View Full Version : Hunter and Paladin- Dual Boxing
I've got a Hunter level 50 on a RAF account and a 52 Pally on my Main. I've decided to do the last 10 levels via dual box to save me time. But i checked the wiki and it said not to use them. Do you think it's possible? I have Dual Spec on my Pally so he could heal, the Hunter DPS and pet tank. Any thoughts?

Any combination is possible. Some are just more difficult than others :)
If you want a hunter and a pally, go for it. It's really not that hard to make it work these days, even if you choose to melee with the pally.
I'm guessing the best thing would be to have 3 button action bar set up, anyone have any ideas for the hunter? I was thinking for the pally; ret build with JoL, Exocism and Hammer of Justic. But for the hunter, i'm currently BM but maybe i should respec to Survival. For action bar set up, Arcane shot, Steady Shot and Serpent sting.

I have a pally and hunter (and some others but it doesn't change the basics)
I use the pally to tank, and let the hunter DPS. The pally can pretty much self heal, and having a pet makes a good "off tank".
I have a healer, but with the pally tank, I just have the healer in my DPS group for 99% of the time.
Good luck with boxing - let the obsession begin!

You could play the Paladin as the main and have the Hunter on follow with a /assist+attack hotkey, the only issue you may run into is your ranged weapon will be to close too fire every time you engage a mob (you would just have to walk the Hunter back a few paces before firing).
An alternative would be to play your Hunter as main with the Pally following you. You could make three hotkeys for the Pally:
- one that targets the pet then heals
- one that targets the Hunter then heals
- one that assists the Hunter then casts Holy Shock (a little more DPS, or you could melee with 'interact with target')
either way it will be easy leveling, and you would have to fall asleep to get killed.

That was my one fear, how to get past the range combat distance. I reckon i'll play my hunter and have my pally heal. If all goes wrong my hunter can shadowmeld and my pally can bubble. :P

Remember worse to worse you can just Drag the other guy behind you... I did this for such a long time. You may not be as 100% effective as getting 2 players together, but you atleast can still enjoy the nice RaF XP boost.

All you have to do is break follow before engaging the mob. My favorite team so far has been Tankadin, Holydin +3 hunters. It's a big loss of DPS in a 2-man group to spec a paladin holy to tow him around behind you. Spec him Ret or Prot and you'll get more DPS, easier killing and you will rarely need to heal thanks to JoL {Prot will rarely need mana with BoSanc+mass pulling}. Otherwise you just have a hunter pulling 1 or two mobs, so no one ever needs heals and your pally is just leeching and making things take longer.

I am of the opinion of it doesnt matter how you get the XP when it has a 300% bonus, just get as much of it as you can :)

Except you'll kill and level a lot faster {kill xp + quest completions} with a lot less downtime AOEing with a prot or ret paladin than you will killing single targets with a holy paladin as dead weight.
All set up. So far i'm running through Burning Steps and doing all the kill mobs and go to quests.
I shall be 60 on my Pally and 59 on my Hunter in no time!

Also, I'd stay BM on the hunter and let the pet tank. That way, you can crush all the elite quests in outland/northrend with uber pet heals (get the mend pet glyph!) and when that lags a bit, drop a heal on him with your ret pally and go back to DPS. Should work great.
Good luck!
I've got Ret pally and BM hunter. Hunters nearly 52 and Pallys 53. I'm planning to quest to 55 and then do cloth hand ins to get me to 60.
Then i'm going to plan leveling a duo straight from 1. I'm not sure what pair to use.

"slight" offtopic..
i am curious.
why do you only want lvl 59 with the hunter? pvp?
Bingo. I'm going to leave the hunter in PVP and grind all the marks and honor for the full 60 gear. Then when it's got all the tokens for the gear, ding to 60 and play AV. I'm going to use my pally as my Main Ally.
