Getting close to haveing 20,000 gold......which was originally planned on being spent for the flyers. But with the new speeds coming in the next patch, is it worth it? Plus, would /follow be a problem with epic flyers to begin?

Blow the money. Speed is really, really important and you'll make the gold up easily by doing dailies on faster flyers.

Plus you don't have to wait. :)

Follow isn't a problem, even with crusader aura on with my pally. By "isn't a problem" I mean it isn't that big a deal. I lose follow some if I fly erratically or am going through multiple phases in Icecrown or Storm Peaks, but with Jamba to warn me when one of my followers stops following it only cuts a few seconds off the journey.

Agreed. Unless your computer is teetering on the edge of running the game, ALWAYS buy the epic flyer.

As far as I know the epic flyers aren't changing prices anyway. The only thing is you may receive a small faction discount if you were exalted. So the difference is minimal. You might as well get your epics now and make gold faster from doing faster dailies and what not. The only significant cost changes are for those that don't have riding up thru 225. So if you haven't gotten a normal flyer and wanted to wait or an epic ground mount and wanted to wait.

If all your waiting for is epic flying then get it. It will be worth it.

It took me five months to get around to buying my epic flyers. Five months of doing dallies on slow ass mounts, it was painful. Blow the money on the flyers, then farm your 1200g a day on your epics in less than 90 minutes. You'll have all the money you need for enchants and gear, trust me.

I got 12 lv 80s all with epic fliers, yes it was a truck load of gold but wow was it worth it. If i actually wanted too i could get all 25 dailies done and be making 4500g a day in just a few hours from the speed the fliers give me. (I don't do this anymore because i already made my way back to 70k gold)

I don't like dailies, they feel too much like work to me. I only do the Jewelcrafting one. Beside, 90 minutes a day is often as much playtime as I get, and I don't want to use it doing dailies. My money is made in the Auction House (fast) or levelling alt groups (fun, to me).

In patch 3.2, regular flyers will get to 150% speed. That finished to convince me that my gold is better invested in other things than epic flyers.

Me too, although it'd be nice to have an idea as to how far off that is!

I have them on my Hunter/Druid team, but mainly because I use them for various gathering skills and I really wouldn't be without the epic flyers for those. Especially the Druid and Herbing.

I noticed background downloading of patch 3.1 -> 3.2 since yesterday. So I guess 3.2 should not be that far off anymore.

I'm also very much looking forward to being able to fly from level 60. Outland will be much more fun for my two last groups that are still there.

Well, if you like leveling alt groups (and questing I suppose) gold shouldn't be an issue. Am doing dailies for rep and stop doing them as soon as I hit exalted. Each team gets enough gold from those dailies and from completing northrend quests at lvl 80 to get the epic flying costs back + even more gold for BoE epics and stuff. You dont even have to do collection quest central (Grizzly Hills + Zul'drak) to get enough gold.

I really don't understand how someone is able to play this game without epic flying, even less if they multibox. Gold is so easy to get nowadays. My wife and I are sitting on 18 epic flyers so far, and as soon as 3.2 hits, each toon past lvl 60 will get flying skills too, it's way too good to ignore it.

I got there from Dalaran with normal gryphon, which I find much more convenient than having to drive myself. Granted, from the harbour to the instance portal, I must have lost a couple of seconds because of flying slow. I cleaned the instance (didn't get the cross-bow again, I still need two, grrrrrrrr !), then ported back to Dalaran, and logged off.

"Play" as in leveling past 77, doing dailies for rep (or Champion's Seals) and questing at 80. It's sooo much faster with epic flyers, it's well worth the gold. Want 3.2 now, cause I want to level my DK team with flyers in outlands, this will speed things up nicely too.

I blew 15,600g (ish) last week for epic flyers on my 3 shaman. Now I can make 1300g in about an hour/ hour and a half doing some lazy, half ass dailies in Icecrown.

Spend the cash, it's worth it. Less than a week after buying my 3 epics, and having 20g to my name, I'm back up to 7,600 ish less than a week later. And I don't even try hard to max out my dailies.

This is my thinking as well. Especially for my crusader aura! Will be fast enough for a while.

Ultimately, the answer to this question will vary from person-to-person, as witnessed by the responses we've already seen.

It basically depends on...

a) if you have the money and nothing better to spend it on, and...

b) the way you play

I've never done the daily round that everybody else seems to do, so I never have so much money lying around that I would want to shell out for yet another set of flyers.

The dailies just aren't fun to me so I don't do them. That means (a) doesn't apply to me. If it applies to you, that's great. Go for it.

That's not to say that I'm poor, by the way. I'm sitting on about 25 - 30k. I just don't have SO much lying around that I can spare 25k+ for the flyers.

As for (b) - well, since I don't religiously do dailies (and absolutely don't want to), I really don't spend much time travelling. I either fly to an instance on a regular gryph, queue for a battleground or wander around doing quests.

So, for me personally, with the way I play, the 150% speed we get with 3.2 will be more than adequate, and I can live with a combination of 100% land mounts and 60% flyers until then.

Now, if we weren't getting the 150% speed boost in a few months time then I expect I'd grit my teeth and do the dailies until I had enough cash to waste, just as I did last time around

It seems as if the patch is going to go live soon, so you probably want to wait. If it turns out that the 150% mount is fast enough for you, then you save money by not purchasing the epic skill level. If it turns out that the 280% mount is worth the money, then you will probably save some gold depending on your faction level. 280% flight speed versus 60% flight speed is clearly worth the money if you have it, IMO. I don't know about 150% versus 280%, and I won't know until the patch goes live. That may come down to personal preference, but I think either way you can gain something by waiting.

There's no right answer here.

My paladin and mage have an epic flier.

My priest, shaman, and warlock only have the loaner so can't even fly in many zones. ;)

My paladin is my gatherer (herbs/ores) and with crusader's aura its AWESOME. My mage is my current "main" for solo play. His epic flier is also AWESOME.

My other three toons are my Heroics group fillers and professionals (enchanting, tailoring, etc.).

I have all my toons hearthed to the Argent Tourney grounds. I hate dailies too but recently started to need gold. So, I do all the Argent Tourney dailies (not the goblin ones though) on the pally/mage and just the 2 jousting and 2 (nice double dip!) "kill scourge" with my 3. So, it works out to 24 dailies done in a few minutes. If that gets me someday to an extra 5k, I'll get another flier for my 3 laggards. Otherwise, the planned 150% fliers will be great for me and enough to consider taking my other 3 around Icecrown! :)

Net-net is my 3 non epic fliers..... don't fly much. I also don't feel the need for a ton of gold. So why get them epic'd now?
