I'm planning to level some more alts using RAF, although it's a slightly complicated setup...I have 3 existing "vet" accounts (VetA, VetB and VetC for naming sake). I have an 80 lock on VetA and a prot pally on VetB. This might be seen as heresy, but my plan is to use the lock to boost. I've tried using the pally and the lock and I just find that the pally is quicker. With the felguard pet he has a tank an very rarely takes aggro....although he can't rez, he does have many means of self healing...and with a soulstone can rez himself...or use it on a healer alt.

So, the plan is VetB recomends RAF1 and VetC recomends RAF2. So this means I'll be taking my first foray into 5 boxing (after testing that my rig can handle it of course!

Previously I've only used the boosting method with the booster and 2 alts. Will having an extra 2 toons increase the 1-60 played time or will the bonus group XP offset that enough to not have a significant impact?

I'm not sure but I think if you have more than one 80 on the team it will nerf you.
and the RF bonus is only given when you team within 5 levels of the friend.
it's probably best to have one level 80 and 4 lowbes.

VetA-80 , Vetb-lowbie + RF1-lowbie , VetcC-lowbie + RF2-lowbie

this is because the the RF bonus only works for toons within 5 levels of each other.
I personally like using a warlock to boost and I would use the void for lowest level instances because the fel gaurd kills to fast.
most people don't like the warlock because if the pet kills or does too much dmg you loose XP, that's why most people use a pally, it has AoE and it doesn't get points stolen for using a pet.

Sorry, should've made that clear.....only VetA will be 80...Vet B and RAF1 will be lowbies.....as will VetC and RAF1.

I've found that wiht my gear and spec, in the low instances, I have the imp out on passive (for the health boost if it hits the fan)....and in the higher instances I tag so many mobs at once that the times where the FG kills a mob first are maybe 1 per 100......but cause I can kill so much faster that negates it.

So....basically speaking I'd have 1 (unlinked) level 80 and 4 linked lowbies. Would this be quicker or slower than 1 (unlinked) 80 and 2 linked lowbies.

XP = Mob XP / numberOfMembers * modifier.

Modifiers:
1 person group = 1.0
2 person group = 1.0
3 person group = 1.166
4 person group = 1.3
5 person group = 1.4

Assuming the mob is worth 1500 xp per kill solo

With a 3 person group, you'd recieve 583 xp on each character.

With a 5 person group you'd get 420 xp each character.

Would be slower with more people in the party, but less than 30% and you get two additional characters levelled.

This is based on info from wowwiki so it could be outdated.

Got it all sorted out last night. Quested the 4 lowbies to 8 then done 8-12 in RFC. Moving onto WC last night. Surprisingly my PC was able to handle it. I have plenty of RAM, but only a dual core processor, so wasn't sure....but turning settings down worked wonders. The questing part seemed to take slightly longer than I remember doing it with 2 toons....but I hadn't trained any new abilities...plus of the 4 man lowbie team, the hunter ran out of ammo...I didn't even bother refilling...so it was 2 locks, 2 imps and a shaman. Now it's just autofollow all the way while my lock kills :)

My next question - perhaps should be another topic - does wearing heirloom shoulders affect XP gain while gaining RAF XP boost?

Yes, it stacks after the multiplier.

Left without shoulders, right with shoulders :)

Cheers, I won't use them then....I don't want the XP getting skewed between them then.

Although it seemed to take longer to do the alts - bloody hate stratholme now - I managed to beat my previous 1-60 record by quite a bit. 1 day 4 hours down to 13 hours 47 minutes.

I'd previously been using keyclone, but now trying to give Innerpace/ISBoxer a shot. I'd like my dual warlocks to be a bit more viable in instances.
