in a tank.

I can gift levels so i could have a level 60 pally or a 60 druid or start a DK.

I was thinking either the DK or druid since i already have a 80 pally on my first team. Anyone with some insight which would be better?

You can't gift levels above level 59, so that means max you can get from gifting is level 60.

Do the druid now and level a DK later. Starting at lvl 55 is too nice.. Don't waste gifted levels there. Gift those levels to the druid and that way you have some variety.

Bear, but I'm a bit partial.

I have a similar question.

I just started boxing and I have a 71 Druid doing the Instance Rushing while I have RAF exp. I was curious as to peoples opinion on whether a Druid is a decent Tank for Boxing Heroics/Instance grinding at 60-80.

Or if its would be a better strategy to get a Paladin or DK up to do the tanking?

All 3 are extremely viable. It's really going to come down to your personal preference. I'm partial to bears because I've played one for ~ 2.5 years.

You can level to 1.999 adn then gift levels to 60.999, travel to outlands and get the explore XP and be 61.

Personally I'd go with a pally tank, by far the easiest to maintain for multiboxing.

Ok so if i decide to do DK Frost spec

What would be a good tanking macro? I have the 96969 on my pally and it works awesome with button mashing just can not seem to find one on these forums using the search.

Or if i decide to use a druid same question tanking macro?

Thanks in advance

My frost DK I have set up for AOE tanking. D&D to start the pull, then Icy Touch > Plague Strike>Pestilence>Horn of winter>Frost Strike>Howling Blast> Pestilence>Obliterate>Frost Strike>Frost Strike>Howling Blast>Blood boil

Or there abouts-ish, just repeating the sequence.

For DK Frost rotations I use /click to handle my two macros. BTW, I use bartender4 so that is why you see BT4 in the button names. Each one of my click macros are eight buttons long on bars that have 12 spaces. The extra slots are for changing rotations on the fly. The first bar is for AOE rotation and the second is for single target tanking.

ALL my spells that are not instant are macro's that are cast sequence set to "reset=15/target" where I'm using both timer and an attempt to reset when target changes.

ALL strikes are setup with "/cast !runestrike" at the end of each macro. This was originally setup for blood tank but I found that I didn't need to change it with frost. Also, depending on your shaman spec you can spec your

Macro 1 is for AOE:

/click BT4Button49
/click BT4Button50
/click BT4Button51
/click BT4Button52
/click BT4Button53
/click BT4Button54
/click BT4Button55
/click BT4Button56

Macro 2 is for Single Boss:

/click BT4Button61
/click BT4Button62
/click BT4Button63
/click BT4Button64
/click BT4Button65
/click BT4Button66
/click BT4Button67
/click BT4Button68

The rotation that is applied by my macros is this:

Single Boss - IT-HB-BS-BS-OB OB-OB-Dump-Dump (dump is DC for me)
Multi Target - DnD(manually)-IT-PS-BTap-Pest then "next target" - HB/Pest/BloodBoil

The next target is really this macro: /targetenemy

I have the number one key set to HoWinter and then 2 set to HB for a fast Multitarget start, or for singles I just skip 2 and hit 3 that has DCam, so since the number 4 key is my multi and my 5 key is single boss rotations, I just try to get in as many DCam as I can and hit the spam key every half second, depending on what the situation is for tanking.

I hope that made since!

Go with DK and save the gift levels for a tauren pally or goblin whatever.

When my accounts become unliked in Nov does that mean i have to use the gift levels before that or will they carry forward until expac sometime next year?

Thanks for the macro help will give it a try

Unless this has changed recently, you lose your gifting levels when your RAF ends. So use them before you lose them.[

Well as for a new tank i would go pally for a few reasons
1. heals/loh.
2 more gear options then a DK (aka healing gear or ret gear for os).
3. more armor with the use of shields and block takes less dmg
4. Pally buffs
5. Crusader Aura faster group speed for getting around

Now dont take me wrong I have a dk and will use him at sometime in my group as a tank but i enjoy the pally alot enough to by a Traveling Tundra Mammoth for it.

hell i use my warrior. Druids are really similar but more health, more dps, more agro, and more mitigation. I would think these would make them an excellent choice. My warrior does a good job too.

I'm loving my pally :) but my guess is that whoever you choose will work for you. its more about working the class in with your team.

Tauren Pally? Is that going to be in the xpac!?!

Yes, tauren pallies in the expac. I will definitely be changing from my BE unless the price is crazy.

Tank selection is jacked... Look at my sig, I have 4 tank choices! Argh!

Im wondering if pally tanks are in for a serious nerfing or if people are just QQing about them being better when its not really a huge deal.

As a boxer, a pally is very easy to play well with a simple 96969 macro.
The other tanks are all viable, just a bit harder to box.

You mentioned you already have a pally tank on the 1st team, and want something different.
I'd personally go with a bear, but a death knight or warrior are both strong choices.
I wouldn't grant levels to the DK though, starting at 55th.. probably 57th on leaving the starting area...
And hit Outland at 58th... they don't need the boost. I'd grant the levels to another toon.

I was going to pick a paladin when starting my 5 man group(shaman) but I decided to try out a Warrior and it has been very fun. Warriors have a pile of fun options and melee combat is always interesting. I've played paladins till 60 in a five man and they weren't that interesting or as much fun for me. Yes every other tanking class is better than a warrior in every case, but not radically better.

I think people stay away from warriors partly because of their complexity. You can just mash a button and be a good warrior tank. Being able to fine tune my rotations to the fight is very nice. Maybe Bliz will make warriors more viable as tanks one day?

Ops! I mean:

You can NOT just mash a button and be a good warrior tank.

I have a few buttons for my warrior tank, but it's mostly just mashing the "everybody do something" button. My DK and pally both have a similar number of buttons. I miss the pally buffs when I'm playing my warrior, but they feel equally as effective (mid-level Northrend, 74-76). Tanking is tanking. :)

Druid if You already have a pally.

Paladin or Druid imo. Both bring group buffs and utility. Both can dual-spec to other interesting roles.
