View Full Version : Viable 5-man Heroic Group?

My main goal is to have a 5 man lvl 80 (85) team that is capable of completing most Heroic 5 man dungeons/bosses. I would also like to 5man the old pre-BC lvl 60 RAID content if that is possible. It would be nice to have multiple different classes in the group for utility and to give me options and variability when not multi-boxing.

My current 5 man group is the following:
- Tank: 62 DeathKnight NE; (currently Un-Holy AOE/pet speced);
- off-Tank/off-DPS: 62 DeathKnight Human; (currently Un-Holy AOE/pet speced);
- DPS: 62 Hunter: NE; currently BM Pet-empowered build;
- DPS: 62 Warlock: Gnome; Demonic Pet-empowered build;
- Healer: 62 Druid: NE: Resto build.

Basically my thoughts were to build on the trinity of a tank & healer, with and a few different DPS'ers & mix in 4 beastly pets to help with the limitations of 1 player on 5 chars. It has gone well for the first 2 tank-n-spank bosses in Ramps except that I can't keep the group out of the AOE from the last boss (Wyvern/dragon) though I haven't invested in fire protection yet.

Before I go further I wanted people's feedback on whether the above group would be viable for most 5 man heroic bosses. If not, I could substitute in the following class combo's easily:

- Replace any of the above with more Death-Knights for DPS & or pet? Not saying to do that but if I run into issues with trying to control 4 different classes simultaneously I could go with 4 DKs (1 tank & 3 DPS/pets) and a healer for simplicity.

- Replace one of the above with a 59 Paladin (Draenai). I liked leaving this pally at 59 for pvp but 59s with XP-off is dead right now due to 3.2. I want to leave him here to see if they open up non-xp queues to be across all battlegroups but could catch him back up to the group if that would help. Not sure what spec would be best if I did that.

Lastly, if I absolutely necessary, I could maybe level up some other class/race combos but I really would prefer not to.

I would appreciate any thoughts / feedback / recommendations.

As long as you have a tank and at least one class that can heal, any MB group is viable. Some will just be tougher than others.

I can't keep the group out of the AOE from the last boss (Wyvern/dragon)

This really depends on which AE you are talking about. If you are talking about the fireballs he spits at you while in the air that should be an easy enough thing to move your guys out of via the arrow keys or something.

If you are talking about the AE after he lands and breathes on you, just make sure before attacking with all of your guys, you get your tank to turn him away from everyone and then engage.

The biggest issue I see with your group make-up is the lack of “fear” control.

Although it has and is done – I cannot see myself gearing up a fresh team without the aid of a Shaman or Priest. 5-toons running across the screen in different directions for the full length of a fear can be difficult to recover from unless you are geared well beyond the range of the encounter.

Humans can recover from one fear with “Every man for himself”; having fear ward and along with a tremor totem can make things a bit less stressful.

Just my $0.02 however; others seem to manage fine, I just like safety nets.

THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE RAPID REPLIES SO FAR

I think a big part of my problem is that due to the 4 pets and only doing quests and MOB grinding through now (this is my first instance) I haven't had to get sophisticated at all in my setups. I basically have the tank as my larger window with my off tank next auto-following the tank with the 3 other toons (healer/dpsers) following the off tank (all 4 in small windows). Frankly much of my leveling and such to date has been easy-mode letting the pets do much of the work as I just stop the off-tank from following the tank (so everyone but the tank stops moving) and then I go pull with the tank and his pet dragging the MOBs back into range of the pets. After kicking off all the runes on the tank/offtank I then unload the hunter and keep him auto-firing and switch to the warlock and dot up and auto-fire then rotate around again burning through runes or cool-downs as much as I can while healbotting as needed (mainly HoTs). Having to switch between windows so much is hurting my DPS & overall capability.

I just recently found this site so obviously I have much learning to do as there looks to be some good macros & some sofware tools that would allow me to do things on more than one character at a time... In my current setup an AoE fight is very painful to manage. There is also much to be said for the simplicity of a tank with 4 same-class casters (shaman example) but I am not sure I am up for leveling more characters at this point...
