Hello,
my boss and me just had a strange / good idea.
What about using a HUGE (30+) TV and Maximizer to run 5 WOW windows?
I have not experiance with this but maybe the resolution will be a problem?

Resolution will suck. Thats whats gimped it.
You can however buy a 30" LCD Monitor which would have a huge resolution. Problem is they dont come cheap ;-)

Uhhhhhh  *drool*
6 30" LCD on 3 PCs =)
Naaaaahhhh! I stick with my plan of one 22" and 5 19"

Good idea sir ;-)
<--- 6 30" on ONE PC :)
The thing I love the most is when people name drop their "HUGE" plasma and how a 50" or a 70" is gigantic. Then they run regular DVDs on it (which run at 720 x 480 (assuming NTSC). That is a third of a megapixel! A SINGLE 30" can display over EIGHT DVDs at the same time at native resolution!!! Why the heck would you want to blow that up to 50"?? Even with hardware filtering and smoothing - there is not enough physical information available to render a high resolution movie.
MAYBE if you are running HDTV but even then... the 30" DL DVIs blow that out of the water. Assume you have progressive scan HDTV (many are still interlaced, meaning you lose half of the vertical signal) - but assume you get the highest quality HDTV TV - 1080p - this is still "only" 1920x1080, so 2,073,600 pixels (2 megapixels). The 30" DL DVIs run at 2560 x 1600, or
4,096,000 (4 megapixels). And they are 30" - not 50"+.
So even if you had a 70" plasma or what have you.... what is the point when you only need something like a 21" screen to show that in native resolution? Anything else is just upscaled.
Seriously.

First, Xzin! You are crazy!! =)
And I mean that as a good thing.
Second, you totally convinced me.
I still don't want to spend the money on 6 30' TFTs but the stupid idea of a huge HDTV plugged to my pc is gone now =)

Pics or they don't really exist!
;
Okay, I'm sure they exist, but give us something to drool over.
Pics?

Not mine. But those are 30" screens, powered by 3 computers.
To get a sense of scale, those neon fans behind the missing final screen are CASE FANS.

I still find it odd that Xzin is STILL taunting us with potential images of his setup.... only to dash our hopes by using pictures from various other places. Xzin is a nerd tease :P

LOL... too funny.
That or I would prefer to use the images and hype / mania (?) / outlandishness of my setup to advertise an up coming business of mine.
Why waste the opportunity :)

It would be cool to have a nice ass huge TV with bad ass resolution so you can MB. To bad they suck with the res.. Hey why not spend 75k and get yourself a 100inch hah.
I would buy a 100" if they had, oh say 40 megapixel resolution and many, many inputs.....
But nothing can drive it.
And imagine the yields given bad pixels......

any idea when you are going to present said upcoming business?
Because I'm fairly certain that I speak for all of us when I say, "we'd love to see your setup."

Yeah.. show us already :)
Patience :)
I will be moving in Jan(ish) and I intend to document the old build very well before updating it at my new place. So it will still be a few months.
I do have pics of the build though and a huge writeup already finished.
10 foot ceilings = win.

wow... now is it that well documented in order for your business purposes, or is it so you know hoe to put it back together again? :P
and you realize that most people dont worry about ceiling height. That is just reserved for the people with a combined monitor size of ~84in.

I documented it in order to have a writeup and basic guide as to what I did.
And I very much realize that most people don't give a hoot about ceiling height :)
And it would not be a problem except I want to recline AND use my monitor array. And the monitor array needs to be electrically articulated.
There isn't enough clearance unless I sit almost right on the floor. Which negates the leg rests that I added to the 7 series BMW seat.
I need to find a better input system than a mouse and keyboard though. It is hard to use those "laying down". As I have detailed in other (now buried) posts about this subject.
Yes, I am acutely aware that your average person is perfectly fine with a $20 chair from Wal-mart and a crappy reconstituted chip wood desk.
Not to be all high and mighty but I am not your average person and I have somewhat unique needs that cannot be properly addressed with an off the shelf solution in this case.

No, I am completely behind you as far as the completely custom "office" goes.
I am currently one of those people with a crap chipboard desk and I really would completely customize my office, however I do not own our current house, so it would be far too much work to create something that will quite probably be obsolete within a year or two. Once we build our house then the sky is the limit.
is your monitor array attached to your seat in some fashion in so that when you recline the monitors "tilt" with you?
Also did you wind up keeping all of the electrical components to the seat hooked up, such as the heated seats?
I'm sure this is an obvious yes, but is the desk custom built as well? I'm sure you've posted it before, so I appreciate your time in answering.

