if you wait another 6 months you'll probably get another (x) gold discount. But would you want to do that?
always read the patch notes ahead of time, so you know what's coming, and decide if you want to wait or not.

Warlock epic mount quest was kinda expensive pre-TBC, but post-Wrath?!? Come on! If you have lvl 80 char on same server then you can earn that gold in a day, if you know what your doing...

Btw, that wlock mount quest was quite fun so it's good to complete it at least once :)

I second the suggestion that you check out the patch notes for the PTR from time to time. I knew about the mount changes for a while and deliberately waited before buying the 225 flying skill and mount. Saved a pretty decent amount, and the new speed for the slow flyer is good enough for questing and exping and generally getting around, so aside from my gathering toons I intend to save the ~5000 gold per character.

I was flying around yesterday with the speed boost, very nice. However I had 2 of my 5 chars with fast flyers so I dropped 15k and got the others. Even with the normal mount speed boost I think the fast flyers are way better and worth 5k for training. Of course I'm poor now

Wait for the next expansion, level cap 90, 3 patches after release and bear witness too "ARE YOU KIDDING ME BLIZZARD?!? YOU CAN BUY EPIC FLYING FOR 100G NOW AND I SPENT 5000G BEFORE. REFUND NOW OR I QUIT!"

This is one of those things were i laugh at people, check patch notes.

the mount prices aren't ridiculous it's the ability to solo MC that's just not right, man they need to reduce the damage people do. :P

The game progresses there is no reason to have someone sitting around at 60 farming gold for days when the game really starts at 80. If you already have an 80 then the gold is trivial anyway why not allow faster progression for newer players to the server or game for that matter? It's not like they give you 20g for each quest you complete at level 10. They still have to farm a bit just not as long.

The other thing to think about is the rate at which you'll replace the mount. In original WoW 40-60 took a little while if you were just playing to play, so farming the gold to get it was worth it. Now you gain experience faster and can level 40-60 in a day or 2 of casual play, there aren't really any new quests at that level and the rewards are the same as they used to be, coupled with doing fewer of them to level, you have very little gold now while leveling.

As for the classes that had a quest for mounts, post a message in here next time you see "LF healer and tank DM lock mount quest," in the general channel. Sure you can just outlevel it and go back for it but that kinda takes away the experience doesn't it?

My group is leveling by questing, and right now (after buying the 225 skill and mount) they each have slightly more than 2000 gold each at level 76.5. Their only expenses going forward are spells, as I use the guild bank for repairs and the guild bank is doing very nicely thanks to Auctioneer. If the group gets to 5000 gold from questing (and let's face it, that's very likely) I may just get them the fast flying mounts. But it's also possible that by that time I'll feel as if they don't need them.

My gatherer toons already have the fast flying mount, so I'm covered if I want to go on herb/mining/mote runs. Then again, I have nothing to spend my gold on, and the guild bank is at 18,000 gold and climbing. It will probably have somewhere between 25,000 and 30,000 gold by the time the group is able to afford the 300 riding skill. So at that point I may get it because there's no reason not to.

dont forget to drop off another 1k gold in dalaran for each alt so you can fly in northrend when you get there at level 68. yes, early cold weather flying!

1. tome can only be purchased by a level 80 from that girl on the dragonhawk at krauss landing.
2. binds on account, so you can send it to any non-80 alt.
3. tome is consumed when learned.

I just got exalted with Wymrest on my pallies so I guess I'll be saving up for epic flying skill! I always wanted to have drake mounts. I know, these aren't the coolest ones but cool enough for me.

great approach. I had a bunch of gold on my team when I hit 80 and went and bought a whole bunch of gear for them, it would have been a lot wiser to get the flying skill sorted out first, farm dailies and then buy gear.
