Patch 3.2: Call of the Crusade

*source* ('http://blue.mmo-champion.com/15/17345044964-upcoming-jewelcrafting-change.html')

"In the next major content patch we will be removing the prismatic quality of the jewelcrafter-only Dragon’s Eye gems. Like other gems, they will have to match the socket color to receive a socket bonus. When this change occurs, players with qualifying jewelcrafting skill will be provided a yet to be determined amount of Dalaran Jewelecrafter Tokens as compensation."

And then

"Nerfs are rarely (if ever) something that returns positive feedback, but we feel this change is necessary to bring this profession more in-line with the bonuses from the other professions. The stat bonuses are meant to stand on their own, not provide extra socket bonuses or ignore meta-gem requirements. "

Anyway I'll just have to deal with it. Anyone else feeling my pain?

Yeah, I'm with you, but I knew something was coming. JC is just hands down the best right now. Too good.

Sucks, but can't say it's surprising. The actual nerf will end up being pretty small since you'll end up just shuffling things around to slot a few 2-color gems to meet meta reqs. It's not like you'll suddenly stop putting red gems in a +stam socket bonus PvE piece or something.
It will still be the best profession for many / most classes... we can be glad it hasn't gotten Engineer'd :)

I have the newest Newspeak edition if you'd like to borrow it, brother.

Well, it sucks that they're nerfing JC instead of making other prof's more viable. It's already expensive as hell to level any profession, and imo they should be worth a little more than +62 extra stamina or whatever.

I dont mind the nerf as JC was the best profession by a mile. I also dont want them to make professions something that you must have to play the game. I like professons for the occasional gimmick. Make them too powerful and you get cases like in tbc when all dps had to have leatherworking for drums.

Stockpile mats for leveling blacksmithing, when this change goes through, a lot of people may switch, to get the sockets. At least that's the current wisdom on most of the blogs, and on WoW's forum.

There could be some good profits from this, for a little while. You may see gem prices go up a little, too- that everyone was a miner/JCer meant a glut of gems on the market.

Also, jewelry may get very pricey, too.

The other profession the flavor of the month crowd is talking about is tailoring.

I don't mind the nerf, JC will still be rather well off after the change. I have no intention of changing to another prof for my mage. Just because the gems are no longer prismatic doesn't mean that you can't use them in any slot like you can now; just means that you may not get the added socket bonus. I expect to have to juggle a couple gems around after the change, but I suspect I will have roughly the same stats as I have now.

The bigger point to take away from this is to stash up on lower metals now to flood the market when the change hits. Might as well make money off the other people that want switch over but don't want to farm it themselves.

No... NO ... NOOOOOOOOOO.

Professions should not be a gimmick. WoW makes a mockery of professions and it drives me nuts. Professions should be useful. What they did with professions in wrath was the first step in making crafting more useful and yes, a requirement. I see professions being a requirement as a good thing because it is effort being put into a character that gets completely wasted once billy, johny, sally and mikey, all have the same patterns as you. Why level up a profession when theirs 8 people within shouting distance that can do it for you. It should be advantageous for you to take up a profession, more than just making a few items for cheaper than market value, especially in a game where funds are so ridiculously easy to come by.

JC made sense with the prismatic gems. You are a master of gems, why can't you activate a stupid meta slot or gem bonus for an item easier than some joe that doesn't have a clue what they are?

I'd call it a fix. The stat bonus you get from using DE's instead of rare gems was on-par with the other stat bonuses from other professions. The ability to stick "red" prismatics like spellpower into a blue socket to get the socket bonus AND meet meta requirements made JC easily twice as good as other professions.

What they should do instead is fix professions to where you can mix and match them, like a bonus for doing lets say JC and LW or JC and BS, that way people have to make an actual choice of what benefits what. Just something to think about. Make them more interesting than what they are now. Make some recepies that require you to have LW and JC at a certain level and if you can get the stuff to make it, well you get a point to both of them or if you are at max level you can get like the perfect gem but it goes towards what you made. Or something. As of now I do have JC on one of my guys but I don't see it as the must have profession to min/max stuff which most take it as such. I don't want to have to have a profession if I don't want to have it to make me a better player I should not need to have what everyone else has for a profession.

It's also tough for people who have rare recipes. My mage has been enchanting+tailoring since classic, with some of the AQ20 enchants, bottomless bag, belt/boots of blasting, mongoose, crusader, etcetcetc. Having people bug you to reroll professions every time one is the "best" for PvE end-game raiding sucks. Feeling bad for not doing it while being in a progression guild is even worse. I really dislike these profession-only bonuses, they've taken the fun out of it for me.
