The new World of Warcraft Faction Change service is now live. As we mentioned previously, [ http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=18031079410&sid=1 ] we’ve been in the process of developing a new service for World of Warcraft that will allow players to change their faction from Alliance to Horde or Horde to Alliance for a fee. After purchasing a Faction Change for a character, a player can choose any race of the opposite faction that is compatible with the character’s class. For more information on the Faction Change service, please read the FAQ, [ http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&tag=FCFAQ ] or visit the Faction Change page [ https://www.worldofwarcraft.com/account/faction-change-intro.html ] to get started.

Based on further community feedback, we have also decided to offer a race change service in the future. Players who choose to switch races will be able to change their race within their same faction and class. Additional details will be released at a future date.

No. PvP realms no longer possess any faction-based restrictions. You may now play Horde and Alliance characters on any realm you wish.

ugh...I was tempted to transfer my 62 priest and 4 62 locks to alliance on Bonechewer to play with Gitcho or something. $150 is a lot of beer/gas/hookers.

just FYI to save some people heartache:

Dont log your accounts in for 20 mins before trying transfer and make sure no one has anything in AH or mail. You will NOT be able to play those specific characters until the transfer is enabled, says that it could be up to days, but when I tried to log in it told me to wait 30 mins for faction transfer to enable.

Changing my Orc Hunter into a stubby little Hunter of Doom right now. Took forever to get to the payment portion, because it kept saying I had to be logged out for at least 20 minutes, then it told me my mailbox had to be completely empty (I had 2 pieces of read mail that I had to delete), then had to wait another 20 minutes...

$30 x 5 = $150 Faction change
$25 x 5 = $125 Server Move

$275? Uh.. wtf, over.

Yeah thats a bit much to ask IMO - the $30 price tag should include a server transfer as well. Or at the very least they should offer a discount on server transfers for people who want to change faction as well.

I got so excited at the prospect of this - but then saw that it's US only. [edited to fix country - put EU by mistake]
I can't wait for it to go live here. All i need to move would be my druid.
That would give me a tank for instances and heroics and he's dual specced moonkin so I'd do that for pvp with the shaman.

Well since alliance always win BGS on BG9 I transfered my Shamans over to alliance from horde just for pvp been waiting a while for it 2 complete Has someone already completed a process if so how long did it take?

Can I use this service to change race on my existing faction?
No. We will be releasing a Race Change service in the near future for this purpose.

This is what I am excited about. Hopefully changing a race on a toon will only be like $10. Looks like I might not have to level goblin shaman I might be able to pay my way there.

I think it'd be cool to swap, but I have 12 characters in the 74-80 range, and I'd want to transfer them all, and paying $360 and going through the hassle of 'liquidating' the guild bank and rebuilding it... not worth it.

So for those that have successfully changed faction, how do things work.

1. Reputation - have they mapped it one to one to the opposite faction. PVP factions too.
2. Mounts - if you have a racial mount does it change to the new races mount. e.g wolves to elephants for horde to alliance shammies.
3. Achievements - have they mapped over achievements for pve. What about pvp achievements - That takes class for example.
4. Flightpoints - do you have to run round like a loon discovering them or do they give you them all.

What will happen to the character's reputation levels when I change its faction?
Upon changing factions, the reputation level associated with the character's previous race will become the reputation level of the new race. All other racial reputations will be converted according to the following chart:

Orc (Orgrimmar) ↔ Human (Stormwind)
Tauren (Thunder Bluff) ↔ Gnome (Gnomeregan Exiles)
Undead (The Undercity) ↔ Night Elf (Darnassus)
Troll (Sen'jin) ↔ Dwarf (Ironforge)
Blood Elf (Silvermoon) ↔ Draenei (The Exodar)

Additional faction-specific reputations will be converted into their cross-faction equivalents (if a cross-faction equivalent exists). You can view a full list of qualifying faction-specific reputations and their equivalents here.

Faction neutral reputations will not be affected by this process, and faction-specific reputations which do not possess an equivalent will be lost.

I successfully moved my rogue over to horde to join my guild. Sweet! Got to join them in Ulduar/Vault/OS! Now I just have to gear up so I can be in top 3 on dmg again like my hunter always was (hunters are OP - my hunter is 12th in gear in my guild according to wow-heroes, but I consistently rank 1-2 (rarely 3) on dps/dmg)

The racial factions map one to one but they shuffle them around a bit so your old race = your new race. For example, normally Orgrimmar and Stormwind map one to one, but since I went from human to undead, they shuffled it so Stormwind mapped to Undercity, and Darnassus mapped to Orgrimmar.

