Most french people didn't agree with your previous president on many points, granted. This doesn't mean we as a people hate you as a people. Just like the half of American population who didn't vote for him doesn't hate the half that did.

Besides, "Americans"doesn't mean much. I have been to few places in the stated (NY, Chicago, Texas, Arizona, Tennessee, ...), and it's quite obvious that there's big differences betwenn all these people.

Pro Tip for all the kiddies out there: Don't get into unmarked vans in foreign countries, let alone your own country!! (in case it wasn't obvious enough)

That said, although there is a lot of mockery of just about any other country besides the one you're in (and often includes your own country anyways), I don't know that there's really any hate. Normally its the governments you may "hate", but its rarely the people themselves. Heck, most US citizens aren't happy with the US government, let alone foreigners.

I haven't met anyone from France, Germany, or pretty much anywhere else that dislikes the US in regards to the people(s) or culture(s). Though, I did meet a couple UK natives that thought Americans were "dumb", but they seemed to generally be rather angry people to begin with (EDIT: just referring to these two people, not the rest of the UK :)).

Vocal minorities (the idealogical minorities, not the racial/social ones), especially those propped up by sympathetic media, are where most of this "hate" comes from. Your average family in France isn't all that much different from your average family in America. Sure, obvious things apply, but we all put our pants on feet first and all have to make a living. I think you'll find more people universally "hating" taxes and welfare than hating any particular country full of people.

I've had beers over dinner with folks from about 10 different countries on a semi-regular basis and they're all more or less concerned with the same things: keeping a good job, feeding the family and enjoying life while we're here. The scrubs you see chanting "DEATH TO AMERIKA" and such are sheeple who have nothing better to do and 99% of the time are pushing a particular agenda. Follow the money.

I just wish we could all have a beer or 3 and appreciate folks for their individual merits. We don't get into trouble until we try to pigeonhole people into groups. ;)

As long as it's french, belgium or german beer we should be ok :-)

Is that Nicaraguan coke? I hope the Colombians approved of it or you are in trouble!