Even though I don't rent, I designed everything to be modular, removable and not damage the property. It took 3 people 2 days to put it up though :)
It is not attached to the seat. It has independent controls to adjust the seat (18+ adjustments) and the monitors (height, width, tilt). The monitors themselves are suspended by a rather elaborate framework for safety reasons.
I "kept" the electrical components in so much as they all work (memory, 3 level heated seats, etc) but I added a few parts (leg rests) and had to rebuild much of the car's "brain" to get everything working together. As an example, it needed a signal from the speedometer to enable heated seats. Go figure.
The desk was custom made out of aluminum honeycomb.

you have no idea how much time you potentially saved me in regards to the heated seats needing a signal from the speedometer.
I've been looking at doing something like this for quite some time, now the hardest part would be finding a seat that I deem comfortable enough.
Go for a 1997ish - 2002ish Porsche, 3 Series BMW (heated is not built in) or Mercedes seat.
Do some research first but the 7 series seat memory and heated seat controls are NOT physically on the seat (they are on the door and center console). Hence the need for the speedo, several other modules, extensive wiring, etc. It gives me flexibility but at the cost of added complexity.
Buy a seat that actually has those built in to the seat or they likely will not work when you plug them into 12 VDC.
They will *move* but my seats memory and heat did not.
Also think about mounting them securely. Otherwise you sit on the floor.
Lastly, it is easy to retrofit on/off heated seats to nearly any make / model.

I recently upgrade my 19" lcd monitor to a 40" lcd hdtv widescreen, I noticed some talk about the resolution sucking but I haven't noticed anything unbearable. Everything is pretty clear and I thoroughly enjoy playing on it.
I am currently running it on 1360x768 resolution and i was wondering if i could go any higher or anything i could do to get an even clearer picture.
Like i said everything looks pretty good but i think theres always ways to improve things :)
I was thinking a higher performance vga cable might effect it too.
Although i am not a dual boxer, atm. I have great interest in what you guys do here and check the forums at least twice a week to check up on things :)

I have not experiance with this but maybe the resolution will be a problem? One of the setups I play with regularly has a single 24" Widescreen display which I'm using without too much problem, the layout I ended up doing was splitting the two most important characters (tank and healer) vertically over the top 3/5 of the screen, and relegating the three DPS characters to a vertical split over the bottom 2/5 of the screen. It seemed to work well enough, despite me being the type of player to go insane with button bars all over the place.

Hey my parents have a 52" tv and so while they were out i dinner i hooked up my desktop to it. ok im really bad with the technical terms.. so i shall describe.
i took a cord that went from my vid card its [its not the blue plug but the white one:/ it has the bunch of dots and the cross type thing on one side of the plug.] anyways the other side of the cord looked like a retarded usb it was thinner but a little longer i believe. and i was able to get a crazy resolution on that. it was crazy clear and i was able to make the icons on there the same size as on my 19" which is running at 1600ish by 1200ish
anyways i definately should have tried running wow on that... shucks

um... i think it's used for the newer graphics cards to get higher resolutions or something...
i have one, but i use it to plug my computer into my 40" widescreen TV to watch movies :)
if only my rig wasn't so loud...

Im currently debating building a new rig. Even going with dual monitors. A normal person could not even attempt to imagine or justify a setup like yours. But believe it or not, hearing you talk about your setup makes it a lot easier for me to say, screw it! Some people get it, some people don't, but I like it, its fun, and Im going to enjoy the ride.
The funniest part is if Normal People can't understand what I do for a living, then why in the world would I expect them to understand my hobbies? Like yourself I'm not normal, and Unlike yourself I dont mind sounding High and Mighty, cause gosh darn it, I call em like I see em!

Blue one is analogue VGA
White one is DVI (Digital Video Interface).
I think that with the right adapter cable, you could connect the DVI output from your graphics card directly into the HDMI input on your HD-TV and use the higher resolutions (1920x1080).
If you connect your computer to a VGA input on your TV, if it has one, then you'll probably be limited to quite low resolutions (720x480 for NTSC and 768x576 for PAL)

yes indeed, HDMI uses the same system as DVI-D for transmission of video... HDMI also has audio of course
