View Full Version : Need some IS help
Yes I am switching between IS and keyclone right now (if you noticed my KC post just a short time ago).
PiP on IS rules, however, I'm having some major issues when using IS that are severely affecting being able to play sometimes. Not sure if I need to post this on the forums there but I have a hard time reading the small green text on black there.
1) Not a huge deal but I could never get keyclone working while using IS for my window management so had bite the bullet and learn how to use Toolkit before I could use IS. Having done so the combinations and configuration in IS is incredible but does take a lot of set up. I'm still considering using keyclone and IS so would like to find out how to get it to work.
2) One or two of my 5 windows just lock up, the graphics and environment seem ok, I can see updates on my screen but I can't move nor change my camera angle, I can't input anything, etc. The lockup on that toon lasts for about 1-2 minutes then it's fine.
3) Chat from earlier is resent. Occasionally I get chat that I had typed 30 minutes previous be resent all by itself to one of my windows.
4) A couple of times have gotten an error from wow that a protected part of wow has been attempted to be accessed or called. Unfortunately I did not get a SS of it but will next time so I do not have the exact error. This one alone scares the hell out of me as I've put a lot of time into my toons and do not want a ban for something I did not intend to do. I have never gotten these errors except when running IS.
5) No key "pause" built in like keyclone makes it harder up front to configure and I'm curious on the system impact of frequently loading and unloading keymaps via hotkey, could that be contributing to the freezeups and other problems? I get whispers all the time and chat in guild, etc.
Thanks,
X

Have you gone through the post in my signature? (New as of this week.)
It addresses 1 and 5.
2 - a key is getting "stuck" somehow, ctrl, alt, shift. Tap those when it happens next time and watch it free up immediately.
3 - enter/shift-arrows will do this. Possibly a UI error.
4 - Thats from a UI mod.

What feature of keyclone are you looking to use when doing this? IS makes it pretty redundant. I have both but since I started using IS I haven't loaded up kc, so not much help here I'm afraid.
2) One or two of my 5 windows just lock up, the graphics and environment seem ok, I can see updates on my screen but I can't move nor change my camera angle, I can't input anything, etc. The lockup on that toon lasts for about 1-2 minutes then it's fine.
Are you running xfire by chance? It completely screws over wow instances running with IS for me now (doing what you describe), not sure when it stopped working - I don't usually load xfire but it worked fine a month ago.
3) Chat from earlier is resent. Occasionally I get chat that I had typed 30 minutes previous be resent all by itself to one of my windows.
No help there, have never had this issue
4) A couple of times have gotten an error from wow that a protected part of wow has been attempted to be accessed or called. You should be able to find an error log in your wowdir/errors, without seeing the actual error it's hard to say, but I haven't had this issue with IS.

I turn on/off my keymaps all the time with no adverse effects, although I do agree that the system that you have to use for this is a bit clumsy, once you figure out what you are doing it works out alright though. WTB actual pause button.
Thanks guys, I'll check out your post Zanthor. I had 3 keymaps, one with common keybinds for follow, mounting, dismounting, etc. one for normal battle mode and a third that gets activated with a button and turns off the other 2. When I go back with another key it turns the common binds and shamans binds back on and turns itself off.
I looked for errors logged and could not find anything recent in any of my error folders so I'll keep an eye out for the next time it happens and hopefully also get a screencap.
Thanks again,
X
p.s. - The reason for wanting to using keyclone in IS is that I've been using it for so long it's comfortable and works well for passing keys while I refine and tweak my keymaps.

Funny I was going to post on this very subject.
I recently went from 5pcs/Keyclone to running all 5 on a new I7 pc. I tried using keyclone which has been absolutely solid for the 2 years or so I have been using it for networked key broadcasting but for the life of me I can never get the Maximizer thing to work reliably-any time a screen loses focus, it drops from Keyclone and will not manually add back until I restart that instance of wow. This led me about 6 months ago to check out Innerspace/ISBoxer.
I dont know what happened, but I used IS on a spare machine to run 2 wow instances and was a thing of beauty with fast window changes, the "internal" macros-freeing up a ton of buttons, and what not.
So anyway, I move to 1 machine/5 wow instances and no matter what I do, some function randomly stops, never works at all or doesnt work as I intend. Dont get my comments wrong, IS is absolutely awesome and most likely my troubles lie with my configuration or setup files.
I have been having the following issues since moving to 5 windows -
***Random windows stop receiving keystrokes
***All 5 wow windows will load on top of each other on 1 monitor- I have it set to 1 main region (1680x1050) on main display and 4 840x525 regions on 2nd display - I can start it 5 times and it will load correctly maybe twice if I am lucky
***Hotkey for screen switching will switch to different windows instead of 1 (I can press CTRL-ALT-1 for slot 1, but slot 3 will switch, I press same key again and slot 1 will switch or 2 (very rare but when happens you gotta restart everything)
*** A random screen will freeze after switching back from main screen-cant do anything at all, no mouse, keyboard and screen is blurry- will stay frozen for 2-10 min, then everything will fast forward to real time --usually happens with issue above
*** Randomly it appears that a key is stuck somewhere (ex. trying to select a quest reward but it shows the dressing room-as if CTRL key is pressed-macros wont work because of a SHIFT key is pressed but is not-can use fine in chat
(PC is CoreI7 920, 12GB Ram, GTX280 Video-drivers latest 186.18, Vista x64, 2-22" LCDs)
I have re-read every setup post I could find here, trying to mirror any config presented, as well as re-watching the setup videos a dozen or so times, checking Lavish software forums etc.
Like I said, I used IS for 2-3 wows for a long time and had 0 issues with the basic operation, I have only started having problems when I moved to 5.
I thought maybe it was my computer, I have reinstalled Wow, IS and ISBoxer completely, even bought another G-15 keyboard thinking the keys were getting stuck. I have tried so many things trying to fix all this that I have most likely made it worse than it originally was - lol
I dont want this post to necessarily shine a bad light on IS as I love it (well not so much lst few days) and in my opinion, nothing available can come close to the functionality.
That's a bug with Repeater being enabled when switching away from a given window.
To minimize the issue:
1. Don't play with Repeater enabled in general -- Key Maps do not exhibit the same issue and do not require Repeater to be enabled
2. If you must play with Repeater enabled in general, you can disable Repeater when switching windows
3. You can use Repeater hotkeys that enable "Current Window" instead of "All Windows"
I need to do more testing on this issue to find the code that causes the bug
Thanks for the info Lax, I do have repeater rules so that I can /use {item} or /cast astral recall, etc. on all windows.
So will enabling repeater for current window allow repeat to all windows from only that one window? Will a repeater off on all windows clear the one window repeater state if I happen to switch off of it then press the repeater off on all binding?
I also have the problem where the 4 small windows stack on top of the main window. After all 5 load if I press the pip hotkey for each though they are all in the correct places. I also cannot get the border to go away though I have it set for no border on the main window. The 4 small screens don't have borders, only the main window.
Thanks for the info Lax, I do have repeater rules so that I can /use {item} or /cast astral recall, etc. on all windows. Wait, what? I'm hoping you have macros set up for that rather than typing it out ;) You can use Mapped Keys with WoW Macro Actions for example. (which does not require Repeater)

