Dealing with idiots [Archive]

I know its been asked before but how do you put up with people?

The other day I was in stonetalon and I needed to kill one guy for a quest. On my way there someguy gives me the whole "WTF / cool / that's awesome"
speech. He then continues to follow me to the quest mob which I then kill. Upon my killing the mob this guy goes nuts. He starts calling me a hacker and a cheater which I can deal with, he's uninformed. But the thing that got me going was the whole time he kept calling me kid like I was some 14 year old that was cheating. In fact said guy eventually took this whole thing to General chat which sparked a 45 minute debate in which everyone else in the zone was on my side.

Seriously, how do you deal with idiots like this?

I report them for verbal harassment.

Honestly? Encourage them to report you and stfu. If they continue to spam you, report them for verbal harassment and /ignore them.

They typically leave you alone after they get the "talk to the hand" response from the GMs themselves.

GMs are very sympathetic, I have found. Just remember to tell them the name of the char, and the approximate server time that they pst/say/yell/General Chat spammed you those painfully slanderous and hurtful things. ;)

After reading your stance on this issue month or two, I've fully adopted it. I just don't deal with morons anymore. :D

I like it when they call me a chinese farmer because then you report them for prejudice statements. lol

I dont /ignore anyone, I just dont respond.

I get so many tells its not funny and have actually missed real tells from friends alts because I think its another fan/hater/curious person/idiot.

The worst time is people in battlegrounds try talk to me and I'm like DUDE IM BUSY FIGHTING , while they stand their typing tells to me while I either get rolled by a mob or are killing ppl.

Hey, there is rarely a time when I don't have a ticket open. I love talking to GMs. They're so fun.

I just keep adding names and editing the ticket if I have a particularly busy day. ;)

I usually reply in very articulate cohearant well thought out statements.....
carefully pointing out any errors they make or any misconceptions they may suffer from.....

One person the other day said "speak in english that is the land the game comes from"

I asked him where the land of "english" is as I was under the impression that the game was developed in the United States.....

He made some remark about me being a china farmer and put me on ignore.....

I stay off the general channel, it's just full of kids shouting about something. keeping DND up helps out a bit, and I've found when chars follow just asking them not to follow becuase it's annoying also helps. It is difficult. You didn't ask for attention, your out there having fun and other people seem to ruin it.

So far I've found that with my DnD up on the alts I get more of the "Chinese farmer or botter" sort of comments. I'm really just hoping that with all of the other multi-boxers on Mag in a few more lvls people will be a bit more accepting.

If not, I do like the perpetual GM ticket idea.

The advantage of 5-boxing is....

---you can put the entire newbie areas and the Barrens on /ignore as you won't be looking to group with them anyway.

I've put most of the morons in general chat around Silvermoon on /ignore. Amazing how quiet and peaceful it gets. When I am actually curious as to what crap they are spouting I can just peek at one of the clones.

I just tell them to report me if they think i'm doing something wrong. I've never gotten a tell from a GM and i'm a little dissapointed. I mean Where's the balls? if you want to cause so much drama why not type out something that will get me good....

I agree also that I'm getting more attention in the Outlands as well, Lv. 63 atm. But also seems like people are more accepting too, from 1-60, I had alot more "hacker, farmer" and those kind of stuff, but in Outlands, no one said a word like that so far.

Usually people just ask me if I'm gonna sell them, but that's about it, and then ask me to pose for a SS which I find pretty funny at times, follow me for a little while and then leave me alone. I don't mind much, since I just plow through quests so there's nothing they could do to annoy me anyway. I usually don't kill horde around me, because I don't find satisfaction into killing one guy when I'm 5 and also not too bring too much horde attention onto myself, so they usually just follow me around a bit and stare which is hillarious. I guess I'm pretty lucky with idiots so far. :)

I saw the thread about that ban, but don't recall the *exact* reason being given. I theorised that it's because there are often RMT sites in the banners, but that applies even moreso to places like Thott, which is frequently mentioned.

The ban was probably for bogus reasons, but I've been very reluctant to pass on the URL since I read that thread.

In EQ2 I often get a tell along the lines of "/cough Nice Bot"

to which I normally will respond with "/cough Noobs can't tell the difference between Boxing and Botting"

Often after that I will get some sort of apology.
