View Full Version : Underbog - final boss? Argh!

I'm really struggling with The Black Stalker in the Underbog.

I've always known, and accepted, that some fights just wouldn't work for a multiboxer and I just wonder if this is one of them?

My team last night was a Tankadin, Holy Priest, Fire Mage, Hunter and a DPS warrior (played by my wife - there's another mage in this slot when I'm 5 boxing solo), all between level 64 and 66, and I can't even make a serious dent in him.

The second static charge just wipes me out, and usually before he's at 50%.

I'm WAY over-level for the encounter, and having fought my way through the other tricky encounters (random mushrooms of death, AoE fear...) I'm a bit gutted to find that I'm struggling so badly on this one.

Is this a fight that's just very difficult for a multiboxer to do, or is it my skill that's lacking?

I suspect it's my lack of individual character control that's hurting me most here.

Any hints / confirmation that's the case from those who have done it, before I throw my hands up in the air and give up?

I'm so tempted to throw one of my 70 mages into the team to see if I can just burn him down quicker, but that feels as much of a failure as just giving up!

Bah.

I guess the non heroics are all pretty much doable as a multiboxer with a classic setup. Skarlot has cleared them all and is now on to the heroics. Im still levelling my priest and second mage to 70 (65) now, and wont attempt instances until 66+. Cleared ramparts and blood furnace when they were 61 though, for the quest reward, those shoulders last till 70 :)

This boss is really easy to "cheeze", but hard to take the normal way.

Put your ranged dps and healer under a mushroom, and they will not be lifted into the air by the stalkers tractor beam. It's now just a matter of tank and spank. Might take some aoe now and then, but I found it to be really easy. I have not yet tested The Underbog in heroic (farming the easier ones first like mecha & slave pens for gear upgrades).

Now that's an idea I haven't tried. I'll give it a go tonight.

The problem for me is the static charge rather than the lifting or even the chain lightning. I can heal through it once, but if another one lands on me then I'm OOM.

The obvious answer is to do what I do in normal groups - spread out - but I don't have the skill level, nor perhaps the key setup, to do that effectively just yet.

The other answer, perhaps, would be to pile on some NR gear, but I don't have any significant TBC resistence gear of any sort to speak of.

I'll have a good look at it next time to see just how many mushrooms there are - if I can even spread the team out into two groups, with the healer in the middle so they still get party heals, that would halve the problem.

Thanks for the tip.

Ya definitely bind a spread out macro, I think that will resolve a lot of the issue, or move them out manually and then engage.

What I did was wait until he went to the far side of the room, then moved everyone up with them spread out about 10 yards apart. It didn't work the first time as I got a bit too close and aggro'd him with me still bunched up (quick wipe that one). Once I got it down, I had one to the far left, one at the left corner of the path, one to the right corner of the path and one further out right. Hard part is getting everyone spread out enough to avoid the chain lightning without aggroing him until you're ready to pull. :P

I might be forgetting something since I don't really run UB much anymore. But as a tank I'd just turn him away from the group and he would just chain lightning on me and the rest of the group was mostly left alone. Who cares if you get levitated if you can still attack the boss.