Will a repeater off on all windows clear the one window repeater state if I happen to switch off of it then press the repeater off on all binding? The Repeater State for each window is independent of all other windows. You can create a key with a Repeater State Action that diables it on all windows if you like. Repeater being enabled for any given window allows you to broadcast FROM that window -- it does not need to be on in the other windows to receive the broadcast.

Did you replace the WindowSnapper that came with ISBoxer with an older version? Like from the WindowSnapper page or Zanthor's old zip?

Macro's work great for /cast astrall recall, but not so well for /use randomitemifound...
Some people are wierd, I've been known to cast spells in raid with /cast since it would take me longer to find the butotn than it does to type /cast!
Fair enough. Yeah, for random items of course Repeater is the best solution (and thusly why I use a bag mod with a search box!). Flip it on long enough to use it, then turn it back off :)
Lax, I just downloaded the window snapper from the wiki page and looking in the zip the dates are 11/18/2008 on autolayout.iss, 01/17/2009 on pipsqueak.iss and 01/18/2009 on windowsnapper.iss. Looking in my IS Scripts folder autolayout is the same, pipsqueak.iss is 05/31/2009 and windowsnapper.iss is 04/20/2009.
Also, I like to be as close to hardware style of boxing as possible and don't use ISBoxer macro system at all and the add-on is disabled in every wow. Partially because I already have Bind Pad and lots of regular standard WoW macros and if I want to play any single toon by themselves I have everything I need with just loading WoW.
I only recently started playing with keymaps because I haven't found an easy way to bind non-shared keybinds to a do-nothing button. It used to be very easy when using Bongos and then Macaroon to bind tons of non used keys to a single unused spot but as Blizzard has updated the addon system Bongos went away then I've had problems with Macaroon (since vehicles and the last couple patches).
Right now my ideal setup would be to use Keyclone for keybroadcasting and IS for window management and swapping windows but I can't get the two working together.

Partially because I already have Bind Pad and lots of regular standard WoW macros and if I want to play any single toon by themselves I have everything I need with just loading WoW. Funny enough, that's one major reason why I do use ISBoxer for macros. ISBoxer does not change WoW config at all when not playing through ISBoxer -- it is designed to be as unintrusive as possible and does not require changing your action bar buttons. I'm not sure how that makes you "close to hardware" though (and IMO there is no reason for that to be a goal if you're software boxing -- you're as equally unlikely to get banned as everyone else on the forums... but... up to you and what you are comfortable with, obviously).
Right now my ideal setup would be to use Keyclone for keybroadcasting and IS for window management and swapping windows but I can't get the two working together. 1. If you're using Vista or Win 7, you will need to run Keyclone as Administrator because IS is running as Adminsitrator and this makes your game run as Administrator
2. Add the windows manually to kc
5) No key "pause" built in like keyclone makes it harder up front to configure and I'm curious on the system impact of frequently loading and unloading keymaps via hotkey, could that be contributing to the freezeups and other problems? I get whispers all the time and chat in guild, etc. I see this one didn't get answered. Loading and unloading keymaps via hotkey is just adjusting configuration in memory, and doesn't do any disk access. It only affects anything at the instant you press the key.
Hi Lax,
Yes that's correct to my knowledge I did not download and install an older WindowSnapper. I did not use Zanthor's package though I did have him refer me so he would get credit and I downloaded all from the Lavish site.
The reason for wanting to be like I'm hardware boxing is because that is my goal in the end...but I'm talking maybe 8 months to a year from now. I'm keeping an eye on the new ION based mini computers as a way to cheaply do hardware boxing. I want to see full frame rates on all 5 windows. I thought I'd be hardware boxing by now but things in RL just keep coming up. It's also a partial interest in seeing how to do multiboxing the original way.
I have tons of keybinds using all kinds of modified keystrokes to different bind pad macros already since I just started using ISBoxer and that's partly why I'm not using the IS macro system. If I were just starting out with multiboxing it would be different.
Thanks for the tip on running kc as admin, I was able to use IS for windows and swap only (still have border around main window and they stack when launched) but I did all my keys through KC and it worked out great.
