View Full Version : More Anti-Boxer Content in 3.2

Well, having just read some intial impressions of the new dungeon being opened up in 3.2 (Trial of the Crusader), our worst fears have been realized:
More vehicles in dungeons and raids X(
Worst of all, they are used AGAIN in the very first encounter, meaning if you can't get past the very significant challenge of running 5/10 vehicles at once you are out of luck in seeing the rest of the content.
With Ulduar it only affected a 10-man raid (and there aren't that many of us crazy enough to be 10-boxers), but now it looks like it will affect the new 5-man content as well (meaning many/most of you will be screwed as well).
It really sucks being locked out of two patch's worth of new dungeon content for the sake of some vehicle encounters, especially since every non-boxer I have talked to has said they are pretty stupid, so easy they are boring, and are basically just a waste of time. I can't figure out why Blizzard would introduce such a radically different set of gameplay than we've experienced, learned about, or practiced during the first 80 levels of our character's development then make it mandatory for access to the rest of new content... twice in a row.
Disclaimers:
Yes, I know that one 10-boxer DID get past the first vehicle-based boss in Ulduar at least once, but how many of the rest of us have been successful at it?
No, we don't know all the details - maybe the first boss in the 3.2 dungeon will actually be boxable in regular mode, so it is too soon to say for certain that the entire new dungeon content is off-limits for us, but read the details - it doesn't sound good.
I'm usually very positive and upbeat on things, but this has me pretty discouraged.
See the description for the new 3.2 dungeon content here (spoilers inside):

Dont worry yourself too much about it merc. this is the way things have to go. right now there testing vehicles with easy encounters, they have to be easy as no ones had much experiance in vehicles, once people(boxers included) start to get used to them the enounters will get harder but with harder encounters usualy come the in game tools to help with them (assist macro, decurse mods etc) and its at that point boxers will start to see the benefit.

who knows, from reading that it might be zergable. All five toons nailing them with the shieldbreaker charging and attacking might insta gib them.
nolife posted a video of the encounter from the ptr here ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&postID=215639&highlight=#post215639') . its not boxers but you can see what its all about. i personally do not like the jousting combat even solo. it just seems uninspired to me, but we'll see where they take it. i just hope the 25 man dungeon isnt ruined with it.

"Anti-boxer" seems a dramatic label. That suggests intent.
Anyways, I hope the instance is fun (vehicles or not).

I remember people saying the same thing about Oculus and "Aces High!" among others. We all adapted. ;)

If its anything like the mounts you ride for the dailies, then it shouldn't be too bad.

I doubt blizzard don't sit down and design instances on how difficult it will be to multibox.

if they leave the difficulty level of the 5 man first encounter (vehicle fight) where it is, it'll be fine. It's completely doable as a multiboxer. It's completely trivial now for a normal group though (more difficult to box, 1 char always seems to get focused so he loses all his shield charges but not impossible) so I would expect they might tune up the encounter some. If they do ratchet it up I'll probably just get one of the other multiboxers to run their tank with my shamans, and I'll do the same - then have the tank kiting the main hard hitting dudes on the first encounter while zerging the adds.
For those that haven't seen it normal mode is pretty much killing 1 commander 3 lts (like in the daily) in waves (same argent mount mechanics). It is zergable. Heroic might be zergable too, but I died pretty horribly trying to - only made a couple attempts though. You can hop off your horse and grab a new one at any time and (most of the time) it resets/reduces the agro on whatever is currently attacking that person.

I'd be extremely disappointed if we didn't learn to adapt :) and by we I mean everyone but me, I'm not a raider :P

If you're a 4 or 5 boxer and can't get past Flame Leviathan in Ulduar10, you're doing something VERY wrong. It's not hard at all, and you can basicly 5-man it without using exploits. Ofcause you won't be able to manage it hardmode, but you can get past it. I've done it without any troubles, but haven't continued, tho. It might require some friends that knows what they're doing, but that should be doable aswell. Another factor is your item level, which determines your damage and health of your vehicle, which means you can't do this is green gear.

I can't tell you how much I hate vehicles in this game. If I had the chance I would punch the guy who thought it up in the face. They are so stupid and it feels like a Nintendo 64 game from ages past using them. I will never understand why blizzard has a hard on for these POS vehicles. They look like shit, move like shit, and add no fun to the game for me. I am not speaking as a boxer because I hate them just as much playing 1 toon. I feel like a handicap guy in a wheel chair at the special Olympics every time I use one of them. No offense to the handicap.
I like vehicles - but the interface that WoW uses is so clunky. It could have been done so much better.
Feels rushed honestly.one word...Activision.

So many good points in this thread, I had to reply and add my own.

<-- multiboxes Jousting Mounts =PIndeed. Unless they make one horse a healer and another a tank, it should be very similar to what you and I do every day. I forgot to quote the zerg-bomb strat, but it applies.
How many active raiders are out there in the boxing community? (not many)/raises hand

I haven't been a keyboard turner since May of... fuck, idk the year, but it was the first one. But getting back in a vehicle felt like I was on Novocain.
I've got my team copied over and my dailies are all already done for today's reset (late night) hopefully I can find a few PUGs on the PTR to give it a go.

