CTRL, ALT, SHIFT, (and others like them): I use them every day for lots of tasks, including World of Warcraft. So much, in fact, that it is engraved into my subconscious to use them. But now it might be bannable? Here at dual-boxing we don't actually care about silliness like "It is not a key, it is a modifier!"... "NO U!". We need more than that. We have laws written in blue ink that we must follow to the letter, with no room for interpretation unless it fits our side of the argument, and throw the word "bannable" around like we are the executioners of said law. After reading this thread ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=22294') , I noticed there were some things unanswered. The thread ends abruptly, and we are left with a serious issue on our hands. Are CTRL, ALT, SHIFT actually keys? Well my answer personally to that is "Is your thumb actually a finger? The answer to both is actually yes, but because of the dual-boxing.com inside me..... "IF IT AIN'T BLUE, IT AIN'T TRUE!".

Ask a GM if Alt is a key
Interesting proposition. Thus began my journey to seek the truth. I saw this question as a calling to me. I told myself that it was my time to shine. My time to contribute back to the community that has helped me so much. Why don't we find out? In order to not plagiarize the question, I cleverly asked about CTRL instead. I got my response today that I will share with you all.

Greetings XXXXXX,

Thank you for contacting the World of Warcraft Game Master Department.

Petition: I have a question regarding the keys on my keyboard. I heard that it is a Blizzard rule is that you can only have one key press do one action. Well I have some keys bound to doing a different action if I press CTRL with them. Is CTRL considered a 'key' under this rule? I would be doing two key presses for one action and I do not want to get banned.

Answer: You can have a key bound that does more then 1 thing. Like say you wanted to change to battle stance and charge, you could make a macro to do that. We just don't want people using bot programs etc. :)

Should you require further assistance, please submit another help request the next time you are online. We hope you continue to enjoy your experience in World of Warcraft!

For any game play questions, please refer to our site at http://www.blizzard.com/support/wowgm/

*** Please do not respond to this email as all conversations on this matter would be best handled online. ***

So there you have it. Another blue stain on the commandment wall.

"You can have a key bound that does more then 1 thing".

May we link back to this thread for all time. Let it be our torch in these dark days of multiboxing.

i think you may have slightly missed the point. the arguement over the one key doing two things has nothing to do with modifiers and having it do one thing if youre pushing shift-q and a different thing if youre pushing alt-q. its more to do with things like delay timers or straight up macro keyboards like on the g15 keyboard where you can bind a g key to just keep pushing q over and over again with only 1 keypress.

the legality of modifiers was never in question as it is written into the macro system. now ask a gm if you can bind a key using a third party program such as ahk or a macro keyboard to do something like move you forward for one second then left for one second using only one keypress and you may get a little bit different story.

now if i misread your post then i apologise :)

edit: had the darndest time spelling macro

i must admit i didnt read the reference thread, but thats mainly because the item being discussed by the OP seems pretty obviously allowed to me. ill go read the thread but i dont understand why modifiers would ever be in question. i apologize for jumping to conclusions here but really the title of the thread is very misleading... i just didnt want anyone to get the wrong impression :)

Nothing new here. This is not going to become a continuation of the previous mentioned thread.

Edited inappropriately named title and locked.
