View Full Version : Which race for my new ally 5x paladin team?

I just can't decide which race to pick, anyone have any opinions that might sway me one way or the other? I have been trying to choose for a week now. Mix of PvP and PvE.

5 male dwarves for size advantage (my head hurts from my tauren team), mace spec, and general coolness in appearance.
5 female humans for rep advantage, sword and mace spec. (Male humans look terrible imo)
5 draenei for weak HoT and 1% hit aura that doesn't stack (probably female as males are awful big)

Starting area makes little difference to me, as I have done them all many times, and will go hither to yon leveling anyway. Must be ally too, have a BE pally team from before the huge changes that made Ret powerful.

I can't get past the free HOT from Draenei. My hunters and DKs love it. I thought it would be a free instant, check that again, instant heal that I could do on the move. Having to stop in WSG sucks. Having to stand still and get interrupted and then be able to cast 0000 spells sucks. So free instant HOT that I can use seems really nice. A lot of people know to get the main char now, so I can put 5 HOTs on the main and fend off a pretty good attack without even healing early. I made 4 pallies (1 prot, 3 ret) and a shammy. The 5th pally didn't add enough to make it worth it. Strength of earth totem, mana/healing totem, automagic poison/disease totem, tremor totem, earthbind totem, the list goes on, the shammy added is WAY more than the 5th pally can provide. Sure it's melee is tiny, but the shocks are kinda nice.

Besides what are you going to do with rep anyway? If you need smaller, just zoom out. And explain how you can heal on the run.....no choice right there. Just my 2 copper.

Hard to go past humans really.
- The rep gain bonus is going to save you time - as a pally, you are probably going to want to get rep with at least a few factions (Sons of Hodir, Wyrmrest & Argent).
- The Expertise bonus is nice (2nd most important combat rating in PvE behind Hit).
- The Every Man For Himself ability, in PvE it can be useful for breaking fears and other disorient/stun type effects without having to use Divine Shield and remove all threat. In PvP it frees up a trinket slot giving you the flexibility to get more resilience, burst damage, whatever you like.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
S.

Just make sure your deciding factor if you go humans is not the rep bonus. I've been hearing this for 4 years. It does not stack/multiply/compound/grow exponentially or anything of the sort other than a flat percentage increase. It is exactly 10% bonus rep - if it takes 10 days for a grind on another race, it'll take 9 for a human. I've played several humans and I found it negligible even for very long grinds.

Yeah but all racials are negligible. So you should pick the most fitting thing. I'd go with the draenei for the 5x HoT personally. I don't ever bother with rep. It's so much faster to get gear other ways anyway. Doing heroics will probably get you epic drops before the rep will. Buyable enchants come fast enough since you don't need much rep for them.

It would have to be human for me, Every man for himself is just too good :)

From my point of view Humans are way to go due to

their imba talent "Every man for himself" with is both usefull in PvE ( Princess in Maraudon for example) and PvP.
Humans also have rep grinding less tedious
Spirit bonus makes Mana problems less painfull untill Judgements of the Wise
specializations are usefull for both retri and prot

Sorry to burst your bubble, but spirit is useless for paladins. The real reason to use humans is Expertise and free trinket. Dwarves are cooler, but their racials are crap.

I went for a draenei, the hot is pretty good when there is 5 of them instant for no mana. Plus the extra hit is okay and you have also just landed yourself with 5 of the hottest race if they are female *wink wink* XD Gotta love the blues.

Human all the way(or 4 humans and a blueberry).
Draenei hot sucks at higher levels, and 1% hit doesn't stack. Dwarf 5 exp on maces is nice, but their other racials are bad.

If you need smaller, just zoom out. That's a great idea when you are in wide open spaces... otherwise useless. Thanks.

Hand of freedom seems to cover a large part of the human's one great racial.
Running healing is covered by potions and lay on hands (which most players use far too rarely).

So the racials all seem to be fairly meh for boxers, at least from the nice range of responses. Thanks for your opinions

dont underestimate the power of stoneskin, immune to poison, disease, bleed, and 10% armor boost for 8 seconds, mixed with divine sacrifice and hand of sacrifice, it has its real uses in your survivability, and yeah totally maces 4tw :D

I wouldn't pick based on racials. They change quite a lot. Maybe mix it up? I am playing a 5 man team with 5 classes and 5 races, lol. It's just for kicks but (once I got them together) they are a gas.
