View Full Version : Solo Shaman Leveling

Apologies if I should put this in the support forum, but I feels like more of a general discussion sort of thing.
I'm going to be leveling a single shaman from 71 to 80 over the next couple weeks or days. I know it's a crime to only play one account at a time, but I really can't handle more than one given my current schedule and lack of fundage. I was looking for what people saw as a good solo leveling spec, or where they look for specs these days. I checked the regular places like wowwiki and some google results, but most things seemed to be from a year or two back. I'm leaning toward enhancement since I'd like to give it a try. Oh, it is on a carebear server as well, so PvP survival is not a concern.
So anyone have a favorite spec or a source for current shammy (solo) love? Thanks.

Enhancement allows for fast and continuous killing because the right talents allow you to regen mana at a rate that keeps your mana bar full. The wolves are an awesome "oh crap" button, also good for soloing those quests that recommend two or three players.

Thanks for making this post.
At the tail end of my RaF, I brought a shammy out of retirement and got him a partner, and now they're both 60. My problem is that I have absolutely no idea how to play the class effectively anymore. (The retired shammy had sat at 55 since November or so, and his partner only did a bit of questing then they both got gifted levels to 59.9.)
I tried them as Elemental in Hellfire and could not maintain mana or killing power. Maybe I'll look into an enhancement build for them and give that a go.

This is a bit quick and dirty, but a spec similar to this should work:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#hxbhoZ0xxIotzIhuoRuVo
The idea is to increase DPS and mana efficiency from shocks. Maelstrom weapon will give you one or two insta-casts during each fight, which you can use to insta-heal yourself. Or, if you don't need a heal, pop an insta-lightning bolt or chain lightning instead. Shamanistic Rage can be used as a way to quickly fill your mana bar or with Feral Spirit for those times when the shit hits the fan. Hell, an enhance shaman has so many get-out-of-jail free cards that it's kind of silly, really.
Edit- Use water shield, windfury on your MH and flametongue on your OH. Simple DPS cycle would be Stormstrike --> Earth Shock --> Lava Lash --> and then just hit whichever of those comes back up first, remembering to refresh water shield when it's down.

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for. Once my downloader actually finishes the patch and servers come up I'll be ready to become a blue space goat tornado of death.

Thanks for the info and for taking your time to offer up much-needed advice.
I took a look at the shaman builds on talentchic.com and this (http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#hVhhVZhbxIoxdIhusRuVo) was the top Enhancement build. Do you have any thoughts/opinions on that one?
Also, now that we can drop 4 totems at once, and have 3 sets we can make and store with the level 30/40/50 skills, what would be good sets to put together for solo or dual shamen?

I can't say about that talent build, as I only ever solo with my shaman anymore, and not that often. My build might be more appropriate for pre-WotLK for all I know (at least for dungeons and raids). I use water shield to maximize mana regen, but based on that talent spec, it's possible that mana regen is good enough now that you can substitute lightning shield for extra damage.
As for totems, I'd drop Strength of Earth (extra str/agi), Flametongue (extra spell damage), either healing stream or mana spring (whichever you find you need more of), and Windfury totem (+melee haste). For duo/groups, it depends on who you are with, the extra spell damage from flametongue won't help most melee characters, while windfury and SoE won't help a caster. You just check which ones help your groupmates the most and use those.