Mounts: Same thing as racial factions above. I was a human with a night elf mount (and Darnassus exalted obv.), and because I switched to Undead, my Darnassus rep and mount instead got translated to Orgrimmar rep and mount.

Being level 80 I was granted *all* flight paths in the game, even though I hadn't previously discovered them all on my rogue. So if you haven't become friendly with Sons of Hodir yet, be careful! Don't fly to Dun Niffelhelm (sp). Nah, I am honored with them so that didn't affect me, but I could see that as a surprise to somebody who's not met them yet...

My first thought was "Great, now my blood elf paladin can join my alliance team!".

Then I realized that my blood elf paladin is on another realm than my alliance toons and on the same account as my tank. This means I would need to transfer both faction, realm and account for this silly elf, just to add a third paladin to my alliance gang. Not worth it.

Just a note (didn't see anything in the FAQ regarding this) - it seems to have completely reset my tournament dailies after transferring I had all but one complete on horde, but now on alliance I have to go back to the very beginning of the dailies. Not sure if that was intended, it seems to go against what they said about titles/reputations (whatever you want to class it under).

Here is something that just hit me...

$30 x 5 = $150 WoW Battle Chest
$30 x 5 = $150 WoW WotLK expansion

$300 for 5 new accounts with RAF so you can hit 60 in a weekend, then 70 the next weekend.

I have a feeling they'll be making a new Battle Chest when Cataclysm goes live, so it'll have to adjust at that point. But still - thats a bit strange the 2 methods are so close in price.

those aren't even remotely comparable.. $275 to xfer any amount of gear on five 80s or $300 + x amount of wasted time to start all over?

I have to remember that achievements are these silly things these days.

I was more meaning things like having grinded for various flying mounts / rewards kinda achievements... Not stupid "I've been to x, y and killed z" ones.

lol and I agree, if you have people willing to run you through stuff, it's stupidly easy. Go farm reg ToC. My former GM's guild geared a fresh resto druid, he dinged 80, and equipped a fully epic set of gear. Between ToC and Crafted stuff, it's very easy.

I dunno, even a fresh 80 team can get pretty well geared in dungeon blues, and start working on heroics. My team is geared out (I went heroic crazy yesterday and did like 6 heroics last night) so i do the heroics fast, but with the new badge gear, I can get up even faster than doing lower lvl raids. Exactly. I've done a few heroics bosses with brand-new teams in crafted epics and dungeon blues. Difficult, but doable.

For the rest of us mere mortals, it's far from easy. It's no different than animist PL. Sure, it's stupidly easy for the PL-ee, but you need the PL-ers first. ;)

Though I will agree that most of my/our issues are less absolutely gear-related and more about having the gear and experience to mitigate the mistakes or limitations of multiboxing.

Used RAF three times actually. Fail to see your point though, instant team on another faction, or 100s of hours of my time, the exact same grind all over again, for $25 more....

I saw somebody asked about the Argent Tournament. They said in the FAQ that they would be unable to transfer the Tournament Achievements, so I believe that means they probably reset everything relating to it.

Took a long time to transfer my Hunter if anybody else is waiting for theirs. I started it last night and this morning it still hadn't given me the "Switch Faction" button, but when I got my lunch break it had finally gone through. The one downfall I hadn't thought through about going Dwarf was having to ride on a freaking goat until I can get a real ground mount...

Thanks for that. just thought it was weird I kept my seals, and squire pet. I guess it would get a little complicated trying to move all those dailies around.

edit: by seal I mean champion seal. BUT, I also kept the 9 Valiant Seals also - that was the 9 going towards my last faction dailies. Oh well Once I get through the first part, money will be money.

Maybe its just me, but everything 5-man related that doesn't include gimmicky vehicles has been rather easy to me Post-BC.

Occulus, Old Kingdom and ToC being exceptions to the rule. Old Kingdom because of the stupid last boss.... /sigh

Hey Fur, for the last boss I did this (you may have read this before):

3 fire elementals, +spell power totem, pop heroism and go to town. Dont heal tank, you shouldnt need to. I killed him within 20secs of engage and insanity will still happen, even if he dies, but you will be able to loot boss after wiping to the insanity adds. Well my tank and one dps made it through, got achievement too! I think you need about 4k dps per toon with heroism, which shouldnt be too hard.

