I'm 5 boxing, but a lot of people I run into only 2-4 box.
What is your reason for boxing the # that you do?
Mine is so I can solo things without having to deal with PUGS (Waiting time and 12 year old attitudes just don't appeal to me)

well im just starting out but i went with 4.
because my friend is leveling up with me and I'm playing 4 shammys and he's making a tank.
this way we can do instances and i dont have to deal with healing and tanking.

well my reason for 5 boxing is the same as you. not have to pug.
10 boxing i do just for the challenge. to see if i can so to speak.

I usually do a group -1 {4 in WoW, 5 in EQ2}, leaving the open slot for my husband to play the tank. But we just came back to WoW with the intention of raiding, so we're both full 5teams now.

Started out two-boxing a pally/priest, as I already had two accounts (one was deactivated). Now I have three active accounts and am RAF boosting. When I'm done boosting and 3.2 hits I'll be three-boxing pally/priest/lock.
Reason for the #, well initially I started small with the two accounts I possessed. Then the itch got me and I upped it to three for the ability to RAF boost, then decided that all teams going forward would be 3-boxed, as I discovered while leveling a tank/healer combo it took awhile to kill mobs. With a dps'er added things will die alot faster.

Started with 3, now have 4. Don't think I would ever want to go the 5x route, I usually can find someone to tank for me since everyone has a DK lol.

I have a 5 box team, and a 4 box team, I 5 box for same reason as yours. 4 boxing because I play with a long time friend of mine that after a year and a half of telling him to come over the WoW side he finally did and his been playing for year and a half almost 2 years now.

Currently I am 4 boxing in WoW and building my 4 shaman up to level 80 - They just hit 30 (I'm in no rush and not on RAF right now). I have 3 level 80s (Paladin, Mage and Hunter) which I 3 box and do 25 dailies with them which nets about 1kg. I also 3 box a 61DK, Priest and Rogue - this is a bit harder. Lastly I 3 box a 47 Warrior, Shaman and Druid. I plan on 4 boxing four Warlocks up someday as well.
The long term plan is to 5box instances and tossing in friends sometimes so I don't have to do all the work.
I am with everyone else here in the fact that I hate pugs, my guild is small and I don't have the time nor inclination to raid any more. SO - I guess I do it so I can make my own group just for the fun of the challenge.

When I started boxing, I went straight to 5boxing. I had already leveled 2 priests, a pally, hunter and lock to 70 in TBC. When I'm running instances with other people, I'm usually stuck tanking or healing. It seems like the only way to get my dps some emblems now is when I 5box. Everyone seems to prefer to pew pew.

I 5-box, though I have 10 accounts total (with 6 active at the moment). I had leveled a character solo to 60 and then purchased a second account to level alts via instance runs, and once I found out about keyclone and this site, it wasn't long before I was running five accounts. I had considered getting 10 to run 10-man raids eventually, but have shelved that idea for the time being.

10 boxing for the ability to level up teams in raids solo.
And when I do want to do something slow with 1-2 toons (raiding a 25-man, shopping on the AH, flying to a location, etc) I can do dailies or something on my other group of five. No downtime.
And because it is fun :)

I five box because I can't 6 box. I came from EQ2 where the group size is 6.
But pretty much the same reason as you. I don't want to do PUG's.

5 here unless my wife wants to play then 3 and she runs 2, working on convincing her into letting us 10 box.

I box 10 when I do it. Largely just so I can have a multi-faceted experience.
I box five. Simply because I don't stand PUGs, and because it gives me access to (what for me is) high level content.
I might try someday if I feel I covered all that is accessible with only five.

I do 5, mostly so i can try to gear up eventually to the point where my extremely hardcore raiding friends will feel comfortable dragging me along to what is the "old" content for them, and not have to be asking them to help me for gearing runs. I also have one buddy who is even more causal and intermittent of a player than me, and I can just leave a slot open for him without having any real effect on my group progress.
I'd have to say one of the biggest reasons i play with any consistency at all is to keep in touch with all the RL buddies I left behind on the east coast (US) when I moved to Cali. There are 3 I know who play wow a lot, but don't use any other form of online/live messaging.
And oddly enough, though I have pugged very little, there are quite a few really fun players I have run with that I'd say overall pugging is about 70% good, 30% bad, from my experience. Usually as long as one of my good pug friends invites me, I can expect a reasonable group.

