Does anyone know anything about Champions Online ('www.champions-online.com') ?

Was just looking for new MMO to play/box (getting bored with wow) and found this one. It looks really good, it is said to be coming out Sept 1 this year.

Next generation of the City of Heroes/Villains? Same developer (Cryptic).

After the Hellgate fiasco, I wouldn't touch anything that Bill Roper was involved with!

I Just hope Keyclone will work with it. I am really burnt on wow. And the Martial arts actions in Champions really draws me in.

City of Heroes has special 'anti-botting' code that interferes with software keyboard broadcasting making it difficult to multibox unless you use a hardware only solution.

I'd be surprised if Champions Online and Star Trek Online (same developer) didn't feature something similar.

Hi I am dual boxing Champions in there open beta and things I've noticed:

You can open multiple clients on one computer but Keyclone does not work. I didn't try other programs maybe somebody will find something in future but for the time being you can only hardware box.

Boxing in the game is good because the follow function in the game is awesome. Your toons will auto follow in combat, even after zoning and even after you die and resurrect. Also the follow distance is quite far.

Lots of quest I have done so far gave my other toon credit as well which is definitely time saving.

The game gives bonus xp for grouping.

Total customization for powers can really make your team very powerful even if you are only boxing 2 toons because you can tailor choose your powers.

Hope this helps any potential gamers thinking to box Champions Online, it goes live Sept 1 so only a week left to go :)

Champions comes out in a week? Interesting.

Looks awesome, if they can pull off the custom plot/villain thing. Too bad its going to fall flat on its ass for lack of hype.

I've been trying to contact them but I can't even open a ticket right now. Looks like their ticketing system has been down all week.

I played the open beta for a bit... for me, a very similar feel to CoH (as you would expect).

It was fun but didnt seem like anything that could hold my attention for too long (which is why I wont be getting it).

I've bought a lifetime subscription and I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that Cryptic will keep it together. Last day of the open beta is today and I've enjoyed playing. It's a lot like City of Heroes but with better questing/missions, and it was the poor quest systems in CoH that stopped me playing that game.

Animation isn't as good as CoH, overall looks are better, gameplay feels a bit clunky but I'm sure it will get better, and I enjoyed playing Hellgate as well.

Hopefully they're onto a winner.

Edit: Won't be multiboxing it though.

There are some really strong support classes that you can create, but you don't really need any help to do 99% of the stuff.

Yep, it is a fun game. I don't imagine it will ever take a ton of my game time away from WoW, but they have definitely done a lot of stuff right. There are a number of things that are much better than the WoW equivalent:

- Character creation
- /follow - works from one end of the zone to another!
- Quest completion - if someone else is near you and they complete the quest, you usually get credit
- Character naming - name your toon anything you want, even if there are already 18 "Indigo Girl" toons out there, you can still name yours the same! No more weird characters just to get the names "Earth", "Wind", and "Fire"
- One world, heavily instanced, but you can always play with your friends (not 208 different servers like WoW)
- Flight from level 5 on (or whatever travel power you want)
- Select your new abilities as you level, then try them out in the "Powerhouse" before you get stuck with them (swap them out free withoutthe respec cost if you don't like them)
- No classes - take a power from any power set you like at almost any time or follow a theme - your choice

But along with the good there is some bad:
- Documentation - there is none - is this abiltiy good or bad for your build - total guess
- No software boxing
- Not much support for macros

Defintely worth a look for $50 in my humble opinion. Very different feel from WoW makes it a nice side-hobby.
