1.) Decide it is time to implement autoselling
2.) Cock up the code
3.) Log on, open Vendor Dialog
4.) Sell almost everything
5.) Panic
6.) Decide to check buyback, Open Vendor Dialog again
7.) Sell remaining
8.) Panic again, log out to disable addon
9.) Realise this loses buybacks
10.) Panic more
11.) Come to terms with loss
12.) Raise a ticket to Gm explaining stupidity and begging for mercy
Next morning
1.) Log on
2.) GM tells me stuff is in the mail
I LOVE BLIZZARD

Ouch.
Need help writing an AddOn for auto-sell that isn't gonna hose your inventory? I've written two so far, I could share one or work on a new one that fits your needs.
Let me know ;)

Thanks for the offer......very nice of you.
It's ok....I forgot to put the quality test in. In fact I just iterated through my bags selling each item (I hadn't completed the code)
It is only a few lines in my current homegrown addon....only want very basic functionality

My favourite auto-vendor event was with a 3rd party addon, ATSW (advanced tradeskill window). My 70 rogue main at the time was an alchemist. I needed to buy the vials that were 5g a stack to make some potions. ATSW would conveniently auto-buy what you need when you opened an appropriate vendor.
My inventory (3x18 slot bag, 1x 20 - back in TBC days) was almost completely empty - I like clean bags.
I open the vendor, and to my horror it bought as many vials as it could to fill the bags. It ran out of gold shortly before filling the bags (I wasn't too rich, only had in the hundreds of gold on the toon). Then I had to vendor them back at quarter-price...didn't want to fillout a GM ticket as I figured they'd wave the "ADDON! ADDON!" wand and say I'm screwed. I did have to vendor most of them back, I didn't even have enough gold to post the auctions of the potions I made with the vials I actually needed <blush>

One more reason to create a dummy character to act as your mod testing guinea pig. :)
Slap a random assortment of greys, vendor whites, and expendable greens (hit the AH and buy a couple level 10-15 greens for like 50s). Keep just enough gold on them for basic stuff (2-4g should be enough). If anything goes wrong, there's little to cry over.

Mine was self inflicted.
I had a level 35 hunter that was my enchanter. Needed to get whatever enchanting pattern is in Moonglade. I knew I didn't have enough cash so had mailed it to my self (still 1 hour back then) thinking I would get it from the mail when I got there. Corpse hop through the tunnel. Get to Moonglade, did you know there is no mailbox there? There wasn't then. So I vendor my my gear to buy the recipes thinking I will hearth get gold from mail and then buy back. Did not know that buy back went away upon zoning.
GM conversation was:
Me: Hey my buyback is gone
GM: Hmm, you zoned didn't you?
Me: yeah, that matters?
GM: Buyback clears on zoning.
Me: Oh, that sucks. I wish it said that somewhere... like the loading screen tip about the buyback
GM: Yeah, sorry about that
Me: Well can I get my gear restored?
GM: <standard restore blurb>
I had mostly blues. I got back mostly random greens. I did get my blue bow. Nothing was enchanted and lost my scope. At least i got something back.

How about this......
Pre Wotlk.
One account of mine has 3 level 70's. A "friend" comes over to the house one saturday to hang out and was checking out my stuff..... Deletes 2 of my chars because it was "funny". GM says they can do a one time restore. I only got ONE of the chars back, no gold. I spent the next 2 weeks fighting blizz on it and they ended up saying, "Take what we gave you and like it".

Can't say I've ever really had an experience with addon fails or anything. On topic of Blizzard's awesomeness, though, my account got hacked once, back when I'd just dinged 70. Didn't really have much, but some of my gear had been DE'd and was on AH. Put in a ticket for a GM, told them what happened, got all my stuff back without a hitch. Luckily, I wasn't loaded.

pre bc my main was a mage in pretty good preraid gear and a bank full of mats, logged on one day to find her gone, checked some other realms and my alts there were gone too. The GMs gave me everything back but it was hard to remember all the alts names and realms so I'm sure there's some deleted orphans out there. I can wrap my head around some dickswab stealing your gold, selling your items, stripping you naked etc but why delete the toon? It's just malicious.
