taking off and maintaining follow

Last year I tried one of the voice programs, can't remember which one but I stopped using it because whenever I coughed or my son ran into the room screaming about something my team would dismount in the air lol, anyway the nice thing about voice control was my fly command, I'd have my team mounted on their gryphons and start running forward then I'd say 'fly' and they'd all majestically launch themselves into the air while maintaining follow. I just had 'fly' mapped to space bar. However if I just press space bar once they don't maintain /follow - does anyone have any idea why this is and/or does anyone have a solution/workaround?

Everyone use their flying mount, then they jump to start flying, then /follow.

yeah I know - what I'm after is a nicer way to do it like the way voice control does it

jamba does follow strobe, so I just make sure they all jump and it immediately re-enables follow. So really just one key stroke.
