nice!
for the shaman, I do know that straight Light Bolt, flame shock, lavaburst, then lightning bolt, till lavaburst is back up is better dps than chain lightning in there.. meh

Using Chain Lightning will always give you higher DPS... even on single targets. It isn't much though, and it costs quite a bit more mana to use in your rotation. If you are undergeared, then taking out Chain Lightning is a good idea to save yourself some mana.

/click is FTW. Nuff said.

No this is not true anymore - they nerfed CL and buffed LB so in fact the reverse is true for single targets

What are the totems that you use?

I know if you don't get someone to tell you are doing it wrong, you must be doing it wrong, but.... Why is trash macro a sequence and it seems to work for you, but then on the boss you make seperate macros that in mind pretty much do the same thing (only do openers---cooldowns and then spam normal attacks)? Why not just use a normal sequence for bosses also? I guess I just have about 3-4 macro total, DPS, Heal and misc. The rest I just use unmacroed.

DPCT for CL is still > then LB. Marginally but still puts out higher #. The issue is the mana cost, and if there is more then one target around. It's really only advisable to throw in CL during your 2nd portion of a rotation.

/click gives your more DPS then cast sequence. So he just ues an easy castsequence for trash mobs then uses the tweaked out higher DPS /click for boss mob fights.

Missed this comment but it depends on your level of gear as LB scales much better than CL.

At the very best CL is approximately 2% better than LB and at higher levels it gets worse - ps your comment almost seems quoted word for word from the Think tank elemental shaman entry on Elitist jerks - if so it is out of date, the general consensus is to just drop CL from your single target rotations altogether

Think tank is updated for 3.2, has been for a while. You can also review the 3.2 discussion where this is covered a few times.

The theory craft has not been updated since about July in the TTT though he probably has changed the names of things like wind shear etc

For the very latest on theory crafting you need to go to Bink's Blog (on EJ) and download SEIC 3.2.0.17 you will notice that none of the rotations even include CL as the combined changes to LO and CL made it no longer desirable against single targets. If it is not desirable for raiding it is even less desirable for heroics where the fight is a lot shorter (higher BL and trinket uptime as a percentage)

This is not really a mechanics thread so I will leave it there

The only time you would recommend using CL is at low haste rating - personally I am at 750 haste and have electrifying wind so your mileage may vary

Wow, great post!!!! Might I ask what kind of DPS numbers your guys pull? I'm in the process of rotating 2 of my Shamen out of my team and putting in my Hunter and Druid. Hunter is Survival at the moment and pulls around 2200-2500 DPS depending on the situation. I'm wondering if MM is better for boxers.

My "guess" would be MM is stronger. Does not depend on pet or traps, but LnL is strong for Raids. Tureshot Aura is a good buff although it might gotten else where. My BM hunter is a fresh 80, still trying to gear him up for raiding.
Can't help you on Shamen, Druids are good, but not as easy to box with.

I pull anywhere from 3k to 5k, depending on the fights.

HotR and CS now share the same cooldown. So that sequence is going to be sitting there not doing anything for awhile. From what I've been reading we'll need a single-target macro with CS and an AoE macro with HotR.

Single-target looks something like:
Pull with AS > CS > J > CS > HW > CS > ShoR > CS > J > CS > AS > CS > Shor > CS > J > CS > HW > CS > ShoR > CS > AS > CS > J > CS > ShoR > etc.

For me a sequence with HotRx3 SotR is screwy. It will only cast two HotR, so I threw in a CS to fix it.

About this:

/cast elemental mastery
/castsequence [reset=combat] flame shock, lightning bolt, lightning bolt, lightning bolt, lightning bolt, lightning bolt, Earth Shock, lightning bolt, lightning bolt,
/cast lava burst
I wonder if this will be fixed soon. Cant be true they allow a fallthru like this after they fixed castsequence.

Dont rely on this.

Tsquared and cataclysm will fix it ... probably.

I have heard that it works in the beta, so we'll see. I wouldn't doubt a fix in the future, but for now it works splendidly.

FYI - Icy Veins is no longer available to Arcane (or Fire) mages. (it is a tier 3 frost talent and if you spec non-frost, you won't have enough points to get it)