1...both my accounts have different names so until i get that fixed (which im workin on) i wont do it. once it rectified, then ill be 2-boxing.

I'm taking a break from my five. I'm working on another five team in order to transfer to another set of accounts (for 10 total) when they hit 80. Same as others above - five-boxing in order not to PuG. In the future, I'd like to 10-box for the challenge.

I box 5 at the moment. Im working on having 3 sets of 5 so I can eventually do my own 10mans. I also have alot of friends and family to help gear me when needs. thats always a plus. My 3 raf spriests hit 40 last night @ 9hrs played. not to shabby :)

I'm doing 4, so I can pick up a 5th for heals in pvp. Picking up a priest or a shaman turns 4 warlocks into rolling death.

Hello all,
I play 5 Box and working on my agreement with a friend for him to do the same so we can raid together. I played this game since it started and PUGs are the death of me ... I do raid with 2 characters outside the mbox set up because I am lucky I found a hardcore guild that allows me to raid only 3 times a week and it makes it much easier to box instances for the box bunch.

I started with 2, then gradually increased. I'll stick at 5, but we're also building a config with 3 people playing 10. It's slightly unusual as our system allows you to transfer control between people in real time, and split hybrids (for a toon like a druid /shadow priest etc, one person does the heal spells, and another does the damage spells).

4 boxing, because I use one computer and one screen (well I used to, now I have 2 screens) and they fit nicely and I can still see them all when split in quarters.
Also, any arena team will require a healer and so I didn't see the point having a 5th at the time of my starting.

Mostly 5 box, breaking into 10 soon once i find a new place to reroll on.
I like the addon programming and beating the dungeons.

I have 4, temped to go to 5, but I need to work out the billing on all of the accounts so I can control it better, ie. they all bill the same day, so I can go month to month, and take a month off when I want to.
I'll probably need to move some alts around when I go 5 as well, so I need to map that out.
Too busy right now, I barely had time to log on and do fishing/cooking/JC dailies on one alt this week.
Which is why I MB - some weeks I can play several times a week, and on the weekend, some weeks, not at all, and I despise pugging as it is these days, too many games and ego and the ridiculous achievement/gear issues.
Hey, if I don't start AT dailies by Halloween, that's my problem. :) I'm in no rush, and I've found I like to lag behind the mass of players, there's less crowding and competition. My guys are in Grizzly Hills right now, and I remember how bad it was the first time through, and how packed it was, and having to wait for respawns. The bear kill quest killed me, so many people were camping the bear spawns.

Just started 5 boxing myself. Having a blast, and my guild calls me the alt factory.

Yeah my 4 extra accounts are all going to bill on the same day ($60.00), that's not too much but its deff something I have to take into account since I have 2 additional accounts that get billed on another day.

When I first took the leap into multiboxing I wanted to 5 box but I found it really hard to justify the purchase of four extra accounts in order to five box right out of the gate. Even though we could easily afford it, it just seemed so incredibly extravagant. I knew my husband would be a really hard sell so I didn't even try.
So,I started 3 boxing, then took a long break. I was lured back by the goodness of RAF, and I decided to add another account. After getting about 6 4x teams to 60 in those three RAF months, I took another break and I'm just now returning and decided to add another account with RAF to get the extra characters I need to fill out those 6 teams.
So I'm finally getting my five box team and my husband is ok with it. Yay. :D
Maybe in a few years I'll be able to work my way up to 10 boxing. :p

I just started recently 10 boxing, mostly because I wanted a guild and did not want to join any or have to bother people for signatures.
I will also be transferring some toons around and will be messing around with 5 druids, pally, 3 mages, and a priest for 10boxing various pre-bc instances.

I started off 3-boxing with shamans, in part because I had accounts for me and my sons, and also because it just seemed right with each being able to Chain Heal themselves and hit everyone.
But I recently stepped up to 5-boxing for two reasons.
1) I wanted to level up more toons using RAF
2) I was getting tired of trying to fit 3-boxing into 5-man instances
