Been poking around the world in the new NCsoft game Aion.

Pretty good game so far, havent touched my wow accounts in a few weeks now. I've just been solo-playing a few of the different classes.
I'm 100% sure that this will replace wow for me when it is released in the NA/US market.

--Random brain-leak blurps below--

* Graphics are really nice, they are using a modified Crytek engine to run the game. Zones are beautiful & diverse. Characters are modeled VERY well, and have a nice/smooth feel to their movements. i've tried playing alot of the other mmos out there either the character animations bugged me (guild wars) , or the world environment was blah (lotro), or the graphics were just to unimpressive (most all Free2Play MMOs with the exception of Swords of the new world)
* Soundtrack is INCREDIBLE, i paid for the collector edition pre-order, that comes with a CD with the original soundtrack to the game.
* Chain Skills! After completeing a stdard attack, a secondard attack opens up. for example in warcraft if you mage cast fireball, then fireblast would become available. or if you cast frostbolt, then a frost nova with knockback would become available.
To cut down on clutter for the action bars, if you have fireball in slot-2..... after you cast fireball, slot 2 would change into fireblast. so you could just spam 2,2,2,2,2,2 and it would auto complete the chain/combo for you. It will also place a clickable
button for the next available chain in the same general area as some of the ArcHUD/IceHUD warcraft addons place their status bars.
* You gain your wings/flight at a very early level, flying is a very integral part of the game.
* I've played the first 12 or so levels and they go by really quick, without grinding so far. I'm actually worried some of my quests will go grey before i finish them. The quests genres are the usual. Collection, delivery, kill. On collection quests, drop rates are fairly high. I havent complained yet about when a item is going to drop.
* All trainer skills are taught by books, kinda like the warlock pet grimores back in the day.. you can by them ahead of time so that when you level they will be in your inventory and you can right click them when you are of appropriate level to use them.
no more hearthing/flying back to the trainer every level.
* Quest log/tracking system is nice. it will track as many quests that will fit on the right side of the screen. each one tracked has a clickable button for "remove from tracking", or "open quest log entry for this quest" Anytime you pick up a quest item, it will do a small on screen notice of what you picked up, what quest it was for, and how many more you need.
* When you complete a quest it will mark the turn in point on your map so you dont have to go looking it up again. All NPC names, and Zone locations in the quest log/descrption are clickable and will bring up a small history box about them, and if that doesnt help, the history box has a "locate" button you can press to mark a waypoint marker on your map for it.
* Has both the standard map screen, or a diablo][ type transparent overlay map.
* When you move to a new zone, or subzone you can click on a obliesk item to set your "Bind Point", when is where you will hearthstone to, or resurect to when you die. this does cost gold (100g to 300g) but just to give you an idea, by the time i sold all my grey vendor trash at level 9, i have about 9k gold.
* there are flight masters & flight points. also teleporters to main cities are usually bundled with them too.
* vendors have a 1 click "Sell grey item" type button
* you get 1 backpack, but you can pay to have it "expanded" to a larger size
* character classes Scout which later specializes either ranger (hunter) or assassin(rogue, stealth), they have a warrior-type(fury/arms), or templar(paladin-prot), priest type, mage type, sorcerer (sorta like a warlock, because of elemental pet summoning)

there is alot i'm probably forgetting, i'm just typing as its falling out of my brain.

imagine if lineage/eq had the funding/backing/developer man power of blizzard, and using a more cutting edge/modern graphics engine.... and where they would be today.... thats Aion. (except take out the stereotypical asian mmo grindfest mentality)

Anywho i cant wait to try the USA version when it comes out.... i'm currently playing on the china servers right now.

(PS: this game is the sole reason i can justify to have a windows boot partition on my mac, :P :D )

Wow this game looks....pretty damn good compared to what's been coming out IMO. So where might we pick up a copy of this and play on Chinese servers too? It might be time to dust off the ol' Rosetta Stone and brush up on some Chinese! :)

There was a leaked English language pack that i got ahold of and put in the language directory, and it changed 95% of the text to english. fairly well translated.

hard part was setting up the account, i basically used "babblefish" to translate the registration/sign-up page.

i do not have a Chinese equivalent of a SSN#, so i cannot verify as an adult, so i am limited to 6 hours of gameplay per day.

serevers have a free trial period, although i cannot read when the begin and end times are so you may get 2 weeks, or 2 days before the server closes itself to free trials, and you may have to restart on another server if that happens.

Google "Aion Chinese Server English Guide" should bring up pictorial guides of setting up an account, and give you official download links, and also the english patch download mirrors.

I sure hope so! I have been watching this game for awhile now. But I AM a multiboxer and cant see myself playing any MMO that you can't box. ( easily )

There really isnt a quick/easy resource to lookup macro/commands for this game so i'm not sure about the /follow, i'll have to dig around. I have been having so much fun with it exploring, i havent bothered to check.

couple things though, they run the "Gameguard" anti-cheat/hack monitor... it scans memory for certain programs that are loaded and wont let you run the game if it catches stuff, i dont know if it will freak out about
keyclone or innerspace or any other broadcaster software. Also with how good the graphics are, your going to need a kick ass machine to run multiple clients.

if you are going to multibox it, i have a feeling the hardware boxers are the ones that are going to be doing it.

when i get back into town, i'll dig around to see about boxing it.

