View Full Version : My RAF Experience and seeking some advice

First off, RAF is amazing.

So I am still not able to bring my 5 box team back. Just can’t afford it but I was able to sell the wife on letting me get a new account and being able to dual box. Of course there was something in it for her as she got some lvl 60 toons out of it. So I got a new one and I RAF’ed her account to my new one and then have been using my lvl 80 lock to boost us through. I have always done the run and dot method and with Soul Link and Corruption now healing it has become even easier, but I wanted to do something different. Reading through the forums I saw people boosting with tanking classes and I wanted to see how many pulls I could do these places in and I actually found better ways then I had started out doing these.

My Alliance lock is 10 man Naxx/ pvp geared. This was actually nice for this since it has a lot of stam on it. I eventually switched out my gear and put on the frost resist gear and will be replacing with stam gems instead of the spell power/hit gems in there now. Mostly item level 200

My Horde lock is much better geared with Naxx 25, with a few items being 226.

Stockades – I originally started out with my boosting use the Fel Guard on passive just for the “oh crap”. I quickly found that this was not effective. Remembering a while back ago they made sacrifice on the VW not kill him but take some life away, I switched. The VW works a lot better here as I have Sacrifice and I also have the AOE Taunt (that won’t kill them like the Fel Guard would) if I get in a while bind. The mobs here do a knockdown that if you get a string of them you can find yourself in real trouble. I have to pull Stocks in 3 pulls due to this knockdown. I pull the first hallway as you walkin including all the rooms on the way back. This one is by far the easiest pull. Second I run down the hall on the right (doesn’t matter if you take left or right) and run al lthe way down to the round room and pull each room and then run back out into the hallway and run into each of the hallway rooms until I get them all pulled and get them to the edge of the ramp. Here a use Metamorphosis and then Immolation Aura. I think this talent was made for this. lol. Then the same thing on the other side. I can do the whole deal in around 10 mins.

Scarlet Monastery – Cath- This is easier than Stocks was. From the advice on another thread I got here I pull the hallway, then out in the courtyard I run up the left side then up the stairs then up the left side again. I cut the corners as sharp as I can to break LOS. Run up the left said again, run across, I use Curse of Weakness while I am running to pull the guys in front of the door and then jump down the waterfall. Run straight and then pull the other side and run up the stairs again and pull the top side, jump down the waterfall again. Killers here, are a string of bad FrostBolts. You would think wearing a bunch of Frost Resist gear and being almost 40 levels higher than them I would resist them all. Lol. You don’t and you can get a string of these and put you in a bad place. I usually have to use my VW shield on the way back up to get the second side. Having a Human lock and a Undead lock I have “everyman for himself” and “Will of the forsaken” which I save if I get “slowed”. If you find yourself in a real bad spot you can hit your VW to be defense and then immediately switch back to passive. This is just to get the AOE taunt off and give you time to jump down the waterfall again. Head to the hallway where your alts are just inside and out of LOS. When they all come around the corner, use Meta again and Immolation Aura. Second pull is even easier. Open door run up to boss and smack him, wait a second for all mobs around to come to you, use VW shield and Meta and Immolation Aura. If Meta is not off cooldown, then when I get to the boss. I use sacrifice and then the aoe taunt and then start seeding several of them. Due to the AOE cap one Seed is not enough to kill them all. I think I have to have 3 or 4 go off to kill them. I am going to stay here till 44 or 45.

Here are some questions I have where to go next. I was thinking I would do ZF but I just read today that it has been nerfed a while back ago so no more mounting. I am little worried about doing ST, Strat and Ramparts are what I understand to be the next places to go. Anyone have any experience boosting these with locks? Any advice?

My video card sucks but I will see if I can Frap SM and post it.

just because you can't ride a mount through ZF doesn't mean you can do the instance, just not nearly as fast you would have before.
I'm sure ZF was awsome if you could run the whole thing back to the front and do a massive AoE killing.
I would still suggest getting all of the quests for there and running it once or twice.
There are quite a few quests for ZF and most are easy to get.

I love using my warlock to boost as I make the pet round up a large group and then seed of corrupt them down.
I usually don't use a fel gaurd because I find he kills too fast and if the pet kills nobody gets xp.
I prefer a void walker for this kind of boosting.

I've never boosted much beyond 60 myself. I've run a few ramps with a pre-60 group and a level 70 warlock and it wasn't too bad.

yar, dismounting shots are terribad.

but as a mage booster, i find that when i get dismounted, i can still survive the 'run back' to the slaves. just have to keep ice barrier up and nova when they get too close. and yeah, no-mount slows the run down a lot.

Well I did ZF and it was basically a run through instead of a boost. Basically for the quests. There were some shinning moments just to far in to really bother. The skeletons were one of those.

I don't know Sunken Temple very well but did some ready on it and modified it for myself and it was ok, but the mobs hit pretty hard here and I think I was gathering too many at one time. I would grab the top ring and aoe them down and then drop down to the center ring and get them all. One time lived though barely, and the second time died. That was enough. I was probably just being greedy and should have done the bottom half in two pulls. That would have been cake. I am finding when boosting the CC's that you get on you make all the difference in the world.

Strat was ok. I was able to a fair amount. This again was more of a run through that a boost. The silences and the rooting are what gets me here other wise this place would be way more cakewalk. Did the cauldron quests and that pretty much took me 60.

Started the horde team and as I knew it would be, Ragefire was fun as nothing seems to reset but I have to do several pulls here as the knockdown's get so frequent that eventually I am not even able to move. lol.

SFK is one long ass pull. Ok the first one to open the door but that really doesn't count. I can pull the whole place and have everything dead in about 6 1/2 mins. Everytime I run it, it is about a 8g repair. I can't really get to far away from these guys as they will (and did frustrating to say the least) reset. Just gotta take the beating. The really nice thing is EVERYTIME I pulled this place it was a level. Now 20 going back to SM for anohter 25 levels. Looking forward to SM as it is the easier pulls. cheapest repair bills.
