View Full Version : How do you deal with MC's on main?
/assist and /focustarget macros seem to break down when your main gets MC'ed. You can "Target" something on your main but your "real" target is whatever the hell the MC AI tells you to target.
Cool stuff like Tremor totem and WOTF often dont work on PVE MC's, anyone know of a good way to handle MC?
Do you have macros or keymaps set up for when your main dies? That's what I do, and just finish out the fight with Ryantwo as the main.

whenever any of my guys get hex'd I just spam interrupts and aoe's on my main or dispell as quickly as possible (decursive hotkey on each) if I can. realistically though, before every pull I think might be difficult I set a focus for each of my mages in case this happens, then I hit my stop follow and sheep macro. While this might suck if you got the mob to less than 50% its better than wiping. Also, if you hit Arcane Missiles for the mages fast enough after the sheep they don't gain any health and auto turn to follow the target.

It is a good idea to have the ability to quickly shift focus to a new main assist and be able to control that character.

Agreed.
Try something like this. It's myu F11 key and my main focus/follow key. If my main dies/mc i press alt+F11 if he dies/mc i press ctrl+F11 and so on and so on. This is also a one push focus follow me key.
clearfocus
/focus Jussa
/focus [modifier:lalt] Jusab
/focus [modifier:ctrl] Jusac
/focus [modifier:shift] Jusad
/focus [modifier:ralt] Jusae
/fol focus

The way I've been doing it when the main dies, is not releasing spirit on the main.
Just continue to select different mobs on my dead main
My regular macro on my alts
/target main
/assist
Still works for me.
I only use focus for targeting for sheeping.

I have a standard focus macro and a backwards one. The backwards one (as the name implies) sets the focus in the reverse order. That way if Onemote is MC'ed or something similar, I press the backwards macro and Fivemote becomes the focus.
could you elaborate? What do you mean by forwards and backwards?
Do you mean you hit the first macro multiple times and it cycles focus to various party members? or am i reading too far into it?

For instance...one macro sets the focus in this order:
Onemote
Twomote
Threemote
Fourmote
Fivemote
The other macro sets the focus in this order:
Fivemote
Fourmote
Threemote
Twomote
Onemote
They are bound to different keys. So if Onemote is MC'ed, then hitting the first macro would still keep the focus on him (since he's alive). So then I hit the second macro, which sets the focus to Fivemote.
i'm still not getting it, is it like a focus train or something?
Like Twomote focuses onemote
Threemote focuses twomote
Fourmote focuses threemote
fivemote focuses fourmote?
Which is way different from the way i do it (i have all 4 focus my "main")
i would probably have to re-think the way im doing macros and stuff if i was going to copy off you on this one.

I think his macro will stop at the first "alive" character otherwise it will try to focus the next character. The 2nd macro does the same but has the characters in reverse order.
I use two sets of macros for different types of characters:
/clearfocus
/focus toon1
/focus [modifier:shift] toon2
/focus [modifier:ctrl] toon3
/focus [modifier:alt] toon4
/focus [modifier:lalt] toon5
/follow focus
/assist focus
I use that on my pally shaman team.
On my mage priest team I really need to keep focus free for sheeps and shackles so I use the
/target [target=toon1,nodead], [target=toon2,nodead], etc...
/assist
/follow
type macro.
There are annoyances with each type. The nodead modifier means if you wipe you need a separate macro or manually set follow to get back to where you died. Using focus, simply leaves you without a focus frame for CC or sicking pets on or whatever.
