I am new here, and excited to see a dedicated forum to dual and multi-boxing. I am currently dual-locking with refer a friend, and about to hit level 16. I just got HotKeyNet which I found here, and am already adapting it for my own use and play. I played before, mostly mono-logging, but never hit 50 with any toon. Tanaris solo was enough to make me quit for about a year! I have tried every class and race, and have many now, my highest current active is a Draenai Shaman. No one char makes WOW worth it to me. But two at once is!
Basically, I prefer playing units, but I have no interest in what I call flocking them unless in a RTS - i.e. making them identical and running more of less two or more instances of the same character in terms of powers, strategy, and gear. I see lots of vids of this, and have no beef with the choice to do this, just not my purpose in being here. I am actually levelling lots of toons that run in pairs, with the rule that I can only dual-log people who are at the same inn, or were in a party together last. A strange continuity that I kinda like. It is kinda like my tribute to The Inn of the Last Home in Dragonlance. I am sort of solo - RP'ing, in a method more like a game called Ars Magica that like D&D. In Ars Magica you played a Magus, and all his companions and hirelings. It was fantastic for my pen and paper days. I also preferred RTS, or Final Fantasy style RPGs to games with a single real-time focus of play. So mono-logging doesn't really cut it for me. This is just the natural extension of playing a pet class.
Anyways - Can anyone out there advise me how to spec a pair of Warlocks. So FAR:
Toon1
Improved Corruption 2/5
Demonic Embrace 2/3
Fel Synergy 2/2
Toon2
Improved Corruption 3/5
3 unspent
Though I am on a PVE server, I always find myself RPing a bit as I grind or level. It is how my mind works, I guess, after playing SMT, Final Fantasy, and all kinds of console games that leave you immersed in story and killing mobs while running in circles.
Toon 1 is played with a Voidwalker and prefers to be out front. He craves the full transformation into a demon, and the raw power of it. He wants a sword right now, but knows it is not really his real desire, talons of rage and fel energy. His VW is in fact his shadow aspect, the lineback he can never be without the powers he pursues at any cost. But still, he has found a sword, holding it makes him feel powerful, and he can almost see himself learning to use it soon. But the real pursuit for him is to embody the powers he is learning to control, and he feels deep inside that CAN be done! So, he grips his wand his brother got him, pretends to use it occasionally, but nothing feels as good as imagining HIS hands pummeling the victim of his void walker. Still, he has heard there might be even other demons to subdue and learn from. Style - Demo/Destruct Pet-Lock. DPS. VW will only be replaced by bigger and badder... until HE is the bigger and badder.
Toon 2 is played with a Imp and wears more armor and favors being a wand slinging potshotter in the back. He tends to curse, and shoot - savoring the energy inside of himself and trying to appear more reserved, if only to remain inconspicuous, and mildly amused as everything decays around him because he wills it so. He reluctantly takes the lead sometimes when someone sends him and his brother on a quest to collect odds and ends - or else his brother Toon1 will loot all the bodies that fall at their feet and sell it for liquor and steel. He is cautious, and has an obsession newfound with the way a soul's energy can be coalesced into a shard for amazing powers. Sort of like the crystal on the wand he uses, but... different. He is not a materialist, but he finds matter fascinating as an anology; and they are so shiny... on the inside! He likes to make and break, but is more driven by irrelevant curiosity and a mild obsession with magical items. He has not even tried to summon a voidwalker - and wished he could have better inspected the choker he found in Elwynn Forest before giving it back. He also keeps looking at his brother's sword sure he could, with time actually extract the essence that makes it more than ordinary steel. The he licks his lips and rocks on his heels at the thought of what he could do with that power! He also keeps his brother's hunger for violence in check, and his greed, and he holds their coin so it doesn't all get spent on weapons and armor they won't even be able to move in. Style - Affliction/Demo Dot-Lock. Drain Tank. Will prolly go Succubus.
So a strict logician might frown at my elaboration - but whatever. It doesn't limit my choices, it adapts to them. It is a by-product of my time playing and my experience reading and writing. (and yes I have a rather full life; with WOW only on the side that tends to limit how high my level can get, so I guess I subconsciously compensate! Despite all this, my background is in data architecture, and I would love to see or start a theory on how "the best" specs don't work as well when two of them are being used, simultaneously. What specs only work well for duals, or other multis? (My personal main interest is duals for now,. but I have four licensed accounts, two inactive)
Anyways, Toon1 is going to start skinning and mining. The idea of these visceral taking of things is conducive to his nature.
While Toon2 might start Tailoring and Enchanting, as they perfectly fit him, though perhaps Jewel crafting?
What I don't know is how to spec them as a pair. I will respec if I need to but they are ending up with little downtime already and I want that to scale right as they level. Anyone have an idea of where to put those three points? Anyone do any adjustments to theory craft for duals?
Thanks for tolerating my longish first post! Hope to hear from some people with ideas!
