So in a thunderstorm last week one of my 1280x1024 17" LCDs went kaput. Can't stress how much I depend on dual-monitor, especially when boxing, so I dragged my old 19" CRT outta the basement to serve as a temporary replacement. I can't wait to get it off my desk though, it's too bloody huge and the depth of it means it's right in my face whereas the remaining 17" LCD is nicely set back.
So I fired up the ol' web browser, did some searches and ordered myself a replacement:
LG 22" widescreen LCD - 1080p (max resolution 1920x1080) (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4642593&CatId=2775)
So it can do 1920 resolution...my question is how much will this impact my WOW performance? I currently run 2x 1280x1024 screens, with the main toon at windowed-maximized on monitor A at 1280, and the two slaves kitty-corner on the 2nd screen at 800x600 each. Currently I enjoy upwards of 75-90 fps out in the open world, less in congested areas of course. (I'm only counting the fps on the main screen, I have the slaves capped at 15fps)
So when the main goes up to 1920x1080 resolution how much will my framerate likely drop? I know you'll say "depends on your rig" so here's my rig:
Intel Core2Duo E7400 - 2.8GHz
XFX GeForce 9600GSO 768MB PCI-Ex 2.0 graphics
4GB single-channel (yuck! crappy m/b) DDR2-800 RAM
Win7-64 RC1 build 7100 (got a preorder for Win7-64 Home Premium in October)
Just a basic mATX board that supports my CPU, grafx, and RAM. Plan to upgrade to a better board in the fall, keep same CPU and go up to 8GB dual-channel DDR2 at the same time.