I've found a few of the vehicles where follow just will not work.
With most of them, my targettarget system will allow me to follow my current target.
With a few, I have to use Focus to follow, but can follow my focus.
With some, follow just will not work.
Running one toon 50 feet or 200 or whatever.
Then go to the next window and repeat.
Then the next window and repeat.
Then the next window and repeat.
Then the 5th window and repeat.
Then the first window and 200 more feet.
Then the...
A piece of shit design, whoever implemented thse.

Flame Leviathan is free loot if you have high ilvl gear. We 4 man it every week with alts in mostly ilvl 213 stuff, and even 2 manned it before in ilvl 232/226 gear. It should be trivial to 10 or even 5-box in 3.2 with Conquest badge gear out of 5 mans. Gear scaling gives you average ilvl-170 in % increase so if you're in full 226 gear that's x1.56 more damage, do the math and you'll see he dies in like 60-70s tops. Relentless PvP gear and the new badge/raid gear is ilvl 245 or 75% more damage!
Some guildmates tried the new 5 man on PTR and said it's a super easy fight (if really buggy right) so I have hopes that clearing it 5-box will be doable with the proper strategy.

friends were asking why I wasn't trying to get attuned for the new 5x man....
my first question was do I have to do it mounted on anything?
the answer is yes so why bother then.
top it off you have to solo box the jousting daily so again, why bother.

You don't have to solo box any of the Tourney dailies. The jousting quests, right in the fair grounds, can be done with your alts assisting the character doing the quest. It can take less then 30 minutes to do both the valiant and the champion version for all 5 toons. The kill quests, Battle Before The Citadel and At The Enemy's Gates can be done together. Just assist your focus or main, throw the javelin and charge. The Tourney valiant and champion quests work really well together and don't take long at all.
30 days later you have 4-5 titles, quite a bit of gold and access to enough mounts to get an albino drake. Honestly the jousting is really quite fun to box. I enjoy setting up the commanders right in front of my 4 clones and "one" shotting them with 4 charges!

I can get my alts to follow me on the jousting mounts.. but how do you go about jousting with them all at the same time? I always have my guys near me when i do each one. But they don't get credit unless they start the joust.

Ok, I spent some quality time searching.. I thought I read a post awhile back with someone explaining HOW to box the jousting dailies ( the ones on the grounds ) I can easily box the one where you kill the commander and lieutenants. But even with the opponent targeted with all my alts..ONLY the one who speaks to the npc can attack him.
Can you please explain exactly how you box these? Ive tried everything I can think of. Spending less time with these quests would make this grind sooo much more enjoyable. Thanks in advance!

Don't have the alts mounted, they can do normal DPS on the champion, that's what I do, I just rotate through who's on the horse, my record is 11 mins for all 20 kills (5 chars x 4 kills).

I haven't checked it myself, but sometimes when I'm fighting, another person would attack my champion normally (not with a joust). So maybe only 1 toon fighting him with joust but the other toons attack him normally without any horse?

Action was never taken against Flame Leviathan killing accounts based solely on the number of players present during the fight.
Sorry to derail the topic a bit, but I found that whole banning incident quite interesting, and hadn't heard about it before.
Anyway.... gimmicky vehicle encounters suck! There. I made it on-topic again.

I am in the same boat. You cannot have all your toons challenging the same guy for the daily jousting quest. I have not tried to make my guys who are waiting attack with normal attacks. That would be a great time saver.

I did this for a while, except in my case I was 10-boxing so I could have 9 dudes normal attacking my one mounted guy's opponent. Still, doing this for all my guys got extremely tedious very quickly. I'm honestly not impressed with anything about the Argent Tournament - lots of non-boxable dailies, stupid vehicles that are basically a slower, dumber way to play, long distance travel for no reason.
Overall, I've come to the conclusion this is all a big time waste. The only things that interest me at all about it (and why I started it) are the chest heirloom items and maybe the white/orange hippogryph. Then Stealthy told me the chest heirloom items are purchasable with Emblems (woot!) so I decided to use my pre-patch 3.2 time on more exciting things in-game, as well as another time waster, at least on one of my teams: the Netherwing rep grind, which will net me cooler mounts in about the same time.

I hated the Tourney, then I accepted it, then I hated it again, then I figured out some macros and liked it for the first time ever! -- then I did it a few more times and meh, it's OK. The part that I still like is Battle Before the Citadel, where multiboxing Argent mounts really is pretty fun. I help out whomever happens to be whittling away at a commander, and take great joy in the mighty fivefold charge (which tends to leave me with five toons spread out over an in-game quarter-mile, but it's worth it). Chillmaw is OK, a 23g*5 daily within spitting distance of Shadow Hold, so no problem there. The duels take far more time than they're worth but I'm still doing them out of sheer bloody-minded OCD, I think, i.e. if I do *any Argent quests, I feel compelled to do *all Argent quests ...
