I'm going on vacation next week, and decided to spend a good portion of it finally taking the plunge to 4-boxing. I'd have gone 5, but my funds for this are limited. I've 2-boxed several groups to 60, but this is my first time running with 4.

My goals with the group are doing mostly instances, some light/essential questing, and of course pwning everything I see :) Maybe some light PvP as well (BG's), though likely later.

I've got plenty of fundage available as well..I'm an AH playah on my main.

Anyway, last night I goofed around with a 4-man pally team, and it was ridiculously amusing *clunk* *clunk* *clunk* *clunk* *dies*. *So* glad to see multiple melees is now viable--I love melee characters. If I went this route I'd probably spec one prot and the rest retribution, then switch one of the rets to holy later when instances get harder.

I note quite a few folks do 3 or 5, but few people mention 4-manning. Would the boxing vets here recommend sticking with the same class for a first try? Testng out ISBoxer initially, if that makes a difference.

I also toyed with the idea of 2 pallies and 2 shammies (possibly enhance, even)...any thoughts on which group has the potential to be the most powerful?

So, ultimately either:

1 Prot paladin
1 Ret paladin
1 shammy (enhance or ele?)
1 Resto shammy

OR

1 Prot paladin
2 Ret paladins
1 Holy paladin

OR, should I just start out with a mixed group, something like:

Prot Paladin
Boomkin
Shadow Priest
Ele/eventually dualspec resto Shaman

well it comes down to ur choice.. all these options that you gave us are viable, but its based on what you want to do, the machine you have, the amount of like little keypad things with extra keys you have. And most importantly you patience/willing to fiddle with macros and things or just have striaght spells (this would be the all paladin group.

So looking at ur choices, the 4 paladin group would be very easy to setup (well its still hard, but easy compared some crazy things ive seen). This will provide you with ease of knowing the spells and being able to react fast because they all have the same spells and the same buttons.. (this is the only setup that you will ever be able to pvp in.

The mix shaman paladin/shaman group is popular but in a little different way. The best way to do this is have 1 prot pali, and 3 ele shamans. that can just sit back in the back and shoot like crazy and totem the crap out of the place, and throw up some serious group heal.. This is the most popular way to multibox instances, and you will get the most support with it. I do not recomend the mix of prot, ret, enhance, ele, because its hard to have ranged and melle with all these different specs..

Finally your final setup is very good, a good portion (not as many as the prot pally shaman though) do mixed, but it requires a lot of macros and focus, because each character has different spells and its hard to keep up. You really need to know the classes, and be able to have a lot of focus (not viable for pvp at all)

Thanks, that's good info.

I think I'll go with the 4 pallies, at least to start. I set them up using the ISBoxer beta last night. I gotta say, ISBoxer is pretty powerful and has gotten much easier to use - you can setup everything with the interface, including all your macros. It still takes some tweaking of course, but it's pretty sweet.

Yes I use ISboxer and I love it. I really like using ground target AEs now =)
