ok. we're a week out from the conversion date, and I'm going to open up what I've been working on and let you guys help me find bugs.


Your passwords won't work, you'll need to reset them. You'll need to fix your Signatures, re-upload your avatars and reset up anything you had in your profile.

PLEASE take a few minutes and at least do this and report back the all clear, or let me know where you had issues. If you could poke around and post to a few threads (it's a dated database I know) just look around and see if you come across anything that breaks. I'm especially interested in our German friends making sure the German templates are all in place and working.

We've had some DNS issues with the server, so you may have to edit your hosts file to get to the site. To do this, open up C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and add this line:


74.50.27.105 new.dual-boxing.com

Make sure you save the file as hosts and NOT hosts.txt

Please let me know if you run into anything strange.

Did that too, no dice.I'm not sure then, I have to edit hosts at home to get to it, but not at work. The hosting company told us there was a DNS issue, but their hosting panel doesn't use your typical naming conventions, so I'm rather hesitant to go fiddling with DNS settings.

There are 2 German templates, I'm not sure of the difference. You can select which language by going to User CP -> Edit options -> The very last option is Forum Language.

Ah cool - the informal (du) and the formal (sie) version - it's pretty good - the only downside is that the graphics like the "new topic" button are not translated - if that is the template we're going to use I would like to receive the PSD file if there is one so I can edit those and give them back to you to upload them.

Edit: there we go, Buttons should be in German once the user selects one of the 2 templates.

S.Are you getting any errors trying to upload an avatar etc?

I'll have to look at the phrases and make sure the german templates didn't overwrite the EN ones. There will not be a changeable color scheme, to give users the ability to change a site's them is a developmental nightmare. because you have to replicate all your changes for each theme you have. I'll see about making the stickies stand out a bit more, for now, there's just like any other posts. which is how just about every other forum software out there manages them. WBB seems to be the exception on this.

i would also request a bit of color somewhere beyond the various shades of blue. some reds and yellows would liven it up a bit.

6. This is working as intended. Users will have to reset this info.
7. I've tried a few different avatars and have no problem, needs more testing so we can find out what the error is.

10. I'm not terribly worried about it for launch. Subtle differences. There's going to be a bit of a culture shock when people see the new site, cause it's very different.
11. This is the importer getting confused, I'll fix it on the launch import.
12. We can't claim copyright over "All images and posted content" But updated the years. This will also have to be fixed on the launch data.
13. Subtle differences, I really want to get a feel for how people are seeing the new site. There's gonna be some QQ, and some things people are just going to have to live with, but if it's something that really is an issue, we'll look into fixing / modding it.
15. Added BBCode, but requires JUST the video ID instead of the URL. example: [youtube]JFwCCL0Vh6U. And yes we can do other embeds if they're in a similar format. Something for after launch.
16. The navigation bar in the header is still present.

As for not being able to get to the site, yeah, it's kinda..... we have some DNS issues and our host doesn't really want to help or explain their wierd DNS terminology. So we're kinda at it's mercy atm.

Just a touch of usability, if you could replicate the breadcrumb at the bottom of threads as well... I never want to go next/previous thread but I often want to go back to the forum and that means scrolling all the way up.

User CP - Edit Your Details - I made some changes in additional information, then get the message "You have entered an invalid birthday." There is no way to make changes to details without entering a valid DOB (it would not accept the year 1000 :P )

I entered a random date and now I cannot change my DOB, says I have to contact an admin to do that.

Any reason DOB is required (and then locked)?

Seems a little flakey with Opera. Looks like the forum trees are aligned to the right-hand side of the browser and has some very big gaps in random places. Opera also does not appear to be cool enough to have a bottom scrollbar.

Edit - works just fine in IE, so it just doesn't like Opera.At this point in time I'm fine with it being broken in Opera. That may be a bit harsh, but judging from our visitor's reporting User Agents, there aren't that many Opera users. I'll be the first to admit, I don't know much about Opera, but if IE and Firefox can render the site.... what's Opera's deal?

~60% of our traffic comes in with Mozilla user agents. IE is another ~30%. If we're readable in those, I think we're doing reasonably well.

You can open up /etc/hosts and add the line in the first post of this thread, save it, and restart your browser. If that doesn't work, it just may not work in your part of the internet >.<

I have something I need some people to check on. I need to know if you're PMs are showing up, and if they're correct. Now this data is old. it's from March 23, 2009. If you can jump in and verify your PMs from that time frame are correct and showing up. I would appreciate it.
