View Full Version : Don't use stopcasting if you are an idiot.

I tweaked my healing setup for my shaman last night. Added stopcasting to all of them.
Went in to battlegrounds and my healing was worse than before.
I was getting completely wasted by the opposition, heals didn't seem to fire.
I figured I must have mistyped something and stripped the stopcasting back out.
So this morning I'm thinking about it and realised why it didn't work for me.
I was spamming the healing button. I was doing a much better job of interrupting my healing than the enemy was.
I've decided that stopcasting isn't for me - I am definitely a button masher. I figure if i really need to interrupt a cast I can hit my down arrow (step back) and pop a heal. The rest of the time the heal can hit when it needs to.
I thought I'd share this startling revelation ( :) ) in case there is actually someone out there equally as dim as me.
(Unlikely I know).

Haha sounds familiar.
I use /stopcasting in the healling macros for the dps guys.
The healing macro for my tank is only the cast command.
Kept wondering why the heals where going so bad when i had /stopcasting in it :)

I use the stopcasting on my healing macro on only half of my shaman team... 2 on 4 .. so when I'm hitting (thousand of times) the button like I always do... I'm pretty sure that two chars will actually be casting the heal on the specified char... instead of "stopcasting" it everytime I push the button

I had exactly the same problem and couldn't get on with /stopcasting.
Now my healer just doesn't cast DPS spells unless I modify the DPS spam key with CTRL, which means he's always ready to heal if I think it's likely to be needed - no stopcasting for me ;)

I use modifiers on my follow button and follow strobing on my melee guys, then it has a mod for when something goes wrong in combat and they need to follow...basically it's follow the leader when out of combat or stopcasting in combat
/click FTLPickATargetButton
/stopcasting [combat]
/follow [nocombat][mod:lalt/lctrl/lshift]
I broadcast only the right-side modifiers for FTL lucky me WoW can figure them out in macros...now if they could just do keybinds :P

I use stopcasting judiciously.
I too had used it in my original healing setup but I fold like a cheap suit under pressure and resort to button spamming.
So, now I use it only for "oh crap" buttons and situational things like cleanse/dispel.
I love stopmacro though (unrelated I know). :)

On my (very new) setup, I have stopcasting as the NUMPAD 0 button which is by my right thumb and then I can immediatley follow with the appropriate heal spam from the rest of the NUMPAD.

Wouldn't jump/move do the same thing?

It would, but jumping in particular results in a much longer interrupt because you're still "moving" and unable to start casting anything other than instants until you hit the ground again.
A quick tap on a strafe key would do the trick, but that's just as much effort as hitting the stopcasting button (which I also don't have... ;) )

/stopcasting doesnt even work anymore on Hard Core channeling spells like Hellfire and Rain of Fire
