View Full Version : Explain please :)
Hi im realitivly new to MB'ing. That said i see everyone asking for help with cast sequance and no chanel and other macros that i dont use. I curently have 4 29' shamans and i just use /assist focus /cast Lightningbolt(rank1) or w/e. But i see others with alot more complicated macros. What should i be using for casting spells and just explain the basics of what other shamans use macro wise
Thanks

just started my 5boxing shamans and for me the only things I use cast sequence for are healing and totems that dont stack (ie casting 5x stoneskin totems is pointless waste of mana) for damage spells I just have a macro with an /assist in it and I have lightning bolt and earth shock (all I have atm) bound to the same key on all shamans.
/threadjack btw I dunno if your name is from this or not but I have one of these in my living room, still fully functional :)

lol how funny is that. I just watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 last night. Ahh good old times.
Cast sequence is a macro that will only advance when the next spell in the list is successfully cast.
/castsequence chain lightning; lightning bolt, healing wave
this will cast chain lightning the first time you hit it then lighting bolt the second then healing wave the third. then it will cast chain lightning, then lightning bolt, etc it's like having 1 button do something diffrent each time you push it.
You should read the sticky macro codex at the top of this section it will help you understand macros ALOT better.
You can limp through alot without macros that are too extravagent but the goal is to play 5 toons as close to as well as 5 people would with extream coordination. what good is 5 nukes on the same target if it takes you 6 seconds to get the cast off. You would be dead before anything can happen in PvP.
I try to tweek my macros to compensate for things that are 5x dangerous in PvP like the delay when you pick a target send thst to the server then you an attack on your clones. Well slow heals are useless so you should have a key to heal each of your toons by name so that you don't have to target them and wait when time is what you don't have. why spend the time to cast healing wave when you can cast 4 lesser healing waves in half the time for more healing?
Read the sticky up top and if you have any more questions reply and we can hook you up. Welcome to the forums, have fun and good luck.

for fun I created my own personal 'pewpew' macro using rank 1 lighnting bolt. What it does is have an alternate cast sequence with gaps so that each shaman casts one in succession. So I can spam the macro button and get a constant stream of little lightning bolts, its not really useful just looks freaking sweet lol. My 3rd hdd and extra ram arrived today so ill see if I can fraps it :D
The macro codex sticky and the http://www.wowwiki.com/HOWTO:_Make_a_Macro page are excellent sources for learning the basics on making macros and cast sequences.
Oh one other thing I found is that you will want to build in a reset to them even if you dont think you will need it. Due to lag it will sometimes skip sequences on me and the next time I hit the key I will get duplicate casts thus wasting mana. Currently all my totem macros have a reset=60 so after 60 seconds it will reset, might make it less like 30-45 depending on how things go.
The problem with time resets like reset=60 is it starts the count over each time you hit the button so a 60 second macro won't actualy reset unless you leave it be for 60 seconds. It's best to have either a reset=target or reset=combat on your macro. But he'll have a real hard time understanding what the hell we are talking about til he goes read the codex.
After that just make a test macro and play around till you understand thisng a little better then build from there. If a complex macro dosen't work right, take it apart and try the parts one at a time to find the broken part fix it them put it back together. it's quite enjoyable when you finaly write your first complex macro and it works and does what you want and it saves you like 4 keys that you can use for something else. It alos saves you macros which are in short supply.

that is why i only use it on my totems. But then I havent gotten to an instancing level yet so at that point I will probably drop the time down to atleast 45s, maybe 30 depending on how often I need them. And this is only for the totems that dont stack so it doesnt matter if it doesnt reset really because I will only ever need 1.

Well i started off 3 boxing then upgraded to 4 and my freind already had a shaman named after Splinter so i took that. Ill just pay 25 bucks and rename him. Way to lazy to level another one up lol
