Well, WoW has left me bored..........again.
So I re-upped my original AOC account and got 4 more. It's not nearly as multiboxer-friendly as WoW is, and reminds me of DAoC in how you had to "adapt"
I only rolled 5 accounts since the group makeup is 6, and I want to game with the wife.
My first group consists of:
2 Priests of Mitra
1 Necromancer
1 Demonologist
1 Tempest of Set
I picked that group makeup mainly for the AoE capabilities. Even only being at lvl 20, I'm finding the group to be really powerful. I'm sure once I get past 30, I get more AoE, and will be even more powerful.
A lot of bugs are fixed in the game now. The biggest one for me was the /follow command. It does work now, does not break during combat, and only has one bug so far that I've seen. When your toons are on follow and you're going over a hill, up a hill, or anything in the "up" direction, sometimes an alt can get "stuck" in the terrain. It's almost like the're knee-deep in the dirt. It's easily solved by jumping with your character, and with the large follow distance, it typically doesn't break unless I'm not paying attention.
The assist feature in the game is lacking though, which is why I decided on the AoE team. For assist to work, you have to target the player you want to assist first, and THEN hit the assist button. there is no /target <name> in the game, so you're left with a "target nearest enemy" as the best bet. That works 99% of the time. Sometimes I target the wrong thing, but I just learned to pull with my main and then AoE the mobs down if they get near me. With 3 healers in the group that also are AoE'ers, I rarely die.
They've also added more quests and additional zones to help fill the gaps. I have yet to see any of them, as they were mostly geared towards 30+.
Population in the game is pretty good, but I'm sure that's due to the massive server merges. The PvP servers now are just full of retards that clog up general chat. Probably just a bunch of kids yelling "BOOBIES!" as they play the game. I rerolled on a PvE server and it's actually much better.
Once you have/get a lvl50 on your account, you get another "free" level 50 character of your choice. I plan to take advantage of this should my group makeup suffer in any areas. I briefly tried a tank for my main, but found that mobs never made it close enough with single target attacks. Now that I'm AoE'ing, that may change and I might bring on a Conqueror (for combat rezzing) or Guardian for some tankage later on.
As for other multiboxing quirks, I'm glad I wrote my mouse broadcasting program with all the ground target spells. I miss certain things like Jamba, but having something different to play is a nice tradeoff. Also since you can't "/target <name>" in the game, and the group list is alphabetical, as your group changes, who you target might change with your F1-F6 keys.
I'm writing another program geared specifically towards AoC and the mechanics of the gameplay. This includes ground targeting, following, assisting, etc. I've already ran an early test version and it helped out quite a bit. As I see a need, I just write in a function into the program and restart it. The biggest help was allowing a customizable config that allows me to specify what key triggers mouse broadcasting so as I get new spells, I just have to change the config file and reload it.
Anyhow, it's something to keep me busy until SWTOR comes out. I'll also try Aion I'm sure.
