Patch Notes : World of Warcraft PTR Patch 3.2.2

General

The Brood Mother Returns

After years of lurking in her lair battling the many brave adventurers who travelled from afar to challenge her, Onyxia returns to commemorate World of Warcraft’s five-year anniversary.

Onyxia has been scaled to offer new challenges to level 80 players and is now available for testing in 10- and 25- player modes.
Adjustments have been made to the encounter to keep it fit for modern raiding, but the fundamental experience of fighting the Brood Mother will remain, as will the horror of the Deep Breaths!
Some classic items Onyxia offered level 60 players will have their stats adjusted appropriately for level 80 players.
Brood of Onyxia, a very rare 310%-speed mount modeled after Onyxia herself will be available for the luckiest of challengers.

Copied Test Realm characters will no longer be copied with their achievement history in order to better facilitate the character copy process.

Thanks, Olipcs!

It's nice they changed the typhoon knockback, but I'm worried they're going to increase the cooldown to match thunderstorm. Moonkins are hurting so bad right now that it would be a terrible nerf at this stage.

Yea because 20 yard range with a 36 yrd knockback along with a 3 sec daze on a 20sec cooldown is fair. By the time I got back in range to your boomkin Typhoon will be rdy again. Our Boomkin overlord need some pvp help but not this overpowering ability. With that said, it was pretty cool being Typhoon'd all the way to the BS from the LM in AB.

I'm not saying typhoon needs this buff as it's fine the way it is. I'm simply saying if they increase the knockback range and increase the cooldown then it's a nerf to a class that is already on the bottom of the list. Either buff typhoon (and this certainly would) or leave it alone... don't nerf it.

It seems the way they're combating mass AoE (cleave) PvP teams is by giving classes the ability to spread them out. Instead of just reducing the massive focus on AoE, or reducing the damage so that it's truly only useful in limited situations, they're trying to allow people to buy time if they're rushed.

The arcane mage changes are unreal. I was already doing pretty good DPS I thought. I may just drop my arcane barrage altogether and simply cast an arcane missle after four blasts. Seems like the proc will likely be up every time with four casts each having a 40% proc rate?

Nice cast sequence: Arcane Blast x4 -> Arcane Missles; repeat.

On the PTR that in the lastest build they are changing the range of Typhoon it has been reduced to 12 yards to compensate for the extra 10 yards added to the knock back. People think its a bug

I do think moonkins need some reliable way of getting melee off of them. I enjoy my boomkins alot and melee are a pita.

Statistically, your chances of it not being up per cast is something like this:

1 cast................... = 60.0%
2 casts.... .60x.60 = 36.0%
3 casts.... .36x.60 = 21.6%
4 casts... .216x60 = 12.9%

After 4 casts, you'll have the buff 7 in 8 casts, give or take.

Wow is all I have to say. I was considering ditching my mages for my locks, but now it seems that mixing them will work nicely.

Glad to see fan of knives finally being nerfed. Would love to see hurricane, volley, mind sear, and most of the other spammable AoEs nerfed as well. "Aoe everything" is the theme of this expansion.

There was a time when aoe damage was a luxury of a few classes, and its uses seemed appropriate - spread small amounts of damage over large groups when necessary. Now, it hits and even crits individual targets almost as hard as direct hits, and is available to nearly every class in the game. It's turned many pvp situations into aoe spam fests, especially 5v5 arena.

Then there is aoe cc. CC was once an art form that required timing and strategy, and an appropriate mix of classes. Now you just spam it and hit everyone in range, and most classes can do it.

Not sure if the trend will continue but if it does, expect to see 61 point talent gimmicks like aoe polymorph, aoe mortal strike and god knows what else in the future.

Thanks for the math on the probability for a missle barrage proc.

Seems like the rotation I listed (ABx4, AM) will be a rather easy, high DPS rotation to maintain. Beauty of it is that haste doesn't mess up the timing, just makes all five spells cast faster. Can't wait. My mage is already my top DPS toon. :)

I'm loving this change to mages as well - farewell any problems I might have had with mana on long boss fights. Accoring to E-J, after the 3.1 (?) nerf to ABarr, the optimum dps rotation for arcane mages was simply 3 x AB, AM (whether or not MBarr had procced). This will simply ramp up the damage on the final AM while making it more likely that MBarr will have procced. I'm a very happy camper :D
