After seeing all the complicated videos on how to do Ionar and reading of the troubles people have I decided to make this video. My opinion is that Halls of Lightning is the easiest heroic to do. I cleared it without a single wipe immediately after hitting 80 without buying any gear at all.

This should be even easier with 4x shamans. My resto shaman uses healing stream, nature resist and flametongue totems. With 4x healing stream it should be cake. Also notice my 3 dps is horrible at only 1300-1700.

Spread your guys out how i do and the sparks take all their time running between each of them and don't do much damage. The two characters next to the pillars are safe from the knockback and the two on the sides can each take a knockback without going out of range.

Enjoy! HD available now that I figured out the specs youtube needs.

To the left of where you're standing is a balcony. If you move your group there, they won't be affected by the knockbacks at all.

If you only put 1 on each side then they are out of line of sight of the healer.

I guess 2 could go on each side spread out around the boss in a kind of circle but that would be hard to do after already starting it. I've never had a problem with the knockbacks with this method at all though and I've cleared this place on normal so many times leveling 76-80 mostly in here.

I think you misunderstood me. The idea is to move your group to the balcony before the fight starts and spread them out along it's edges. Once that's done, you run up to the boss, pull him to the balcony as well. If you do it correctly, your characters will be spread out in an arc with room between them to prevent stacking.

Your video is pretty much identical to how I've always done him, but I'm just too lazy to ever fraps my runs (read: too lazy to go download that software). Initially I pulled him further down the stairs to the prior room where there is a lot more open area to spread out (increasing the distance between toons), but for the last few months I've just been doing him in the same spot you are. I was always concerned of LoS issues with doing him up there, but has never been an issue for me ever since trying it. Assuming you have the nature resist and ability to get heals off fast or have a good group heal, then he's actually a fairly simple fight. My brother remarked what a joke it had become once he came along on one of my runs (well, more than once since it took about 2 weeks of daily runs for Loken to finally drop his axe for his DK).

But I'm curious, what is the knockback you are referring to? In all my time going there, I don't think I ever recall having to deal with a knockback. None of his abilities mentioned on wowwiki ('http://www.wowwiki.com/Ionar') suggest he has that ability. Maybe you have that confused with another boss.

I think it's the ball lightning. After it hits someone it knocks them back about 10 yards. Seems like he does it only once between every disperse, maybe less if you dps quick.

Did it 3 months ago and use the room futher back, you should tank him in the middle. I also wrote a guide on how to deal with him on normal before xmas, but due to pvp i never went there before 3-4 months after that.

I def agree that this is one of the easiest instance with 2-3 shamans in the group.

I noticed during the video, that your shaman individually heals each party member that needs it. How do you control that? I have not been able to find a good way to do this. Right now, I just have each 4 of my shamans spam a lesser heal on himself when just one of them needs a heal, making my team run out of mana very quickly.

Right now, I just have each 4 of my shamans spam a lesser heal on himself when just one of them needs a heal, making my team run out of mana very quickly.I use the keypad for my healing and totem macros. I set my group up in the same order everytime by accepting invites manually each in order.
Press keypad 1 to heal the tank using this macro.

/stopcasting [harm]
/target focus
/castsequence reset=6 Riptide, Lesser Healing Wave, Lesser Healing Wave, Lesser Healing Wave
For the second person in my party according to my main's screen which is always the healer I use this on keypad 2 and so on up to keypad 5

/stopcasting [harm]
/target Schamu
/castsequence reset=6 Riptide, Lesser Healing Wave, Lesser Healing Wave, Lesser Healing Wave

Since the cast sequences are exactly the same it will continue the sequence even though it is a different macro with different targets.

I use keypad 0 for earth shielding the tank and keypad ./del to self chain heal but I rarely use that.

I set my group up in the same order everytime by accepting invites manually each in order. You can also turn your group into a raid. That way you won't leave the group when you log off and your chars will always be in the raid in the same order when you log back in. (Note that a lot of quests won't work when in a raid, but it's great if you only do heroics)
