View Full Version : Level 80 pvp and professions?

After doing single char play a lot and leveling a 5th shaman I finally got my butt into motion and started level 80 pvp (5x ele shaman).
One thing I have neglectedon the shamans so far are professions. Back in BC I put enough tailoring for Netherweave Nets on one of them, but that is really the extent of the profession points across the team. I do have basically all professions on various chars, I am just wondering what others are using.
Enchanting for spellpower seems a good choice.
Tailoring cloak enchants look interesting - the question is how good these are.
Engineering for Stun-bombs sounds interesting as well.
Alchemy or Herbalism have their charms as well, with the free (soon 3.2k) heal sounding nice.
What are you guys using?

JC and Enchanting for ring enchants / JC gems. Most +Stats out there for professions. And considering they are BOTH getting buffed in 3.2 to higher stats.. its win win.
Expensive and annoying to level.... but you'll never go back.

Thank you Asonimie! I already feared as much. =]
A quick follow up question:
Do you know if the JC daily quest item is multi-drop, i.e. every part member can loot it, or normal drop, i.e. five drops needed for five chars?

I have 4 JC Horde chars and yes you gotta do one for each char but its only 1 item anyways and takes like 10 mins. Thats pretty much how I managed to score Epic mounts so fast. I sold Dragon's Eye X 4 when they were like 300-400g each. Now they are only like 100-150g on my server

4x JC dialies are hax for gold farming.
I dont even do regular daily quests anymore. 1 quest takes 10 minutes and BAM, 440gold. And yes you have to kill multiple mobs... but its still only like 10 total mobs to get all 4-5 drops.

Tbh every proffesion gets buffs next patch and should provide pretty much the same amounts.
Enchanting and LW provides about the amount of same Stamina,AP or spellpower. LW is ususaly ALOT cheaper then enchanting though (you get 38 spellpower or 48 stamina from enchanting, from LW you get 36 spellpower or 50 stamina)
Jewelcrafting means you can pretty much get any bonus you want critt, stamina, spellpower, hit rating etc and same works for blacksmithing.
For maximum benefit and freedom blacksmithing and jewelcrafting are far superior to the other proffesions due to they allow you to choose any stat you want.

Currently from a min-max point of view, I'd recommend Jewelcrafting and Blacksmithing.
That is purely from the enchant/extra bonus those professions have over others.
Blacksmithing doesn't really do anything for a shaman, so maybe its not the best option.
I personally went with Jewelcrafting and Inscription.
Inscription shoulder enchants are a bigger boost over Hodir enchants then Enchanting rings is over non-enchanted rings.
As a bonus, 400 inscription is a lot easier to reach then exalted with Hodir.
In 3.2, they're buffing most professions so there might be relative parity.
If this is the case, it won't matter which route you've gone.
If that is the case too, I'd consider each profession for your team, for maximum gold making.
Still, one or another might be slightly better then the others.
Jewelcrafting will receive higher stats on the Dragon's Eye Gems, which is a buff to bring them in line with other professions.
Basically, there will be epic gems for everyone, and Dragon's Eye's have to be as much ahead of the epic gems as say Inscription shoulders are ahead of Hodir enchants.
JC is getting a severe nerf in that Dragons Eye Gems will no longer be Prismatic, they'll count as their respective colors, ie spelldamage/attack power will be Red not all colors.
This will impact Meta Gem requirements and Socket bonuses on pieces, should the socket bonus be worthwhile.
It is a consideration for JC'ing, but Dragon's Eye Gems will still be a strong boost.

Go with JC/enchanting. Especially jewelcrafting because it allows you to mix and match the stats a lot more since you get 3 gems. The other professions that have one big enhancement for one item usually only give you 1 or 2 options so if you later decide that you wanted... say +35 spell penetration or something, can't do it.
With prices on my AH it cost about 3500g to my main to 405 JC. It was the low levels that killed me, and certain ranges like 250-275 cost me probably 1000g. Yeah, it could be done for cheaper if I'd checked the AH constantly or tried to farm my own stuff, but I considered the value of my time - 1000-1200g in an hour with a 5 man team doing dallies, more if I wanna run a few instances that day. Seemed much more efficient to just get it all done at once rather than spend a week checking prices to save 1000g that I can make in an hour.
Enchanting is nice to do after JC. You will have literally hundreds of items to disenchant between 1-300. This probably equates to 1000g worth of enchanting mats. That's enough to get you about half way to your goal in enchanting as well, for free.

However, I would like to point out that the Prismatic>Nonprismatic change is truly not a nerf for my team, at least for quad shammy arena anyway. If you are properly gemmed for 5v5, you aren't stacking only red SP gems, you should have 3 blue gems (sp pen), which will fill your weapon, leg, and belt requirements for socket bonuses, therefore giving you all the beneficial socket bonuses from your gear.
I do realize that some specs out there are hit by this, mostly people who were stacking pure red gems for max sp/str/agi. But I definitely wouldn't call it a huge nerf.

I understand I am in the PvP thread.
The JC nerf is indeed a noticeable nerf in PvE. Doesnt really affect PvP I know, but alot of people PvE along with pvping. Just sayin
