Dual-boxing and freezing up

Hey, I did a search on the subject and haven't found an answer that works for me. Basically I am dual-boxing WoW in windowed mode keeping both at almost the lowest res. After about 20 minutes of playing, both windows freeze up. And i have to restart the game. I can play for about 20 minutes again and it freezes again. My machine is up to par so i'm not sure the problem. Are there some graphics setting I should be changing?

if the time frame were decreasing, i would guess heat issues. since it seems to happen after the same amount of time, i'm thinking memory issues.

how much memory do you have on your box? any way you can run a memory test?

I don't really know how to run a memory test. It still froze when i was just running one window of wow. Not sure if it took longer or not, wasn't paying attention. It's strange, I didn't really have a probIem for the first month or so, it didn't do this. Not sure if it could be patch related. I don't think its a heat problem either. I've got the cooler master and 5 or 6 fans running.

Check out "memtest86". You'll have to download it and burn it to an ISO, but I think that's the definitive memory testing software out there (at least for free).

It seems like 3/4 of the problems I've ever had with memory were solved by unplugging and re-seating the memory cards though. I'd always start with doing that multiple times - retesting in between each attempt if you have problems.

The other thing could be some completely unrelated piece of software with a memory leak. What does perfmon say your memory usage is like? Are you starting out with a relatively low amount of memory utilized and then it climbs over time?

I tried running the Memtest86 and it seems to be getting to 7% really fast and freezing up. The time stays at 1 second and I cant hit ESC to quit. It doesnt work and I have to restart. Maybe I'm just not being patient enough. I'll give it another try and let it sit for awhile. Also I have 3 cards of ram, do i need to test with only one in at a time?

I'll give the performance monitor a try. I've never really used it before but it might help to watch the memory usage as I play.

It sounds like your computer has issues not wow...

Do you have random freeze during regurlar work as well or only when stressing the videocard like with gaming?

If a memtest is unable to finish you should look into the recommended voltage settings for your memory. Some memory needs higher then default settings, this is usually the case with "overclocker" or high end memory.
