View Full Version : [WoW] Use the curse client to manage multiple WoW addon installs? Not for long...

I've just installed the beta of new Curse Client (v4). It's not something I will be using when it comes out if it stays in its current state.
It does not let you manage all your games. If you are a dual boxer with two different installs on the same computer, you can no longer manage each one individually. The curse client scans for your games and automatically adds them. Problem is it only adds one WoW install.
If you like the curse client and want to manage multiple WoWs, please help by voting on this ticket:

Oh, the link to the beta of the new curse client.

Thanks,
Jafula!
Edit: Ofc, if you can get the client to work for multiple installs, I'd love to know how.
They actually manage to make it even worse with every update, don't they?

I still use Wow Matrix. works pretty good for me. some updates take a while to get propegated to somewhere where WM can find it, curse blocked it from happening automatically a while ago. Hell it even successfully updated Jamba for me after 3.0 :)

Sheesh, Jamba was never officially released by me to WoWMatrix. Leechers. At least if you downloaded it from my homepage you have a chance of seeing the 'in your face' donate button. :p Ofc, now I plan to release Jamba as open source and on curse as well so all my crying is a bit moot . (Although if the curse client is going to be sub-optimal I might have seconds thoughts).
Whats more important, is that you found a way to get Jamba easily. More Jamba to the people. Mmmm, need more coffee.

I've symlinked my different wows including the interface folder.
So I download the add ons in to the main wow folder.
Just need to configure what addons you want on each character, but not a big deal.

Ack not curse! wowinterface ftw hehe. Hate going to that site it seems so unorganized to me. I have about 2 addons there (3 if you decide to put jamba on there) never stay current with those add ons though..
As for wowmatrix  can't stand leechers.

Hmmm, I can probably put Jamba on WoW Interface as well. Will have a look and see if I can do that.
Edit: Anyway, we're supposed to be voting to get them to change the curse client!

this is what i did also. sometimes the client automatically adds one of my slaves for some reason, so i just go into the 'manage games' tab and delete the slaves. then update the main folder only. the client kept crashing when i'd install new addons when it had the slave's folders targeted also, so i just keep the main on there by itself.

If you select "Enabled: No, ignore the addons for this game" got all the copies of wow that are symlinked it works fine (it doesnt try updating all 10 copies of wow). So I have c:/wow/wow1 managed and the 9 others i had to select 'no ignore...' for them (once curse found them) Works perfectly fine for me, and the crashing was likely due to the multiple scans it was doing at the same time.

Jamba to the PEOPLE! I would love to see Jamba and JambaDev on Curse.
I am a Curse Premium Member and that and Carbonite are the only things I have to go and find manually. Not overly caring would be awesome tho.
If they break V4 to not support multiple installs I will most likely be requesting a refund.

Curse Client has not worked for me since I went to Vista. I would gladly use something else if there was something that worked. WoWInterface is ok, that is where Tour Guide is hosted.
I also understand why Curse blocked WoWMatrix, Cost them hits which means money.
If there was a good client, people would fly away from Curse.

That sounds like teh suxxor. However, my slave wow's only have jamba installed, no other addons needed at this point, so it's not a big deal for me to manually install one addon to each of the slaves' folders.
Maybe I'll symlink the interface folder too though and just configure the toons on the slave accounts to only have jamba enabled...I have enough other bits of the wow folder symlinked just to fit 3 wow's on my 32gb SSD...

The whole wowmatrix thing is pretty sad because it is, by far, the best of these types of utilities that I've been able to find. I don't blame curse for not wanting to be a bandwidth bitch for wowmatrix, but I do wish these two groups could put all this crap aside and figure something out. Not likely to happen, though, since curse has their own client and wants to promote it.
I'm a bit surprised though how many mods still aren't available somewhere besides curse (so that wowmatrix can't get them). I would think most mod authors would want it available in the most places possible, unless curse is kicking back some cash or something?

I just have one directory per computer, and just download from curse to my main computer then copy the interface folder to the other 5 computers (after I do stuffs to the files so each guy get copied properly). So no effect to me ...

My understanding is that people don't want WoWMatrix to have it because not only does it bandwidth whore from other sites, it circumvents their potential to make money, not just Curse's via "Donate" buttons}. There was also a long-standing issue where WoWMatrix would grab mods from anywhere, not just where authors put them.
Either way, I don't use autoinstallers. I'd rather do it manually so I can run my own scans before installing crap.

WoWInterface has a Beta Installer started called Minion. Works with any author who will add tags for it in the TOC file. Slow going right now, but they have a much better attitude than Curse
I already install adblock plus so I dont' have to deal with annoying advertisements all over the net.
you may do that but not everyone does. i think one of the issues here is that people who dont ever click ads assume everyone is that way. but some people must click them or else no one would pay to have them. and taking a file that is supposed to be supported by the ad views from a site without giving that opportunity does have the potential to hurt them. im not a scholar on the way ads work but im also not so narrow minded as to not be able to see how this could possibly be a problem.
- who gives a shit if we use a web browser to hit the "download" button, or the WoW Matrix addon? The same amount of bandwidth is used when a person downloads an addon.
this is true but in the first scenario the person is potentially exposed to the intended method of reimbursal. in the second scenario there is no such exposure.
but like i say about everything i could be totally wrong and if thats the case then i would really like to be enlightened :)
also go sign the petition lets not hijack this thing totally.
and for the record symlink ftw. update one folder and youre golden. you dont even have to symlink any other folders but the addons one. its very convenient.

Thanks to all those who voted. The curse client has been updated to allow for multiple WoW installs. Cheers also to the folks at Curse for listening and making it happen.

I'm glad they've fixed it, but this just doesn't affect me.
I have two installations, sure, but the addons directory is symlinked from drone to main, and I just disable the mods I'm not interested in using on the drones.
