I'm having a bit of difficulty on how to control/setup my group AFTER my main dies.
Currently I'm simply leveling my toons via boosting/questing and have not fully setup my group that I intend to run with. I have some very basic macro's on follow, attack ect... (no round robin setups yet)
The problem is when my main dies, I'm at a loss... kinda like the deer in the headlights look , lol.
I use ASDW keys for movement and on the slaves I have disabled the ASDW keys (from within wow, not keyclone) have the arrow keys setup as an alt method of controlling those.
I have a (1) 24" (1920x1600) and (2) 20" 1600x1200 screens, but I'm only using the 24" atm. It's set as 1440x1200, and four @ 480x300. You may ask, why don't I use the other screens...... well I'm not sure how to set those up yet and still use the 24" as my main monitor for controlling my toon(s)
I'm looking for any advice/suggestions on best how to set this up...... especially for a noob multi-boxer :whistling:
My system consists of:
Quad core Q9450 @ 2.66Ghz
8g ram
GTX 260 video card (x2)
24" monitor (x1)
20" monitor (x2)
20-key Xkeys pad (recent purchase not setup for wow yet)
using keyclone v1.9g

i use focus based macros and i set the focus macros to the pip swap keys. that way, when i pip swap, the focus gets set to the character in my main area.
here is a link on how to work with focus based macros:
[Keyclone] step-by-step wow macro setup (level 2.0) ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=18695')
whatever you are using for your pip swap keys, create a macro and associate those same keys with the appropriate macro. if you get it set up right, hitting one key will pip swap and set your new leader. then just target and fire... and if all is set up right, your remaining alts will use the new leader for targeting

Thanx, I'll give that a try.
...........also with reference to keyclone, I'm having some issues with one of the smaller screens not swapping out at times. ie.. I have F8 as the larger screen, with F9-F11 as the other 4. When I swap views, one of the smaller screens sometimes blanks out and just the desktop b/g shows and I usually can't get it back xcept relaunching the application.
any ideas what may be causing that?
[edited]...........
NM...... I think I resolved this. I changed display's 2 & 3 NOT to extend onto the desktop and the pip/swap seems to be fine.
However I do have one other question........ Is it possible to have the 24" play in fullscreen and use the 20" monitor for the other 4 toons and still be able do the pip/swap?
In other words, can I swap one of the the 4 screens from the 20" to the 24"? and vise versa
Yes but it'll be alittle bit distorted if the resolutions arent set the same, not a big deal as most of the time you're only playing your alts on the main area till after the pull is over and you can rez your main.

I've found PiP swap to work the fastest when regions are the exact same size.
It is a little slower when the ratio is the same, but the size is different.
I've not experimented with different ratio's but assume this would work too.
As far as follow goes...
You could disable the default movement keys via Keyclone (Do Not Pass List) rather then in Warcraft.
That way, no matter who the active toon is, those set of keys will move that toon but none of the others.
If you do it from within Warcraft, then a PiP swap leaves you with keys to move one slave only, but not the new main or other slaves.
Other follow methods people commonly use...
- Make the active toon the Focus, and have all of the toons Follow Focus. Current toon will not follow themself, but all the others will follow current toon.
- Make the active toon the Party Leader, and have all of the toons /follow [target=party1]. Unfortunately the active toon will try to follow a party member too, but you can break this via arrow keys or the mouse. All the other toons will follow the leader correctly.
- I personally use Jamba to control my following. Within warcraft on the same keybind as your PiP switches place macro's which tell Jamba the new toon has become the master of the group. The Jamba command is /Jamba Setmeasmaster all. You can follow within Jamba either on a keypress or have it strobe the follow key every (configurable) few seconds.

After experimenting with a lot of configurations w/keyclone(v1.9g) I think I've found a setting that works really well.
Using the 24" monitor as the main monitor and the (2) 20" monitor's on either side placed in portrait mode I was able to utilize the pip/swap feature.
24", region1[F1] = 1920x1200, landscape
Left side 20", region 2[F2] {1200x800, upper portion}, region 4[F4] {1200x800, lower portion}
Right side 20", region 3[F3] {1200x800, upper portion}, region 5[F5] {1200x800, lower portion}
So far so good :thumbup: ...... using Windows 7 (64 bit) Evaluation copy, quad core 2.66Mhz, 8gig ram, (2) 260 GTX video cards

Hey there, I hope you do not mind me asking but your system specs, ram aside, are fairly close to mine :P
I was wondering if you were running in SLI mode with the two cards and still doing all 3 displays or what your set up was like for that, one card for main other card for the two alt monitors... If you could let me know Id appreciate it :)

I'm not utilizing SLI at this time, figured the less complications the better. However from what I've read on the subject you can only setup SLI for maximum of 2 monitors. Mine are setup as 1-2-3, 20"-24"-20" respectively. Video card 1 is in the 1st PCIe slot and is connected to monitor's 1 & 2. I'll probably be adding a 4th monitor for web/ventrilo access later.
The main reason I like it is I can actually see stuff on the other 2 screens without squinting ^^

In response to the different size and aspect ratio, it's not bad if you don't have any custom UI elements. If you have anything at all that requires you to drag it on the screen to place it (i.e. Pitbull, simple buff bars, recount/damagemeter, etc) those are left in the same ratio place as the window you swaped with. This leads to hilarious hijinx like having all your party members and their pets' bars right over the center of your screen so you can't click on anything.
Not that that has ever happened to me... :whistling:

Comming from noob land as well i did the same thing as you ~ the biggest problem i had was that i did what you did at first ~ disabled aswd in wow not keyclone ~ my biggest mistake!
use do not pass keys (in keyclone) or you will not be able to control your characters well when you swap windows is my best suggestion to add to the excellent follow focus suggestions
My workflow to swap windows is push window button push focus macro (focuses first not dead in list) and im running 100% (minus one toon usually :P the dead one) with this there kind of is no main per say.
Changing to arrows destroys all of your motor memory for controlling your toons when you swap and your functionality will get shot down
My experience is such anyway.
Good luck!

@PauperJin
you can make the focus change key the same as the pip swap key. that way, a single key press will swap your regions AND change your leader.
