View Full Version : quad resto shamans -- viable in the arena?

I say quad because my 5th is at 78.

My 4 shamans are geared in mostly deadly with a few hateful peices left over. In my 3s team at least (resto shaman (me), boomkin and hunter) we have a hard time against double healer teams because of the surviability -- specifically a holy pally and resto druid) -- they can essentially win because they can out heal the burst and out last us -- mana is a major weekness as a resto shaman in arenas, I have to drink every chance I can and the druid usually saves his innervate for me -- I don't have mana tide because I took 5/5 toughness instead.

Anyhow, in another thread someone mentioned an all healer team could outheal the burst damage of another team.. so, has anyone tried all resto shamans, or 4 resto shamans and a 5th healer, pally or priest -- basically play the outlast game?

With 4 healing stream totems can do some pertty serious healing, infact that's what allows me to 4 box onyxia -- and 4 mana tide totems could be pretty serious.

I currently raid resto with two of my shamans (when I have the chance to dual-box in a raid, which is usally a pug) so they're already dual specced.. I'm tempted to dual spec the other 2 and give it a shot -- just wondering what you guys think?

But I'm thinking.. outlast, outlast -- drop 4 searing totems or 4 magma totems and just heal -- 4 riptides would pretty much heal to full anyone, then wither them down with a nature's softness chain lightning?

That one dps wouldn`t make a real difference then lol. Maybe a lock for some CC controll and dotting up the place. 4 resto shamans still has some nice dps but I still think the other team will outlast you since you mostly will be doing healing.

I would think against casters you'd have a chance as heals are more efficient than DPS. Against a melee-heavy group, you won't outlast their rage/energy. :P

Most teams play with 2 healers and i cant see how your gonna kill anything even with 1 healer while the other healer goes out to drink.

I personally think its a sad idea because it goes against everything that is fun with the arena.

P.S. like was said above, that much healing is great for living... but what are you gonna do to kill anyone?

I dont do arenas, but I have had really nice fun with tank pala and 4 x resto chamans and 5x resto shamans and no paladin.

For casters... you can just drop the grounding totems and lb/cl them to death. It's not that good looking like ZOMG LVB spam, but it's effective.
For melee, just drop magma totems or fire elementals and chain heal. Throw ocassional flame shocks just for the fun of it. Let the magma totems do your work. Have earthliving (lifegiving or whatever it's called) weapon up instead of flametongue and you will see very frequently your entire group with Hot x 5 + the individual riptide. If your group is spacegoat shamans then throw also gift of the naaru racial and you become a healing powerhouse.

That's the only way I have managed to get first on damage, healing, killing blows and honorable kills at the same time for the entire BG (horde and alliance sides).

Also magma totem has a very nice utility against skillcloack rogues, it burns them to death. There is nothing better to see a rogue pop lolcloack, realize that he will die anyways to the totems and try to vanish just to reappear dead one second later.

Not sure how this may work in arenas because people are much more focused there than in BGs, but you could try if you have healing offspec on your shamans.As much you may lose some matches.

I dunno I've played quad resto in wintergrasp and battlegrounds and it's hard to kill one target even without heals. A single healer could keep your target up forever. Your casts take ages, you don't get double crit, shocks have 6 second cooldown, chain lighthing has a huge cooldown, and you take spell knockback on offense castsc. It's a fun gimmick though, no doubt
