View Full Version : SM?
Hi I have 4 level 34 shamans. Im currently running them through with my freinds 70 shaman. Does it matter which SM will give me the most exp? will i get more exp if they are a closer level to me?

Higher the level the better, however it depends on what your shaman can do. I can clear all of SM Cathedral with 70 mage in 12-13 minutes, 4 pulls, which nets 12-15k xp per clear. I have to pace myself, faster I do it, faster I sit around on my but till the 5 instance per hour crap clears.
Well on the shaman i agro alot and then put down the fire elemental totem, and he kills it all with his aoe pretty fast. the next big group i agro i drop the earth elemental off and he agros it all and i drop a magma totem to kill them all. so i dont know how fast i can do it. Id love to have a mage to run it though ahah :)
Yes they both have a cooldown (20 mins i think) and they cant be placed at the same time

It doesn't take long to test this, just see how much xp you are getting per kill in Library with 1 or 2 mobs, then do the same in cathedral.
I found that from 34 onwards 4 man team with 70 boosting, that Cath was more per mob. Plus the fact it's quicker and easier (no mob resets, bigger grps, quicker from start to finish), I'd recommend Cath from 34 onwards.

I do SM Lib, Cath and Arms five times before reseting, I do tend to loot which slows things down, but as a 70 Hunter I don't have that great an AoE so killing takes longer and uses more mana, so I loot with an alt while the hunter drinks.
Cath takes about 20-30 minutes, at most, Lib about 20 and arms uto 40 as my pet can only pull single rooms, the doorways in the passages are bugged. I reset after doing all three rather than just one. Admitedly now Lib is not really worth doing as my alt is too high for it... but now I have moved on to ZF anyway. I'd imagine that ST would be good for Horde due to Stoneard being so near. And I think you can get in from level 30 (or 35).

I'm running 2 of my shamans thru right now with my 70 mage. They are level 24ish. Im currently doing graveyard and getting 1k xp per pull. roughly 4 pulls per instance. So the xp ticks upwards pretty quick. I plan on doing this all weekend.

Interestingly enough all the SM instances can be entered from 20 onwards. I started there at 20 with my Lock, it was very annoying to have Doan's Robe but be unable to wear it for 16 levels... more annoying were the two blue cloth drops that dropped off Whitemane and her friend (hat and shoulders I think) both of which couldn't be worn for 18 levels (I got to 21 between arms and cath). I just wish I could afford a full team, then the XP would be even better. :)

what's the point to kill +20 lvl mobs if they give the same exp as +5-6 lvls and you can grind +5-6 lvls faster

It's SM, a 70 kills pretty much anything in one shot, so it's not that big of a deal.
Honestly, I'd prefer to grind SM forever as it's one of the only instances I like pre TBC.

SM is about my favourite too, until Scholo.
But as an Alliance player, I'll power-farm (made up word) xp in the Stockade for as long as I possibly can - it takes literally a minute to come out, sell loot, repair if necessary, and get back into the action, compared to... ummm... well, lots of minutes for SM!
I'll head there at about level 30 I suspect, with the 70 mage in tow.
To answer the OP, at your level there's probably not much in it to be honest. My personal favourite is the Cathedral, but that's only because I get such a buzz out of the final pull :)