So I've gotten everything all setup as well....and it's definitely a nice change from WoW. I've been trying to hurry up and RAF up all my classes to 60 before I lose the triple XP and I'm getting burned out. Apparently if you don't pay for Aion then you're limited to 5 [or 6] hours per account....so I went ahead and purchased 20 hours because I'm loving it so much. You have to buy units that are in 2 hour 5 minute increments....kinda weird but, oh well. Well my purchase just cleared and I'm going to go back to playing my level 6 Warrior :)

Fenril - Glad you got it up and running. Yeah, i did have a problem with lag on 1 of the servers i tried. But i think it was because i choose a "Region" that had alot of hops to get to me. So i randomly tried another "Region", this one must be pretty new, because all the servers on that region are named "Server01, Server02, Server 03.....etc etc". Note: servers can only be changed in the game lancher, not the game itself. it is the drop box thats on your left hand-side. Dont ask me what it all says, i just know that it will get you a different region (wild guess that they are like Eastern/Nothern/Western China regions).

Sam D.W. - they have a pretty crazy macro system. you can have more than 1 spell/action per macro and there is a delay macro to put inbetween the casts. Its allowed, unlike in wow. I havent found the /Follow equvielant, but i also cant find a good codex of all the different macro/script commands. The "Attack" button (when targeting a enemy) will run you to the mob and start attacking, BUT when targeting a NPC, the "Attack" button doubles as the newer WoW "Interact with Target" button, and will walk to the NPC and open the dialog box to it. Targeting a Friendly Player, and using the "Attack" button will move you to that friendly player, so you could use that as a follow keybind i guess.

Lyonheart - it is running "game guard" anti hacking/cheating software. its a widely used "warden" like program, but apparently it is easily defeated in some of the googling around of "what is gameguard?" i dont know if they are going to use it for the USA/EU release, but most likely. Just having Innerspace loaded in, but not running. It gets past the game guard check, but the game client locks up. I try it will keyclone, but i cannot get keys to pass "to" or "from" the game client. Looks like this is a hardware boxing game, seems like the game-guard is blocking/protecting the keyboard functions? probably a way around it but it might cause troubles with EULA, terms&conditions, etc.....

Note: servers can only be changed in the game lancher, not the game itself.I believe you meant 'Regions'. I can change servers on my character selection screen.

Regions are in this order off of the launcher:
Central China
North China
South China
East China
East China 2
South West China
North East China
South China 2
And the last one I have no clue

I got that list from here ('http://www.cn-usa.com/?cmd=buy&loc=170404&lan=EN') where you can purchase Chinese Aion time [in 7500 second increments] and I matched up the characters from the list with the site. Myself and another have both used this site to purchase game time and they seem perfectly legit. You can even choose different checkout methods like Google/Amazon/PayPal/etc.

Just having Innerspace loaded in, but not running. It gets past the game guard check, but the game client locks up.That is very weird because after reading your post I looked down at my taskbar icons and InnerSpace has been running all day long...I rarely shut it off. I haven't gotten any funny errors/messages [since AFTER the client was setup properly :)] and I use the regular ol' Right Click -> Run as Administrator on the icon on the desktop. I am running Windows 7 RC1 x64 so that may change things? I have no idea.

Either way. A buddy of mine from WoW had just up and left a few weeks ago and said he was done with WoW. I message him today to tell him about Aion and he tells me he's been playing for the past week. So he moved over to my server and we started fresh on North China - Tiamat. Neither of us seem to have any lag issues and I'm near Chicago and he's in Florida. I just hit level 10...chose my class' path [Templar :)] and didn't get a chance to get my wings yet before I chose to log for the night. I'm not going to play this game nearly as much as WoW seeing as I cannot communicate with 99% of the server population. I'd just like to cruise along and learn the game so when it does hit the US I'll be able to get past all the new people and the starting zones quicker and know which choices to make ahead of time.

So an update on boxing this game. Attempting to play with some options I couldn't read this morning I successfully broke the launcher for the game. :) Lucky for me I made a backup. It will not let you load another launcher after the game is already launched...it gives you a big fat error. So, in the PlayNCLauncher.ini file you can set 'AutoClose=0' and the launcher stays open letting you load as many instances as your computer can handle. I can throw 5 WoWs at my machine and I don't have a problem....while loading the 3rd and 4th instances of Aion...things were getting real slow while loading. Everything seemed fine though on the window I was focused on. Here's a quick screenshot ('http://malice.ws/bin/images/aion/multiple_aion.png') of what I came up with this morning. The window size you see in that screenshot is the size that Aion forces your windows in 'Windowed' mode, at least on my computer. Don't let that screenshot fool you...InnerSpace is running but I'm not using it for running multiple copies of the game. I'm not sure how you'd use InnerSpace with using the Launcher. Anyhoo...that's what I came up with.

Just an update for all of you looking to move to Aion when it comes out. Hardware and software multiboxing WILL be allowed. Posted the GM response I recieved in the MB & MMOs thread ('http://www.dual-boxing.com/forums/index.php?page=Thread&postID=189164&highlight=#post189164').

The unbiased series is great for laughs and he does touch on every aspect of the game, although a bit biased ^_~
I have the game preordered and am totally lookign forward to playing this game.
Although I'm a multiboxer, I plan on playing this game single box style or at least until I try all aspects of it and get used to the gameplay :P

for anybody that has played the game.. are there commands such as /follow or /assist to make multi boxing easier? it would really stink to swap between boxes for just running around.
