View Full Version : NOT disbanding group on disconnect?

This might be more a question for the tech support forums, but maybe someone here has run across it. Some time ago, if all my toons disconnected (at least once a session; thanks Seattle Comcast), I'd log them back in and they'd still be in group. At some point, they started logging back in to find the group disbanded. If it happens while in an instance, all five toons get the message, "you are not in this group's instance; stand by for ghetto hearth in 30 ..." I don't lose my instance, but I do have to either submit to the hearth, or run back to the entrance, step out, and then zone back in.

Is there a setting somewhere, "drop group on disconnect" that I don't know about? Is there any way to keep my group after a disconnect, as a general rule?

Thanks. :)

Just regroup real quick use a group invite macro spam it and accept.

i think this is the normal behavior indeed.
- if you /logout on purpose then you will always leave the group
- if you are disconnected then you should remain in the group. It is possible however, if it is a server restart for example, than when you log back in, that all your toons will be in their own instance, at the entrance.
In that case you indeed need to run out, and reenter the instance, which will automatically make you join the leader's instance.. or something.

if just one of your toons disconnects during an instance and you log back in, it should still be in the group, and in the right instance, and at the point where you where in the instance.

It never has before. Maybe the way my ISP is dumping me is suggesting the wrong thing to WoW and it's assuming I meant to do it. Then again, I get the "you have been disconnected"message when I'm dumped back to the login screen, so it's halfway there. Guess I'll just put up with it. Thanks for the responses.

since this last patch (apx 2 days) i've had the server or realm crash at least once a night and I can't relogon immediately, I have to wait 5-10 minutes.
I agree with the others, just spam your invite button.

I have run across this pretty much as the OP describes. My ISP on rare occasions may decide that I need to stop playing for 5-10 minutes. When I log back in while in an instance, I'm ungrouped. It's usually after I group back up (yes, same leader) that I get the "get out or I'll make you" message. I still have to run out to prevent being hearthed. I can run right back in and everything is fine (no reset or anything), but still being forced to run out is annoying.

It's so rare that I really haven't been able to try any fixes yet, or really bothered looking for a solution. I don't blame Blizz, I blame my ISP.

Sometimes when everyone dc's at the same time the instance "owner" ends up being someone who wasn't the leader. If that happens you need to invite from that character.

Find which character isn't getting the message and invite your leader from it. You can then promote it to leader and it will be able to invite to the team to keep from being booted.

The next time this happens, I'll try to remember to wait and see if someone isn't getting the message. Thanks for the idea.

Yes, whoever left last will be the "leader" when you come back.
And in the case of having been sent back to the entrance, thats the only instance that will have anything cleared in it, if it hasn't all reset (depending on how long you've been gone).

for a few months up until the last patch I'd login and find myself grouped, it was pretty good but stopped happening now

If your group has been saved to an instance (raid, heroics), then logging off alone will not dissolve the group.
You can still manually disband it.

Why dont you make your team a raid prior to entering instance? ... you wont drop group when logging out or disconnecting.

Use jamba, I love it's group invite feature. Makes the whole experience painless.

Yesterday when i was doing MC for my second binding, i disconnected since i pushed my router with my foot ( ;_; ) and when i logged back in, the group was disbanded, shitlaods of mobs on me, and my group invite macro couldn't execute since i was in combat. I wasn't getting ported, so i just kept healing and killing all mobs. When i went out of combat, i got the message that i was getting ported to closest GY, so i hurried using my invite macro. What happens? I was still getting ported, and couldn't do shit about it.

This has only happened to me when I logged out while in a raid.

This has happened to me a few times. The thing to watch out for is who the instance currently belongs to. That person needs to do the inviting. It's not always the person who was leader earlier.

Always, it'll be the person who ISN"T getting ported. When this happens to me, I wait a few seconds, see who isn't getting ported, and have that character invite everyone.

If someone else does the inviting, the game sees it as a group being in an instance that isn't theirs, so you still get ported out.

I've gotten the shaft a few times on this. nothing worse than being at the last boss and have your DSL drop only to loose your whole team and which instance you used to be in. Not so much a problem for a heroic team but if your leveling up some alts it really bites.
