View Full Version : [HotKeyNet] Issues from a new boxer...

Well first off.. just want to say that this site is godly and in only 2 days I have learned a lot about how it works. I have some "new boxer" questions that I hope someone with experience could help me with.

Some details about me.. I run 2 WoW clients on 1 computer.. I have the PiP display for both that I can toggle between them with F1.. can disable PiP with F12.. can launch both my WoW clients and rename them with Ctrl+Alt+L.. and I can use my 0-9 keys for spells. And my characters are a lock and a priest.

My questions regard..

1. Movement - Is there a way with HotKeyNet that I can have both my characters moving in sync with the regular controls? For example, I can put my lock on follow and he will attack what I attack but he wont stay next to me. Is there a way to have him constantly on my right side or infront of me and face the direction I am facing? I can use my arrow keys and both my characters will go forward when I use them but if my lock is not facing the exact direction my priest is facing he will run off at an angle.

2. Quests - Is there a macro/addon that will basically make my lock grab all the quests my priests does? Without me needing to switch to my lock and actually pick it up?

3. PiP Feature - This is more of a preference really because my PiP script works perfectly.. The resolution of my monitor is 1440x900 and when I use the PiP script to maximize my window to that resolution it basically makes wow stretch to that resolution and not actually become widescreen. So I am seeing fat characters running around when my monitor does actually support the widescreen resolution in WoW. I have the in-game resolution set at 800x600 if that helps.

4. Attacking - Attacking works for me I haven't had that many problems with it.. when I use Mind Blast on my priest I cast Immolate on my lock.. but when it comes to the DoTs.. I have 2 on my priest so far and 2 on my lock.. is there a macro that will cast all 4 together with 1 or 2 clicks? Another problem I have is that my Priests button 3 is Mind Flay, and my locks button 3 is Shadow Bolt.. when I want my lock to Drain Soul (which is set to 6) and I want my priest to go back to Mind Flay my lock goes back to using Shadow Bolt.. Is there a simpler way to do this?

Sorry for the wall of text and I did use the search function but couldn't find some of these answers so I figured if I asked them all at once it would be better.. thanks ahead of time to anyone who decides to help me out.

1.) No, not really. There are ways to do everything you're asking for (interact with target, independent moving through arrow keys or whatever you choose) but there is no clean solution.

2.) You should explore the Jamba addon. There is an option in there where the master will automatically share any new quests they receive (if they're shareable).

3.) You can change the HKN script to adjust for whatever resolution you desire. It's very likely that the default script is not appropriate for your computer/monitor setup.

4.) The golden rule of WoW and multiboxing is one action from you causes one action from your toon. In other words, in most cases it is against the rules to cast two spells with one button press (or 4 DoTs with 2 button presses). It sounds like you need to work on your macros a bit and really think about what you're trying to accomplish with every button press. If you want your priest to cast mind flay every cast, and you want your warlock to cast different spells, then just keybind mind flay to both buttons for your priest.

Thanks for the quick responses.. I have been looking into Jamba and I will be grabbing it and as for my monitor.. I set the script to maximize it to my monitors max resolution and it works but the wow window itself is stretched but I think I may have found the solution.

What are the best macros for following? I would like to have the lock follow me and then with 1 key press have him walk up next to me or on me so he is the same distance from the target.

As for the attack assist macros.. I am going to have to study the macro systems to see what I can come up with.

*Edit*

As for the Dots I think I may have not explained my question correctly.. My priest has 2 dots and my lock has 2 dots.. if I press it one time I want it to be 1 dot from each.. and if I press it a second time I want the second dot from each. 4 different dots with 2 buttons.

Regarding the DoTs you can do it in two ways:

Simple: make the macros /castsequence
More complex: use a round robin functionality in HKN (you should skip for now and just focus on the basics, like using castsequence)

Your priest macro will look something like ( I don't remember the names of their DoTs):
/castsequence PriestDoT1, PriestDoT2

Your warlock macro will look something like
/assist Priest
/castsequence LockDoT1, LockDoT2

Regarding the following and moving after follow you will need to use a different key and manually move the lock up a few steps. You may find it's easier to use your lock as your main, with your priest as support, so you can use the lock pet to tank easier. You'll also probably realize that you need to get used to judging distances for your slave that is following instead of moving them up a few paces every time.

Oh I see.. thanks a lot that's most helpful. I learned a lot.. appreciate all your help.

The easiest way to solve the problem is to keep WoW at the wide screen ratio at all times. In other words, change your in-game resolution setting to 1440 x 900 (or some other resolution with the same ratio) and change the sizes of the small PIP windows so they have that same ratio.

But if you prefer to have two different ratios (one for the big window and a different one for small windows) you can call WoW's SetScreenResolution function in your PIP hotkey and change the in-game resolution back and forth.

That sounds like a good idea.. I will be testing it when the servers come back up.