I'd wager they removed all the [faction only] quests and now you have an opportunity to go back and get all the faction quests for your new faction.

Hmm..something I just noticed on my was-Orc now-Dwarf Hunter, Orcish is still an option for Languages. Going to have to go see if I can use it to talk to the Horde.

Just tested it, the Horde can understand what I say in Orcish, though I have no idea what they are saying. Now I need an Orb of Deception.

Heh. Just got a new hat last night and wanted to fly out to Shadow Hold to get my dps enchant for it. Weird, I don't have the flight path. Oh well I'll just fly there from tourney grounds on my flier.

Oh weird, it's all full of hostile mobs. I have to do my entire Ebon Blade **AND** Argent Crusade questlines in Icecrown all over again! I didn't lose any rep, I didn't lose my "140 quests in Icecrown" achievement, but now I get FREE REP and FREE GOLD to do all those questlines over again :)

Heck, I still have a couple of the reward items from those quests in my bank...some are enchanted, I hope they're not "unique" and I won't be able to finish the quest until I DE or vendor the reward item I have.

If you are done, may i ask how many hours you needed to do this all over again? I'm gonna transfer my 4x Draenei for big fat cows ASAP when EU allows it.

Edit: Read some more, and i really gotta ask. Is boxing 4 tauren really that bad? Are they to big? My shamans will be standing in the background all the time, with my paladin infront tanking.

I am strongly considering doing this - however I have some concerns:

I am a Crusader. I dont want to lose my title or access to my 9 awesome quests that make me lots of Gold. What happens to this stuff?

I dont want to have to do 25 lots of Valiants quests all over again - I think I would kill myself.

Further update. This worked well. Two characters transferred no issues.

I didn't realise it doens't have to be a permanent move. 60 days and you can faction transfer back if you want.

If the error message is 203, then you have to use another IP or wait about a month before it clears.

Don't remember what error it was, however i tried with a different card, but that didn't work eater. So now i got the error with 'max attempts tried' and it's locked for 24 hours, and another 72 if i try again...

If i call billing support, will they be able to fix it? It's 6 hours until it opens.. :(

The system only accepts the same cc 3 times per period of 24h. Insisting will lock both the cc and the toon. Even if they can deny it in cust sup, believe me it's 100% sure.

This is the same problem I had the other day, they will only allow you to use the same card on up to 3 (sometimes 2) payments over accounts (This is exclusive of monthly account fees).

I waited the 24 hours period twice and it didn't fix it, merging to battle.net and using a different IP also didn't help.

In the end I had to phone the billing line constantly for several hours until I got through (I imagine it'll be bad at the moment due to this new feature). When you speak to them on the phone say:

"I have been trying to transfer x characters on x accounts and my card has been locked due to over use. Please can you unlock my card so I can move my other x characters."

They will ask you to confirm some details, the credit card you used - Which characters have been transferred etc. Then they will confirm it has been locked and unlock it for you. They are very friendly and helpful.

Does this mean you're leaving me? :(

Note. I also tried the emailing route... hoping it might get it resolved as I couldn't initially get through on the phone. I got the reply to my email yesterday (a good couple of weeks later). So unless you're happy waiting, the telephone is your best bet.

After 40 mins of queue i got trough, (that robot said estimated was 10..) But the woman on the other line was very helpfull.

Alltho she needed to ask me lots of weird questions, like what my mom's name is, she said it would be fixed withwin days, due to LOTS of people having the same problem. Funny thing was she asked me the exact same questions, for each accounts.

Was like, OK lets ask the questions for your next account.
Again, what is your mothers name?
Where you live? Still live in the same street? :D

And yes monkofdoom, I'm leaving you. You should transfer to, more multiboxers on Horde side, i can only imagine how awsome it would be if we all went naxx25 once. :rolleyes:

I'd love to move with you but having just spent the money moving here, and with most of my friends playing Alliance there too, it's not going to be an option for a while. But who knows what the future will bring :)

So, yesterday I was able to transfer my paladin, but when i tried with the last Shaman, i only got 'There was a problem with payment'

I got cash on the card ofc, and then i tried once more - and got the lockout. I'v now waited 24 hours, when i tried i still got the error, payment problem. Do i really have to call billing again tomorrow? : /
