You are in a battleground you see one of your team involved in a 1v1.

What is the correct thing to do. Are you supposed to ignore them, as it's a fair fight and they can win it or lose it on their own, or are you supposed to pile in, help them kill the enemy and move on.

I was watching a BG where my son was playing. I've taught him it's a team game, it's not about leaderboard position, its about being a useful team member.
So he sees one of his team fighting a hordey and piles in on the fight. They kill the alliance then he starts getting whispers from the team mate he's just helped.

Basically he said "I don't need to stroke my epeen by stealing someone elses Killing Blows as I'm in a 2200 (or so) rated Arena team and I'm more than capable of killing on my own".

It did seem ironic that someone who doesn't need to stroke his epeen felt the need to quote his arena ranking and got so upset over a killing blow.

However I am now wondering if you are meant to let 1v1's occur. I've always thought that successful BG's are pretty much where you make every fight an unfair one.
if there are 3 of them you hit them with 5, but then I have been in 1v1 fights and seen my teammates ride happily by so now I'm not so sure.

The "team mate" was being a Dick(tm).

Kill kill kill kill kill.

That's what BGs are about. I kill absolutely anything that moves. I couldn't care less about killing blows. Or BG whiners either, to be honest.

What we need in WoW is a duel system whereby two consenting players can fight each other 1v1 to test their individual skill without having to resort to things like battlegrounds. Oh, hang on a sec....

You do whatever it takes to win. David Sirlin explains it in his book "Playing to win".

I've always ignored "Road humpers". If they want to waste thier time waving thier e-peens at each other, that's thier perversion. But 1v1 at an objective, it's on.

In PvP, people will bitch no matter what you do, so best to just ignore everyone. If that guy got hosed and your son had ridden past, he would have been all "WTF?!?! ur suposed 2 help ur team!! thanks alot, loser!"

Battlegrounds are all about destroying the other team by any means necessary. It isn't about fair fights, and killing blows, and honor kills, and being fair, and blah blah blah, it's about winning the battle. As far as riding past someone in a 1 vs 1 situation I will do that if I'm either sure my teammate will win, and/or I'm on a much more important time-sensitve mission than saving just 1 teammate, as I often am being a multiboxer.

On my battlegroup, we need more grouping kills! (exclusing WG which is somehow different). In our BG's if you find an alliance alone and go to kill them 1 on 1, within 5 seconds you have a half dozen Alliance on you killing you. That's why they win. I wish my Horde compatriots would gang up like that so we could be more effective.

Kill. Them. All.
Then proceed to camp the WSG GY. >:) There's actually more honour in killing lots of enemies and losing compared to defending your own flag and winning, or that's what I gathered anyways. :/

You see a teammate fighting someone 1v1 and they win. Result: you get yelled at for helping.
You see a teammate fighting someone 1v1 and they lose. Result: you get yelled at for not helping.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

That being said, there's plenty of idiots in BG's that pull that crap of trying to get the most HK's. It's annoying and I have to calm myself down sometimes when playing. Sure am glad you hopped in to "help" me kill that guy who was at 5% health and running for his life, there's no way I could have have taken him down myself!

your son did nothing wrong, the guy was a dick.

your son should have tailed him and hopefully made more killing bows.... I'm not above being a dick back.

I kill everything and anything in site, the objective is to kill not duel. If you want to Duel, go outside a horde cap city and wait.

If people want to yell at me thats fine, next time i see them getting killed i let them die, usually if someone starts attacking my multiboxing on my server i get people defending me. Its all about your rep.

Everyone has his own code of conduct that defines what is OK, and what is going too far. The one and only officially rule of PvP is, "work it out amongst yourselves," so naturally we develop more detailed rules for ourselves to fill the space. That's fine ... I have my own set of rules which make me feel like an adequately good sportsman, and I follow them.

Expecting other people to follow your personal rules, though, is just stupid. Nobody's agreed on them but you, so why chew people out for not following rules they never agreed to? It's futile and retarded.

So ignore this fool on the BG -- he's being unrealistic and unreasonable.

The correct response for an idiot like this is "If you're so good at arenas, perhaps you should stick to them and GTFO of my BG!"

:P
