View Full Version : A few things I noticed about leveling and gear.

Since I started this group, I've done most of my levling in instances.
I've been skipping on a bunch of quests because I was leveling so fast.
The thing I noticed the most was that ALL of my gear sucks...bad.
I replaced a level 14 item this weekend on my level 49 SK. 8|
Ok, not all of my gear sucks on all characters. My Warlock (the only cloth/int user) is loaded up on legendary/fabeled items.
...side track thought...who the hell thought it would be a good idea to put AGI/STR on so many cloth items????
Anywho, I started doing some quests in the Sinking Sands and found a nice NPC that wanted me to drag skittish beetles to their death by heroic spiders.
After my brain turned to goo and a bazillion beetle deaths, I managed to upgrade all of my SK and Inquisitor's gear.
Other than that, I've found a few really neat quests, and I'm wondering just what all I missed out on by doing the quick leveling.
The genie lamp was pretty cool...except that it is a solo instance.

You're not really going to be missing much. My guys were still replacing newb stuff at 70+. I just the other day replaced the default torches in my charm slots on the 2 80s we mentored up. If you really feel you're lacking, you can have someone craft you gear, the mastercrafted stuff is actually really nice for a long time and some people still sell non-MC gear for the cost of fuel or less. At 70, though, once you hit Kylong, just about every quest rewards you with really nice armor upgrades.

Probably the same guy who rolled an Erudite 'lock like me and found out that picking up 1 piece of plate made him severly burdened :X

Hahaha, ok got me there. I usually have my Bard or SK loot, so I've never paid attention to it. :P

the only issue with 50- 59 gears is that they got some upgrades last year...now that i am in T7 i have a hard time to find better than my fabled/legendary stuff i used unless i start to work on the hardest instances but i need to be 70, even mastercrafted gears looks better than legendary class sets from KoS, i just want to enjoy the game and not skip most of contents but gears looks so crap that i am lvling faster to reach 71 now ( to remove AA cap since i am at 100+ at 67).

Thats exactly how I do it, my bard loots all chests ( because she disarms them ) and my sk loots all trash. Only time any of my other toons loot is when its their turn to loot an item that gives AA.
OT though, gear only makes you stronger. I used a set of MC gear at 42 on my SK and it lasted all the way to 60. At 61 I tried to kill an epic mob and got owned. At 62 i put on my new set of MC gear(sk ) and killed two epic mobs soon after. So you don't "need" to be all upgraded to level and run heroic instances, but upgrades do help make it easier. I have only " intentionally" upgraded my sk when i can. If my tank can take the beating, my team lives longer 8) All my other toons gear is either dropped loot or gifts from guildies!

I haven't picked up any MC gear yet, but I haven't had very many problems tanking either...even with my level 14 item at 49.

TBTH - when it comes to gear I actually don't replace - or repair (yes, I wear broken items) - anything till the endgame - sell everything and save all the coinage for buying final adp3s, final adorns and bit'n'pieces - and yes, that means I tend to have the same crappy lvl 20ish gear on all the way AND use app1s... - the only exception is the tank who tends to be in whatever it finds as opposed to buying anything (sell all masters)
The reason I can do this is pretty simple, old worlds are pretty basic and as I run a group of 6, I just cream stuff before they even get a hit in most times. Once at the level cap, RoK quests tend to give some 'ok' gear which is good enough till replacement shard gear can be bought
As a simple example, I just filled out last weekish my third and final team - I have been running the 'basic' TSO dungeons with 5 guys in RoK quested gear with a tank in T1 (since been upgraded - honestly doesn't take long) - so simple scion of ice, bonus shards in ana and cru + simple DF + simple CoTA and HoF - that gets about 4-6ish shards a day depending on the quest - so it is very doable - you just have to pick n choose
...and of course, if you happen to have other fully kitted T2/fabled teams pillaging TSO after you finish playing with your new guys, well then the shards just roll in...so give it a week or two and gear is not a problem as you'll be in T2 in no time at all

I have only picked up a few items for my tank, I never buy anything for the others.
I do try to upgrade my healer's spells though when I can.
I don't even own the TSO expansion yet. :whistling:
I'm right on the verge of dinging 50...should I pick it up soon?

I'm about to ding 70! But i will be buying TSO in the next day or so. Are there any TSO instances ( the ones that scale from 50-80 ) that can be done by an under geared team? IF so, ill make sure I start hitting those up now and get a few shards before I hit 80.
