View Full Version : How did you gear up for heroics??

I just wiped 6 times on the trash of heroic Gundrak. The druid I'm using (Arborviate in the guild) dies mega fast, even with spamming HW with ES on him. He loses aggro all the time. This is supposed to be the easy heroic????
Please, seriously, I want to know what people did to get gear to run heroics? Normal mode Gundrak was a snore fest.
My set up is
button 1 - swipe
button 2 - drood macro + LB
button 3 - HW (from my resto shammy)
button 4 - LHW
button 5 - riptide
button 6 - ES
I have FF and Demo Roar as clicks which I open with. I basically spam 1, 2, and 3.
1 - What heroic did you run first?
2 - How did you get the gear to run that heroic?
I'm so damn mad right now.
Thanks in advance.

Perhaps you could run with a defense capped tank, as that made almost all the heroics easy for my group. Unfortunately i've never ran with a druid tank so cant assist with a tanking macro for your bear. Give it a whirl...:)

It was my tank. I ran with a friend who was geared (and I didn't control :P). Cleared Gundrak heroic with only 2 wipes on the 2nd boss - cause I clumped the shaman up like a noob two times.
UGH. Guess that means I am gonna have to run my drood through stuff till he gets gear. Oh well, at least I know these 4 can do it.

With the right talents spent feral tank druids are uncrittable at 80. Was your druid bear spec?
How much hp does the tank have?
Did you use survival instincts, barkskin and frenzied regen to help out?
Did you put earthshield on the tank and keep refreshing it?

The first heroic I ended up clearing was UP, but that was on my caster group who is somewhat better geared than my melee group, and I'd farmed 2 wings of naxx 10-boxxing. UP pinnacle sucks, btw. I'd suggest starting off with Utgarde Keep.
As far as suggestions on gearing up goes, you should really be looking at filling as many slots as you can with blue/purple ilvl 187-200 , Most slots, this can be achieved via the AH, although it can get a bit pricey.
Also, keep in mind, you really have to break in to Heroics before farming them starts coming naturally. And the repair bills are going to suck for a while. I'd say stick with UK and Draktharon, as they are both easy instances on heroic (except Novos in Drak.), they just don't have the speed and number of badges of Gundrak.

Can you link the armory for your team members? You shouldnt be having so many problems with a feral tank if reasonably geared (blues +craftable epics) and is spec'd right...

That's the druid tank I ran heroics with on my druids. The other druid Don's in Forseti Hel are my casters. I have to do some decent healing with 'em but it isn't that bad. The snake pulls by sladran are different depending on who you have in your group. For shammy groups, ignore the poison spitters as cleansing totem nerfs them into stupidity. The constrictors put a bleed on the tank that hurts bad if they gang up, though. Conversely, if you have a group that can't purge poison, I'd kill the spitters first.
Sladran was stupid easy on my shammy group even when starting out with most of the crappy blue PVP set plus the revenant's 2 pieces. He's still difficult on my druid team as all the snake adds are so hard to control.
Honestly, I think DtK is easier than Gundrak due to the general lack of poison and constant AoE. If you can get past the DPS gear check of the first boss, the rest is a matter of having enough mana. Novos is stupidly easy once you start standing on the wall next to him. Hardly any adds will come at you there. Then just move out of blizzard and AoE heal once and continue DPS.

about gearing, I ran few normal instances while leveling, than socketed all my gear with green wotlk gems(all def for pally :p), didnt do much for shamans....and away i went, yes it hurt, having 20k hp tank wasn't great, or 700-1k spl damage shamans....but man was that fun doing those heroics, I didn't have much boe gear since for first month of this expansion prices were astronomical.
Now its basically "Yawnn another heroic".
ps. before someone says take off some gear to make it harder.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm returning to announce I've got heroic Gundrak and UK down. Might try and add a 3rd or 4th to the mix to start grinding badges.
Next question - where do you get your back, feet, shoulders, weapon, and shield?
For my tank I use the Argent Tourney weapon and the heroic badge shield. The rest were blues (as suggested) from normal dungeons. For my shaman, I will get the legs, hands, head, chest, neck, and waist from Crusader turn ins.
What is suggested for the back, feet, shoulders, and weapon (assuming the protective barrier is best for ele/resto shield Protective Barricade of the Light)
Also, when you were able to farm Gundrak and UK, what did you start on next?
This is the best community I've ever been a part of on the internet. Thanks again.

Do Draktheron or AN. I actually like AN now, its extremely fast, although last boss might give you trouble. Oh and Nexus is easy, its just a pain in the ass to fly all the way over there.

When I initially got my guys 80 what I did was not try and do complete instances, just do the bosses I was capable of doing. There's no shame in leaving an instance incomplete.
Slowly but surely you'll build up badges... next thing you know you'll have 5+ instances on farm. Currently I don't have enough time in the evening to do all the instances I have on farm.

I geared my guys by pugging Naxx raids... individually. Also my guild is a boxing friendly raiding guild, so I would regularly 2 or 3 box toons in our naxx 10 runs, and got geared fairly quickly. I also ran a lot of regular 80 5 mans, and got some craftable epics for my tank. Now, even my DPS have more than 20k HP, fully buffed, My shaman is in mostly pvp gear and has like 23k hp. Tank is nearly 40k hp buffed. Heroic HoL isnt too bad either, except the last 2 bosses, Ionar is a major PITA, an Loken can be tough if you dont have lots of AoE healing.
Just farm the ones you know you can kill every day, and start getting badge gear upgrades. The T8 Helm and Chest are very good quality, much better than any heroic drops, by far, and you can get them all at once. Also, try to do the regular daily, and the heroic daily, more badges, rep and gold. The badges from the heroic daily get you even better rewards, so definately save up on those, maybe even hold off for an upgraded item in a slot that is covered by the Triumph badges.

I've been using my level 80 main team to run my bear tank through ToC since level 75, he's going to have a nice set when he gets to 80. I suggest you stick with instances you think are easy. for me Culling of Strat and Draktharon have to be the easiest.... although Gundrak would be on my list. I sure hated Gundrak when I was just starting out though.

A bit of a necro, but thanks, Ugh. I took a look at your bear. I'm going to be gearing up some of my druids for tanking purposes here soon. Looks like it's lots of Stamina and Agility. I won't be able to get all of the gear that you have just yet, but are there any other stats I should worry about?
I know we don't need Defense, if talented correctly, but hit, crit, penetration, etc... Any sort of priority for these stats? I'm quite a noob when it comes to tanking.

I was curious about this as well because I started a new group and gonna use bear for tank :P

Stamina, Hit(till 263), Agility, Dodge, Expertise, Strength.

Ran Tank through Naxx 10, 25 and geared him up before that I was doing heroics not as much since its hard as heck, but after Tank was at 29k and def cap I started downing Heroics, Gun first, then DTK, UK, UP, still need to down HoL and HoS. Nexus I hate so I dont do it.

I found Culling of Stratholme to be an easy heroic to do. Just don't worry about trying to rush for a drake mount.
