I'm on my second Samsung, widescreen HD monitor. The first one whitescreened on me within a month of purchase. (didn't save the box or receipt). My second one, a different model, bought about 2 weeks ago, screen is flickering like it's not getting enough power (saved the box and receipt this time.). These really do suck.

Anyone recommend a better brand?

I have a pair of Dell 24" widescreens, the first is 2.5 years old, the second is just over a year old. They were reasonably priced and are both still going strong.

Hate to say it, but sounds like the problem is on your end.

I've got five Samsungs (I've had more) ranging for 15" to 24" that have never had issues.

When you install the NVidia drivers, did you check that little "HD Monitor" option without first checking to see if the monitor actually supports it? It does say it will damage monitors....

Oh, and Dell usually uses Samsung panels. ;)

Interesting....

Install what drivers? lol, I just plugged it in and turned it on:)

Also, had at lesst a couple Samsung TV's that never had issues for years, and from what I read Samsung monitors got good reviews so I thought it odd.

Thanks Fur.

Not drivers for your monitor, for your video card.

If you're using Nvidia cards, when you install the drivers it asks you if you have an HD monitor, with a big disclaimer about "this can damage your monitor if your monitor doesn't support HD" or something.

I always leave it off.

The monitors were HD monitors, but I looked in the Nvidia control panel and it had a box unchecked for 'read as HD' or something. I checked it, didn't notice any change.

I haven't noticed any flickering of the monitor but it only happened once so far and it was on most of the day.

The other monitor that whitescreened seemed to be an issue w/ that particular monitor at least thats what I got when I googled it.

Lol, idk....I just plug it in and hope it works:)

Yup I have 2 HD 24" monitors here at work and they work like champs all the time, even in dual screen, and they have some great resolution some of the best in fact for what they cost. And I have a 19 wide that I use at my desk for a while with no issues I even run WoW from time to time when there is nothing to do and I am the only one in the office.

If it has <5ms pixel response time, it's probably a TN panel, which is shit. For another 80 bucks or so, you can get a Doublesight 26" that's an IPS panel and is a very nice panel.

I agree with Fursphere, the problem might be on your end or just bad luck.

However usually this is not something related to drivers or software. I would recommend checking your power outlets. If your computer is running on the same outlet as the monitor it should be earthed if that is not the case it can cause all kinds of strange problems.

If the power out let is not earthed you can rig it yourself:
In homes 15+ years you should be able to easily earth your pc to a water pipe or radiator. Newer homes sometimes have plastic tubes and then it does not work.

Earthed = grounded lol

Yup could be bad power as mentioned, I have my stuff running on a beefy UPS so it will regulate it so should not be as bad. I would agree with what is said grounding should be a must to ensure there is no issues with excess current it can be damaging to both you and your equipment.

I thought IPS panels were great for photo editing with bright colors but were sucky for games due to ghosting effects? I am somewhat on a budget, but i will look into that monitor, especially if it has component hookups:D

As far as power suplly, the house was renovated probably w/in the last 10 years or so the wiring should be fine.....Grounding, off a radiator or w/e's going to be impossible I think..wooden baseboards, carpet, painted dry wall. (Im guessing furniture is not something I want to use.)

My 2 computers run off 2 outlets (1 each) with their monitors with a surge board each. Both computers run fine, the other monitor, an older Dell 4+ years old, runs fine. I'm assuming the computer running with the HD monitor is running fine as well. The only issue I can see is the monitor dimming. The Dell monitor was also hooked up to this previously and ran fine, so I don't think it's the power source or problem from the computer. The dimming occurs whether I run the air conditioner in the room or not.

From what I got off Google, the whitescreen from the first Samsung monitor was common to that model and was a problem with the monitor. This one, idk, bad luck I giess....(just noticed the TV to my right I've had for years is a Samsung...works great though.) Bad luck I guess.

I'm using a 30.5" Samsung - Syncmaster 305T.
My previous monitor was a Samsung 22", which I passed on to my mother.

Both are working fine, 2 years on the 30", 3 years on the 22".

I recently got 2 samsung monitors (1 22" 120hz for 3d and main window and 1 23" high rez (2048x1152) for 4 wow slave windows) and except for the fact that their color balance is totally different - they are great so far
