Really cool stuff as it talks about voiceovers in the game

i was watching it, the ingame footage is pretty cool.

i was a little worried at first, with the huge amount of hype this game is getting, afraid it wasnt going to live up to it.
but the more and more i see footage, i might just come close to pulling it off.

Looks interesting. I'm not digging the whole "Horde Vs. Alliance" rip off though.

I wish starwars good luck. So many have tried and failed to take the crown.

2 Factions, mutually exclusive based on character selection, PvP between them...

lol. Not even going to the fact that they were movies before, Star Wars Galaxies was out before WOW.

I can not even begin to tell you how stoked I am for this game. WOW will be a distant memory if SWTOR turns out to be a half decent game. I never even left SWG untill they brought the NGE around and that decison was ony partially based on the horrid gameplay. Most of my decision was based of SOE's backhandedness

hehe, "could you try doing the Darth Maul thing, but sort of with the Welsh thing?"

I'm looking forward to it too. I'm not even half a Star Wars fan but this looks really slick. WAR and Conan weren't able to tear me away from WoW, but this looks like it might!

(just please, don't make me play some Jedi wanker. I want to be Force-agnostic)

To be fair, SWG didn't have faction selection on character creation. Although my reaction was the same "WTF does he mean WOW ripoff?"

Pippin
07-20-2009, 04:14 PM
True. It didn't, but I haven't seen anything that SWTOR would be based off of character creation and I hope they don't. I like to idea of being able to jump factions and/or just be nuetral. That is my problem with WOW. I litterally could give two damns which faction I am. I like playing horde becuase I like the models better, but I play Horde and Alliance on the same server. Human males running anyone? lol. I am sure that there are those that care as much as I do about Star Wars.

Shame about the hero's action movie, straight off the menu, Master Chief delivery. All I hear is "Sherpa derpa.....derpa herka......." a la Gary in Team America. It sounds so voice-by-numbers it's a turnoff for me now.

Would rather they STFU and stick to text given the alternative.

"I will kill you, but that's just what I do........let's roll". That's how it feels to me - if you're going to change the rules, change the fucking tune while you're at it. If it's just going to be cheese-by-numbers I'd rather just read the text and click.

This is going to be a very challenging game to produce and balance. It's easy if Jedi aren't a class, but we all know that won't be happening. If Jedi are a class it'll be a big lightsaber fest and the alliance population will be 100x the sith (that's what happened with SWG as well). You really can't make a pvp game with 1) an imbalanced class (hero+), and 2) grossly imbalanced populations.

I think the voiceovers will be very fun and immersive for your first character, but character 5, and doing the same quest for rep or xyz, it'll be highly annoying.

I'd be very in to a Star Wars MMO done well. I'd like to see a little Tie Fighter brought in with vehicular space battles. That would be epic and immersive, but I don't really think enough players will be willing to play Sith to make PvP the fun it could be.

The only thing wrong with this game is that it's going to be a massive lollightsabers fest.

Screw the jedi, bounty hunters are where its at... and thats the way i like it uh huh uh huh i like it!

Have any of you played the KotOR games? I obsessively played both 1 and 2 many times through. I definitely played the hell out of 2. I remember one day I was home sick with the flu and managed to finish the game and was blown away. Even though everyone complains that the 2nd was buggy, finished early, crapping ending, unpolished, blah blah blah, it was still amazing to me. The gaming experience while playing the KotOR games easily matched my experience when I played Phantasy Star IV, Final Fantasy 7, and Shadowrun (genesis).

I'm almost positive no other game made me laugh as much as KotOR 2.

One question... Can we multibox that game? I played swg and would be interested in another star wars mmo. SWG turned into shit so I left.

I liked KOTOR 1 and 2.. i liked the stories and i liked the combat / character building.

I dont get how you can make a star wars game and have people playing as non jedis.

Either the jedis are weak so as to balance them with other character classes, or the other classes are stupid powerful, or the game is imbalanced. Which then takes the fun out of being a jedi. Donno.

At any rate, I wish theyd stop announcing games so far in advance. I want 6 months of hype, tops.

Down with the Jedi's, go go go Bounty Hunter!! :D I suppose it's really just a Batman vs. Superman argument. I don't see why they can't make non-Jedi's justifiably powerful.

Hehe thats true Heff,

Though arguably Luke was still a noob at that point, eh? Been a while since ive seen the movies.. anyways.

So now we have several million boba fetts and several million skywalkers. Them's some pretty hefty troops. How are they going to get players to play the scout class, the trooper or healing classes when you can be bobba fett or darth maul? Bioware makes great games....it'll be interesting to see what they concoct.

If you read any of the starwars books that followed return of the jedi or clone wars books. Jedi might have lots of cool powers but they can still be hit with a blaster bolt in the back of the head. Look at the purges, noobie clone troopers tookout most of the jedi in a matter of minutes.

Malekyth

The movies were written with Jedi protagonists in mind. In the power fantasy that is Star Wars, of course the Jedi are the baddest buggers around. In a Star Wars MMO, the fantasy is written from everyone's perspective! So a Trooper will have to be as much of a bad-ass as the every one of the six hundred extremely rare and precious Jedi knights who live in his apartment building, but in a different way, and the Jedi will just have to live with that. It's not a brilliant shifting of reality, but it goes some way to justifying a balanced game even before the developers take their necessary mechanical liberties.
