Someone should print up some shirts with "Additional instances cannot be launched. Please try again later." and wear them to Blizzcon. Hell, give them away for free at the entrance line... imagine just seeing a sea of those t-shirts milling about :p

Do them in the morning. I used to do dallies in the morning and try instances at night... now I do it the other way around.

I love being on a low pop realm.

@mmcookies: Awesome idea. should start a thread on WoW general forums about it.

You're Mag EU? They put fixes in for certain servers, but not all servers. From what I understand, they're testing it on chunks of EU servers before they go on to other servers...like the US ones.

Problem seems to be gone on Thunderhorn-EU.
A few weeks ago we had extended maintance (till 17.00/19.00) for the entire battlegroup (cyclone)
Problem seems to be gone as far as i can tell, even with everybody trying out the new instance(s)

Since the 3.2 patch on Argent Dawn EU, I've been unable to get an instance after 10AM on a weekday!

As this is why I multibox, I've cancelled all 5 accounts, giving the "Additional instances cannot be launched, please try again later." issue and I won't be resubscribing until they've fixed it.

The instances issue began with the launch of LK and the dungeon achievements hunt by solo chars and 3.2 has just exacerbated the problem with the uber heroic badge loot.

Blizzard have had 10 months to fix the issue but they don't seem to care.

I know they won't miss my 5 accounts but at some point they have to pay attention to the customers.

There's a 170+ page thread on the official forums. It's pretty terrible they went live with 3.2 before fixing this problem. There's no update other than "Soon". So meh. If I wasn't raiding 3 nights a week I'd probably kill off my accounts in frustration of not being able to instance. So far, it hasn't affected me too much in northrend, but anything in BC or Classic, don't even try it after noon.

I only have a small delay on weeknights... weekend nights... well thats another issue. I generally go do something else.

It's not like the fix is hard. Just add a queue. THEN go worry about hardware upgrades to expand availability. I don't care if I have to wait 10 minutes to do an instance, I just hate having to GUESS that I'll be able to get into one in the next 10 minutes of impersonating The Man From Uncle on mescaline.

moog
08-13-2009, 07:26 PM
Exactly! Fixing the issue, preferably, or adding a queue system where you see that you are Nth in the queue with an estimated time of entry would have me resubscribing all 5 accounts but, as it is, I'm sick of banging my head on instance portals trying to play the frigging game!

Crap. I can't find it now but I saw a blue post today that said something like "some realms have already undergone enhancements to alleviate the instance issues and have experience a notable improvement." Not going to go digging for it but it does appear that they're doing something finally.

mmcookies

I seem to recall back in the day when Blizzard told us how the hardware upgrade schedules were structured, what projected dates each stage was being pushed and apologized if there were any delays. Where did all that transparency go?

Blizzard Poster 2. Re: New content? why not... 08/13/2009 01:09:09 PM PDT

We've been undergoing infrastructure maintenance on our various databases to address the instance capacity issues for several weeks now. It's a very involved and complicated process, but a great number of realms have already seen relief. We are continuing to work on the Battlegroups that have yet to see the infrastructure changes necessary to improve the instance capacity available to players on each realm.

....

We're working on gathering a report of the progress we've made thus far, as well as our plans in the coming weeks, and will be providing this information to our players when it is available.

Don't hold your breath. The whole "coming weeks" translates into "the kids are going back to school soon, then it'll get better!"

We understand that players have been experiencing situations where the active instance limit was reached. We realize that this is very frustrating for the affected players, and would like to say a few things regarding the issue.

The limit on active instances was originally implemented as an interim solution to ensure that all active instances perform smoothly. Within the last few weeks, we have configured and optimized our infrastructure to better handle the instance load, and many players are no longer experiencing issues with instance creation. However, to incorporate these upgrades across every realm is not a minor undertaking; it requires fairly complex coordination with third party affiliates who actually host the hardware we utilize.

This reconfiguration is already complete on more than 40% of the North American realms, the optimized realms are listed below, and the situation has noticeably improved on these realms. We are continuing to work towards the implementation of this reconfiguration for all realms, which we expect will resolve the instance creation issue for all players. We expect the optimization for all realms to be fully completed within the coming weeks, and would like to assure everyone that every effort is being made to ensure that this is completed as soon as possible.

Ugh, thanks for the heads up .

am I to assume then that say Gul'Dan which is my main server in NA, is part of the 40%, or will we see more lists as time goes by this week?

My server (Conseil de Ombres Eu-Fr-RP/PVP) was quite badly affected by the annoying "No more instances blah blah ...". I used to have to litterally jump into an instance immediatly when back from work to insure that I would be able to do ONE heroic a night. By the time it would be finished, it was not possible to enter any other instance anymore.

We had extended maintenance about 2 weeks ago. Rather annoying, that basically meant two days without playing.

The good news is that since then I didn't get the infamous message once. I can start an instance at 7PM during the week or on a sunday afternoon without any issue. Very, very big improvement. Very big imprpovement on my badges farming too, actually.

Be patient, they seem to be really fixing it.

I agree with Fef.
I'm on Thunderhorn EU. (cyclone battlegroup)
The no more instance bla bla error was quite frequent.
After the extended maintenance from 2 weeks ago i can enter every instance i want, without jumping to an invisible wall.

I just started playing again 2 days ago, but Grim-Batol EU is a nightmare when it comes to instances. First night, i tried several hours without getting in, (Was watching a movie on my second screen meanwhile). I even tried 04.30 in the middle of the night, but couldn't get it...and last night it was just as hopeless.

Hopefully our extended (14 hours!!) maintenance which they are doing now, will help.

Gul'dan isn't on either of those lists, so don't expect it this week. They are making progress, though, so just be patient. As others have noted, there actually is evidence that they're working on it this time! :)

Will the new "cross server looking for group" system make this issue better or worse? Hmmm...

Bonechewer is on the 'finished' list, and it appears to have fixed it.

And the x-server LFG I don't like that a bit (well, actually I could care less since I can do a few heroics solo) because it just opens up all the asshats that can now ninja without repercussions. I'm not sure why Bliz thought that would be a good idea, unless they're doing something about the ninjaing problem. But, like I said, I don't pug, so meh.

I've been so lucky <knock on wood> that I've never seen this. I can't imagine what's going on there. Open a ticket each time you can't get in. maybe they will do something eventually.

Will the new "cross server looking for group" system make this issue better or worse? Hmmm...
My opinion: no effect. Since they're doing these on a "floating" set instead of tying a BG's instances to one set of blades, whatever extra comes in will just spill over into those underutilized blades that the low-pop BGs have been using for a while now.

Now, the real question is, even with the blade reconfigs, will the influx of people with Cataclysm cause even those to get overloaded?

Ughmahedhurtz
08-26-2009, 07:22 PM
As I understand it, the old setup (still live for the realms not yet upgraded):

Datacenter X

BG X1

Normal blades 1-10
Instance blades 1-10

BG X2

Normal blades 11-20
Instance blades 11-20

etc.

As it exists, BG X2 cannot use BG X1's blades as they're hard-coded to segregate themselves. Which is why you see some servers have issues and some not. Go look at the posts on who has these issues and they're almost always in the same BGs.

Once the "reconfiguration" is complete, it'll look like this:

Datacenter X

BG X1

Normal blades 1-10
Instance blades 1-20

BG X2

Normal blades 11-20
Instance blades 1-20

etc.

So what you'll have is a datacenter-wide pool/cloud/wtfever instead of arbitrary segregation. Might be region-wide pools but I kinda doubt that.

I won't claim "inside" knowledge or anything but that's the gist I'm getting from various posts from the blue guys.
